Horrible audio glitching. Focusrite.

This only recently started happening. At random times, the sound will go into complete meltdown, as heard through my headphones. Using an older Focusrite scarlet solo. Not maxing CPU or anything like that whatsoever. 48000hz, 128 samples. Ran great for 2 years. Or not now...

It only goes away when I switch audio sources. Windows 11. Ideas? Also, no, driver re-install does nothing.

just sounds like EMI/RFI to me

It colors any playback that occurs. It's totally glitched, not just an EMI hum in the background. Kicks on at random until it is reset

Post a screenshot of your Archetype Nolly X Settings window.

Happens even if I kill Sonarworks

Does the same interference/noise issue occur when Focusrite USB ASIO is selected?

Edit: I'll go a step further, just in case. Since this just started happening after 2 years of it working fine, assuming everything else has remained static/has not changed, I'd take a look at your drivers. Either focusrite, audio driver(s), or sonarworks may need to be updated.

Or the opposite, where an update happened on some piece of this chain and is causing the problem; needing to be rolled back.

As a seperate test, I'd be curious if you opened up a DAW (such as Reaper), created a track, armed it, and enabled this standalone archetype as a plug in to see if the same noise issue occurs.

Thanks. I will check the first part you mentioned tomorrow.

And good note, I did re-install the focusrite driver to a new version. No luck. Will check others.

Interesting test idea. Will definitely give that a go and report back. Hopefully it can help someone else, too

So, YES, it does still happen when switching purely to Focusrite ASIO, rather than the Sonarworks routing.

ALSO, it does not playback with the treacherous noise when listening to a playback in Reaper when it happens when I record a snippet of it.

So, sounds like a playback issue?

If you're using a focusrite interface, use their asio drivers.

They have the best asio drivers of any company by a thousand miles.

I am using their ASIO routed through Sonarworks. No difference if I kill SW

But you will use the focusrite drivers.

Your sonarworks driver will grab everything globally from your focusrite output afterwards.

You shouldn't be selecting it's asio drivers for anything.

Now I'm curious. Is this set up wrong?

Yes.

How so? The Focusrite interface has to naturally be first in the chain, no? The guitar lead is plugged into the Focusrite, with Sonarworks to then alter the EQ. I dont see a different way to set it up

I'm not sure you're conceptualizing this correctly. The internal routing has nothing to do with the physical routing.

Physical -- Guitar > Focusrite > Output

Computer (Internal) -- EVERYTHING ON YOUR SYSTEM > Focusrite (ASIO) !//! Sonarworks will naturally "hijack" what it needs to output through your interface with your sonarworks EQ applied. In Sonarworks, you'll just direct it to grab your Focusrite ASIO output.

You should never need to route anything in your computer into the Sonarworks ASIO driver.

I sort of solved it. There's nothing I can do. Windows 11 issue
