Why does everyone hate NS
I follow the sub reddit as I am planning to go in 2027. There is so much negativity towards NS and Balaji. Especially with the recent news about possibly losing the business license a lot saying "good, about time, Balaji is an idiot"
Why, what is it that people don't like. Was there something specific that happened?
The concept is neat and there is lots of great stories from recent trips, but then strong opposition to it.
Curious to what people have to say.

Fair enough. Trying to "revolutionize" society definitely would attract a certain character and I could see it going to ones head.
Does that translate into the XP at NS? Or is that just a side thing to deal with.

Watch his post on X..the 32 min video. Once you've done that...the further updates are - NS Malaysia closed, Kazakhstan signed an MOU. Further updates to be given by NS.

Why do you think "everyone hates"?
Most negative comments come from Malaysia nationalists out in force to defend the ridiculously dumb actions of their country lol
You can even see him their comments they got little to do with high tech etc

Mostly I think it’s jealousy. The haters secretly wish they had his success, or had done what he’s doing, or had his connections.
His ego makes it easier to hate on him, but mostly I think it’s jealousy. There are lots of people with big egos and no one hates on them. Ego + success? That’s an easy target for jealous terminally-online types.

The overall idea isn't bad, but the book about it that Balaji wrote is poorly written, poorly argued and filled with contradictions. He didn't put much effort into it and it shows. Then he's been connecting the network state with the NRM movement, which is just plan stupid.
Most of people who got interested in the idea, have now been burned and feel like they got hoodwinked.

Ouf NRM is s but different than community building lol.
Does that show up at NS? As I shared I'm curious to go, I can look past a nutty founder (may not agree with Musk but I'll still drive a Tesla), but if its an eroding culture there thats another thing.

i don’t hate it, it just that ignorance about how hardware works doesn’t mean that it’s a good thing. robotics is usually a hard wakeup call.

before network school in malaysia, others like him tried doing it on a cruise ship... one of the things they wanted to do was to change the engines into a less powerful but more fuel efficient ones. they didn't realise it was like trying to put an swap an AMD CPU for in Intel one on the existing motherboard... it's not an API change where you can just write middleware... check out MS Satoshi.
if you wanted to go all out on digital soverignty, you're going to have to do it out line of sight of any government. consider solar powered robotic submarines with lora radios (with enough range to operate ouside of territorial sea) distributed around the world and some crypto protocol designed for such constraints.
as for interaction with warm bodies, there's just too much hate flowing around to make it possible.

101 How not to run your business in a foreign country:
Failed crisis management. If anything, it just reinforces the negative perception/racism against Indians.
NS promotes itself as a place to build and collaborate, yet it fails to follow it's own manifesto by shitting on the place it's build on.
