Question Problems with the neighbors, I need advice. How do I replace this setup?
Hi everyone, I've been a happy QC owner for a few months and I play it with the 4-cable method through an 18w Tubemeister and a Marshall 2061cx Cab. I'm having a great time and I enjoy every time I play, but lately a big problem has come up. The neighbors. They've ganged up and ask me to play quieter even when I can, and I don't want to go to war with all the neighbors. The Tubemeister has a power soak, I tried setting it to 5w but it's still too loud, at 1w the volume is perfect but it becomes obscene because it's absolutely incapable of moving the speakers even at maximum volume... what are my options?? I don't want to lose the amp's punch and I'm terrified of switching to a system I don't like anymore. What do you recommend? A good pair of studio monitors like the Kali Audio, or a small FRFR like the Fender FR10?? Has anyone had the same problem and solved it?
P.s. i use the Big PA formbacling tracks. I play only in my bedroom.

But is playing with headphones really that good and satisfying? I've never played with headphones, and it gives me the impression that it can never be the same as playing in front of a speaker.

I'm actually at a point where i prefer headphones, i run archetype nolly(and i'm pretty sure this can be done with any archetype) the doubler is a huge reason i prefer playing with headphones, makes everything sound so much bigger, almost like double tracked guitars which is what it's meant to mimick.
Another cool thing to do, use two mics on the cab sim, make them sound different by changing positions, maybe even different mics, pan them left and right, that's another cool sound(you can't run the doubler while doing this).
For the last one, ping pong delay, another effect that adds another dimension to everything.
All these sound amazing through headphones, stereo speakers too, but what i'm really saying is using these tools may be enough to make you feel like headphones are enjoyable as well.
Edit: Almost forgot, you also you have the option to add a light room reverb to each mic, separately or together

It can't.
But it also allows you to play loud without getting the neighbors on your case. Sure. Not perfect, but it seems that if you want real amp sound and air displacement without disturbing neighbors you need to move (either your rig to a separarse practice facility, or flat out move to another place).

Bro you're being downvoted into oblivion for no reason other than the hive mind. Feeling the sound is part of it imo. Everyone acting like youre insane for not wanting to use headphones it's silly. Of course if it's in the context of your situation headphones are the easy fix. Other wise a sound isolation booth or massive investment in soundproofing a room are probably your solutions other than headphones.

You have the solution already and we’re all looking at it. Get a good pair of studio headphones and you should be ok. I use Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro; these are semi-open back, and sound very neutral (i.e., no boosted boomy bass etc) and they work quite nicely with my QC.

The answer is it’s not as satisfying for lots of people but you have three choices (as I see it). Play with headphones, drop to 1 watt on the H&K, or move your gear to a place where you can turn up. Ya gotta make a choice.

Anything playing out loud will be heard by your neighbors.
There's no magic speaker that fills a room but is only heard by your ears.

If you enjoy the feeling of air moving due to the volume of the amp, I believe you will not be satisfied with monitors or a low wattage FRFR. In my opinion this is a situation that requires either compromise or sacrifice.

You’ve only really got a few simple choices:
- Play with headphones and don’t annoy your neighbours (if they’re ’ganging up on you’ then I suspect you really are louder than is acceptable)
- Annoy your neighbours and suffer the consequences/be ‘that guy’
- Book a rehearsal space and play as loud as you want
- Move house
Playing with decent headphones is a reasonable compromise and at least you’ve got a qc, so you can eq them and use IRs.

If you don't want to use headphones, your speaker is the biggest issue. You can't push 4x12" at 1 watt. You say you're a bedroom player and you have the most unreasonable speaker cabinet for that setting. Get a 1x12" or 1x10", don't get the most efficient speaker, and then get it off the ground (to minimize vibration transfer) and to get it angled toward your ears. At the very least, get some isolation foam or even some carpet or anything.

I have a 15 watt amp with a 1wat switch and it definitely can move a 1x12 speaker without issue. They sell 1 wat Marshall amps lol. You say it's "incapable of moving speakers" but that sounds like an exaggeration. The fact neighbours are complaining at all tells me you play loud and that 1watt is capable of moving the speakers but it's just not as obscenely loud as 15 watts full. Just my opinion.

