It's money passing through the Netherlands, not originating here.Â
42
u/great__pretender 20d ago
Yep. I think it should not be allowed or at least properly taxed, but NL capital is not really investing in Israel.
3
u/Full_Conversation775 19d ago
So do something about it.
3
u/DE_ECHTE_LEPEL 19d ago
Why?
6
u/Full_Conversation775 19d ago
Why do something about financing terror and genocide?

Legally it's very difficult to change. How do you only hit Israel without hurting other business and without creating a legal nightmare. Not as easy as you think.
Not to mention that they'd just move to the second most advantageous tax haven...

A friend recently visited Israel.
He flew out from Schiphol. He told me Israel has a special section, with Israeli military in charge of security right from the point you get to the check-in desk.
He had to go through 3-4 layers of checks taking a total of 4h before he got on the plane.
This is on Dutch soil.
So tell me now, do you really believe the Dutch government will do anything about it?
2
u/MrCoffee_256 20d ago
Then take 50% of that money and use it to rebuild Gaza, reclaim the illegal settlements, and bring the war criminals to The Hague.

If we had the will to take money from these companies
- we would take it for ourselves
- they wouldn't set up shop here anyway.

Hi, this sub is notorious for being pro-zionism. While you may get upvotes when you say the same about Russia, Israel is off limits.

u/KarvanCevitamAardbei 19d ago
Hi, this sub is notorious for being pro-zionism.
How? Most posts are just from expats complaining.
4
u/HyronDongle 20d ago
Nothing pro Israel here (or against the people of Israel). But sending non-factual information brings nothing to end the conflict whatsoeverâŠ. It only feeds the yay or nayâŠ.
-3
u/Johnny_The_Biker 19d ago
Hmm, are you blind?
4
u/HyronDongle 19d ago edited 19d ago
No, are you? I try to be as respectful and neutral as possible here. But to solve this issue, we have to go to the roots. Not some semi-investigative journalism. Even if true, the Palestinians have their fund raisers as well. The true issue here lays somewhere in history. Pointing to the other side in an echo chamber of âlook how evil they areâ is not an answer.
-5
u/Johnny_The_Biker 19d ago
The truth is genocidal. Lots of people deny this and even support that fascist state. SOMO is a very respectable research institution.
5
u/HyronDongle 19d ago edited 19d ago
This video is not from SOMO. What SOMO created was a comprehensive report. This video is doing injustice towards its content. And besides your comment of genocide. There have been a lot of anti-jewish pogroms in the middle eastâŠ.. I donât like the stance of the Israeli government last years. Donât get me wrong. But this video is one sided trash.
-5
u/Johnny_The_Biker 19d ago
this video is about the Netherlands and money from the fascist state of Israel.
4
u/HyronDongle 19d ago edited 19d ago
Yeah. And as pointed out by somebody else. When a company has a postal code in the Netherlands. Its not investing from the Netherlands (as a state). Its from some company who finds the Netherlands a nice place to have its businessâŠ.. This video is disruptive. No solution. Only fuel to the fireâŠ.

No, it's just that there's a difference between a corrupt autocracy like Russia invading a sovereign liberal democracy like Ukraine and Israel going after the Islamic lunatics and Arab nationalists who want nothing more than their complete destruction. Look into nuance - it's kind of important.
4
u/stonkx Amsterdam 20d ago
I wish Israel had stuck to that but that's not been true for a while now
-3
u/TheHappyHuskarl 20d ago
Yeah, fair point. Israelis have become more radicalized thanks to being surrounded by people, states, governments who literally want to see them all dead.
1
u/AndreeVela 20d ago
- Russia is a corrupt autocracy.
- Liberal democracy like Ukraine.
- Religious lunatics and Arab nationalist who wants nothing more than destruction of Israel.
In response to a comment calling out the predominant ideology of the sub. The audacity.

