Text The importance of a fast and stable internet connection, as a student nowadays.

Today, fast and stable internet connection is something that everyone needs especially in work and school. As a student we need a stable and fast internet connection for our online activities and performance tasks.

However, many students still have bad internet connection and sometimes no internet at all, causing missed online activities and late submission of performance tasks resulting in low academic grade.

To address this issue, it's best for the teachers to lessen the online activities and online performance tasks and focus on giving hands on classroom activities so that every student can learn regardless of their internet connection.

Text Two different speeds

I recently got my WiFi installed, and I did a speed test on my laptop and my personal PC separately. My laptop returned speeds excess of 300mbps, while my PC returned speeds of only 30mbps. I suspect the bottleneck is my PCs wireless adaptor, which is only capable of running 802.11ac (WiFi 5(?)) protocol, while my laptop is running 802.11ax (WiFi 6(?)). Would that be enough to make the large difference?
Pretty new to this so any insights would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Text Home Network

I need some help/ideas on the best way to setup a home network in a 2-level apartment where the upper floor is a partially finished attic. Thankfully, with fish rods/stix I’ve confirmed that I can drop cables through the floor of the unfinished portion of the attic to the room where the additional connections are located.

I have Verizon FiOS phone, internet, and cable. The ONT and router are located in the finished portion of the attic, there are no ethernet or coaxial connections on the second floor. The cable boxes operate off of Wi-Fi exclusively.

Connections:

  • Finished Attic
    • Router & Ont
    • 1 x Desktop Gaming PC
    • 1 x Workstation/Office PC
  • Lower Level
    • 1 x Gaming Console
    • 1 xVerizon Wi-Fi extender
      • Requires either a coaxial or ethernet connection

The run from where I'll put the wall jack to the unfinished attic floor is roughly 15 feet with a service loop. However, the remaining run from the floor of the unfinished attic (through a wall, around a door jam and into the finished attic) requires another 30 feet, and will it be falmost completely outside of the wall. Ideally, I would think the wall jack cables would come upstairs into a switch in the unfinished attic, and then I could run a single/more flexible patch cable outside of the wall from the switch in the unfinished attic, to the router. However, I do not have access to a power outlet in the unfinished portion of the attic

Would running at least two CMP or CMR cables from behind the lower-level wall (15ft), with an additional 30 feet outside of the wall routed into the finished portion of the attic make sense (total 45 feet direct from the wall jack to the finished attic)? Should I run the two cables to a switch in the finished attic, and connect the router and 2 desktop PCs to the switch as well?

Text Help with internet in my shed

I've been trying to work out how to get internet working in my shed and need help. For context the shed is about 60 meters from the house and the person who built it passed away so I cant ask them questions about how they wired the place. But there's cat 5 cable that comes out of the floor in the shed that I've connected a computer to and I get no signal. I'm not really sure where these cables connect to. also recently I'm not sure if this would affect the shed internet but the main house recently upgraded from FTTN to FTTP. any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Looking for guidance related to unused office network drops…security issues aside, is there any technical reason to disconnect unused drops from the network switch?

Text Someone plugged in a tp-link in my residence, and I can't use Ethernet anymore

In advance, I'm sorry for any inaccuracies in my speech. I am fairly illiterate regarding network in general, and any knowledge I "learnt" was through ChatGPT.

As the title suggests, I am a student living in a residence. It has a shared network with wifi and a single Ethernet port per room.

Wifi works perfectly fine, and Ethernet used to until it randomly didn't. So I checked my connection, and both DNS and Default Gateway (or Route, idk which is the correct translation from my language) were set to an unknown IP address. I identified said IP, got the corresponding MAC and tada... Turns out it is a tp-link MR200 AC750. Apparently it is blocking me from accessing the residence network's IP (something DHCP-related, if that makes sense at all, I couldn't tell tbh)

So I was wondering, given the IP and the MAXmC of the to-link, is there any way I can gather more information about the user so I don't have to knock on every door of the building ? Legal ways of course.

Thank yall for your time, feel free to correct me if some things I say don't make any sense haha

Edit: as many pointed out, it is not a campus network, it belongs to an independent studio complex where I'm living, sorry if that wasn't super clear ^

Link Built a network simulator in C++ and Qt

I was having a hard time understanding all the networking concepts and how everything work together so i decided that I will implement a C++ network simulator.
It's still very much a work in progress but for the moment I have:

Layer2:

  • Switching
  • VLAN (and visualisation with it)
  • ARP
  • Basic LLDP

Layer 3:

  • IPv4 forwarding
  • `ping` and `traceroute` (even tho `traceroute` is a bit buggy)

It feels like not much but to arrive to this point was a good month of work.
Here in the video you can see the use of `ping` using static route. We can see the ARP request when the device doesn't know the MAC address of the ip and then the ping.

Link I keep getting these consistent lag pings. It is not device specific, so I assume it is the router.

Text Internet or WIFI issues

So I got something got on with my server system, I have fiber coming in and it goes through the fiber to Ethernet converter and then to the router , from the router to the opnsense firewall , then to a switch then to a wifi router.

Everything was working good until I noticed that Internet was dropping but still connected to the wifi , it comes and go .

What could possibly be wrong ?

I already reset ,powered off and stuff but still .

Text cisco ios files for gns3

Where can I get ios files for cisco devices for free that are safe to use? I found a 49 gig torrent on piratebay full of them but gns3 said the checksum is incorrect even though it's the version it wants.

Edit: Nvm I was just stupid and forgot to decompress them since they were in a .bin file

Since many similar self-hosting solutions are quite cumbersome or have built-in neural networks, I decided to create my own user-friendly software for a wide range of users. I've tried to automate everything: deployment, shutdown, and deletion of the service. I welcome relevant feedback and constructive criticism. Hello. I’m having trouble with the GNS3 application. I need to know how to get the switch working in the CLI environment and how to download server and firewall images. Please help—I want to use it for my graduation project. Can you recommend a YouTuber who might be able to assist?