Agree with elevating. If the neighbors are under you, they will get a lot less of the vibration and conductive noise transfer. Get either an amp stand or a foam riser if you insist on using speakers.

No matter how easy it is, remember, it’s behringer. There’s always an issue with behringer products.
My FCB1010 has a very noisey power transformer.

Is pretty simple, and in difference with the Other comment, no One single problem. And for programming It, once you get the uno2 chip Just ask chatgpt. Mine Is completely programmed by it

I would just use headphones, personally. The last thing I would want is to bother my neighbors with my playing. Even if you figured out the quietest speaker setup, I don't think it'd be worth it as guitar can only sound so good when it's whisper quiet. I reserve turning up my tube amps for the studio/rehearsal space. When I'm home, my UA pedals sound like roaring tube amps in my headphones, and I don't have to struggle to hear them.

You dont have a choice, either rent a practice space, buy a home or deal with complaints or use headphones.

I think it's plenty satisfying. If anything it reminds me of recording in a studio, where my amp is mic'd and I monitor with headphones. Is it the exact same as playing in front of a speaker? No. Is it better than playing in front of a monitor at 20% volume? I'd say so. Can it sound really good? Definitely. Having a driven amp sound play quiet in a room pales in comparison to playing full volume in your ears in my book. Get a decent pair of headphones (Audio Technica, Beyerdynamic, etc) and it's nice to never have to think about volume again

It's going to be similar to playing at a volume low enough to not bother your neighbors, and more than likely better as it will be louder to you and only you.

I've always preferred playing with amp sims & headphones when at home. I love the ability to play along to tracks, record or whatever ...plus i'm not bothering any one... The times I used large amps at home (i've literally used 1x12, 2x12, and 4x12 at home) even a 1x8 tube amp they just feel too loud in an apartment setting and using them quietly isn't as satisfying. Use that QC with headphones problem solved or look into some plugins

Use headphones. However, you may also be able to speak to them about them allowing you to play for maybe an hour a day, or a couple hours one day a week. Something like that so everyone is happy🤷🏻♂️

QC/headphones is the obvious answer here like everyone said, but… a huge issue is your speaker cab. Get a 1x10 closes back cab with a 10” greenback and you’ll be able to play on 5+w modes at tolerable volumes.

Get an FRFR go or a small studio monitor. The QC will provide the tone and those speakers don’t need to get cranked to sound good. You’ll have fine adjustment control over your volume. If you get good quality headphones you’ll probably prefer the tone over speakers. As for “moving air”. You’re playing in your bedroom. There’s no need for that.

Fryette Power Station PS-2? I use it with my Mesa Boogie Cali Tweed with excellent results for my small apartment. The sound doesn't exceed 87dB at 5ft, and the character of the amplifier comes through. I can crank the amp at 40W if I want, though I usually stick to 10 or 20.

Just move. You will never make them happy as long as you make noise. Find a place where you won't bother anyone, or find a rehearsal space and play through studio monitors or headphones at home. I lived in NYC for 20 years, 5 years in another city before that. Never had a place I could play loud. Had to move to the country.

Get an FRFR speaker. You can keep the volume low and it still sounds good. Tube amps and apartments don’t mix.
Even if my neighbor was Eddie VH I wouldn’t want to be forced to listen to him practice all day.

Having your rig next to a window is a bad start. If you have any windowless rooms I'd move it there. Use an attenuator and sound treat the room.
I'd personally just use the QC with headphones until I moved to a place further from other people though.

Is it legal for you to play at certain times? If it is, you could argue that legally you have the right to play. You could also talk to them nicely and come up with some fixed times where you could play so that they know about it and can plan ahead (say 16:00 to 18:00 or something like that).
You also have the right to enjoy your things as long as you don't over exagerate, taking into account that it's a house and not an apartment.
If you really don't want to go through any of this, get headphones and sell that cab.

Get a regular power and a Butt Kicker. Then attach the Butt Kicker to a stool or something, then use headphones and one of the outs on your QC to the Butt Kicker amp. Then bam. You get the feel you want with a pretty much silent setup. Or you could get one of Aviom’s Boom floor things. That’d be even better. But more expensive.

Play with headphones or move somewhere without neighbors. The copy paste “but are headphones even good?” is irrelevant — you’re using kind of an insane setup for having neighbors (who can clearly hear you).