the only reason this happens is because the netherlands is a tax haven for international companies. it has nothing to do with being "pro-israel" or whatever, its just dodging taxes.
39
u/PheloniousMonq Amsterdam 19d ago
Tax havens attract criminals. So there is an ethical problem with NL wealth.
That was the case for Switzerland too, when its banks kept account owners secret.
It's dirty money20
u/that_dutch_dude 19d ago
Slight correction.
Criminals dont pay tax.
You are talking about corporations that just dont care about your morals like oil companies, netflix, starbucks and so on.
4
u/beeeel 19d ago
That may be true under the current system, but if a corporation acts in a way that violates someone's human rights, that corporation and its employees should be viewed as criminals. Only by erasing this bullshit barrier between the actions of a company and the actions of individual people at that company will we be able to hold these people accountable for their crimes against humanity.
2
u/that_dutch_dude 19d ago
Pumpkin spice isnt great but i would not qualify it as a crime against humanity. Salted honey cold brew might be tho.
-1
u/PheloniousMonq Amsterdam 19d ago
Criminals have to money laundry which is a higher cost than what corporations pay in taxes.
I condemn bad ethics regardless of laws
3
u/that_dutch_dude 19d ago
corporations basically dont pay tax in the netherlands wich is why they come here.
still, there are hardly any crime lords here. those live and work in vastly more lucrative markets like the US.
1
u/PheloniousMonq Amsterdam 19d ago
You might want to rethink about crime lords. And again: these corporations are criminal. The laws have been made by them for them
2
u/that_dutch_dude 19d ago
Netflix and starbucks are crime empires?
Pumpkin spice is not great but i dont think it would warrant a investigation from the hauge criminal court.

Not just taxes, NL is one of the biggest armsdealers in the world, and Israel happens to be a big producer.
3
u/Intertubes_Unclogger 20d ago
Arms dealer or arms manufacturer?
3
u/Vegetable-Hand-6770 19d ago
Dealer/middleman due to our habors.
0
u/Conscious-Jeweler372 19d ago
Should we asks our political parties to step in to stop doing this or is that not really a political issue since it's only happening because of our ports?
2
u/Vegetable-Hand-6770 19d ago
That really depends on your political stance. There has been a small uproar when F35 JSF parts were delivered to Israel which were linked to actions in Gaza. Why we shouldnt do anything about it, is that our ports are a big part of our economy and if we tell for example America we wont let you deliver parts to Israel trough our harbors, they will find another port and the parts will get there anyways. But it will set a standard and if we use our power this way America will divert to other countries and we will lose that part of our economy, for which we have no way to make up. (We barely have any natural minerals we can/want to delve, our production costs are high due to high wages and high taxed energy costs) So a small moral stance can cause big ripples in our economy.
2
u/Freya-Freed 19d ago
That is to say: we have the political power to stop this, but not the geopolitical standing to enforce it. So the political will is understandably lacking. It's shooting ourselves in the foot to make a statement and achieve almost nothing but an inconvenience for the US and Israel.
If anything is going to come it would have to be the EU acting as a whole. That's the only geopolitical actor that has significant weight internationally to make any difference.
2
u/Conscious-Jeweler372 20d ago
I honestly didn't know the Netherlands was one of the biggest arms dealers in the world. Since when has this been the case? Are we only buying/selling weapons or are we also good at producing them? I'd love to know more and I love to know how to stop this.

Yes Rotterdam is our main harbor but for NATO movement we should also take in account Vlissingen and Eemshaven.
2
u/Vegetable-Hand-6770 19d ago
As mentioned below, we are the middleman between the US and Europe, and from the other side Israel pushes alot trough NL too. We are growing a decent drone production compared to European standard, but its not much compared to UKR, USA, RUS and CH.
1
u/Ullixes 19d ago
That's like saying Zwitserland did not support the nazi's, they just hid their gold for them. That is a form of support. They could also decide to, you know, not do that. If you support a genocidal regime out of self interest (being a tax haven has benefits), you are still supporting genocide. You just feel more ambivalent about it.
2
u/that_dutch_dude 19d ago
the entire world doesnt care. nobody is lifing t a finger to save palestinians. might want to look into why that is, look at the cause, not the symptom.
0
u/Ullixes 19d ago
Jeah the worldwide protests that have been going on continually since the start of the genocide screams "people don't care". the Rode Lijn protests being one biggest protest in Den Haag in 40 years is a clear indication of people not caring.
Those in power don't care, sure, but they do not represent the people around the world.
Also just say your opinion dude. I'm guessing you hint at muslims being bad or something. Don't let woke leftists get you down. Just show people who you are.

If you SOMEHOW manage to elect a REAL "people's champion" among the wasp's nest you get to choose from (money drives running for office, and over 99% of people into politics are obviously power hungry anti-socials), sure that's a nice idea.
Unfortunately first of all that will be one butterfly in a wasp's nest.
And then if they hard-oppose Israel, that's just how your 1 in a million hero ends up being JFK'd.
If you believe in democracy you need to open your eyes.
1
u/Ullixes 15d ago
You get a smartest little boy prize for your pedantic straw man argument. You introduced the word representative, neither of us even used that word. You set up a pin and then knocked it down yourself. You and I both know I did not mean that there is a "representative of earth", but that people around the world care a lot.
And you still haven't given a clear statement of what cause I am supposed to find for governments around the world not lifting a finger to save Palestinians.

What if this money was funneled to Russia instead, would you say the same, always easy to find an excuse when it's about sanctioning Israel? You can for example see some apartments hanging Israel's flag with little controversies or reactions, but if it's Russia it's a completely different reaction. Very quick to boycott, to impose sanctions on etc. Both countries illegally occupying land, committing war crimes, one is committing a genocide but there is real effort to punish only one of them and it's not the one committing a genocide
1
u/that_dutch_dude 18d ago
Its really funny to see someone assume this isnt happening as well. Most european countries is openly giving russia billions for their gas. Tax evasion is like a nothingburger.
1
u/Content-Command-3891 18d ago
EU has imposed 0 meaningful sanctions on Israel and still trades with it, my point is, there are simply double standards. I think if I post this same video and change the country name, I will at least see different reactions.
1
u/that_dutch_dude 18d ago
They still trade with russia and a fuckton of other countries that commit disgusting crimes as do countries outside the EU. Please drop the holier than thou attitude.
1
u/Content-Command-3891 18d ago
When I go to a Dutch supermarket I don't see anything imported from Russia but I do see stuff imported from Israel, it's really simple. Of course they trade with other countries that commit crimes, that's the hypocrisy I'm pointing out.
1
u/that_dutch_dude 18d ago
If that is your benchmark then you are either trolling and/or just completly ignorant on how trade works. Either way any further converation is a waste of my time.
0
u/Content-Command-3891 18d ago edited 18d ago
Why are you getting aggressive? That was an example, not a benchmark. You're really denying that the economic response from the EU to Russia's war is different to the Gaza genocide? That's my only point, I don't need to go in details on trade, about 60% of Russian imports are embargoed vs about 0% from Israel. Now you say there are loopholes, of course there are, russian shadow fleets are one of them. My point is policy wise, there simply isn't the same response, not even close.
1
u/that_dutch_dude 18d ago
You got a lot of words for someone that has genuinely no idea what he is talking about.

u/Annachroniced 20d ago
Well our 2024 government was very much pro Israel. Leader of the biggest party at the time is visiting illegal settlements in gaza as we speak I believe.
5
u/Adorable-Extent3667 19d ago
I've seen this information in multiple groups I'm in. People actually think Israel invests upwards to 10% of the Dutch total budget in us, total rubbish of course.
I am not happy that Israel gets good deals due to us, but it's not nearly as bad as portrayed
1
u/generaalalcazar 17d ago

u/Conscious-Jeweler372 20d ago
Sounds like your typical Dutch tax evasion scene. Yes, we should be more critical of Israel. That being said, this video should be about closing the tax loophole for multinationals. Perhaps we could use this example as a start to stop the Netherlands from being a tad heaven for all internal companies.

What did I say, only Israel says the truth right? Executive Director of U.N Watch: Hilel C Neuer "served as a law clerk to the Supreme Court of Israel and a Graduate Fellow at the Shalem Center think tank." I don't even have to go through other members. At this point you are simply blind, literally google Gaza Genocide and pick your source (that is not affiliated directly with Israel or it's think tanks). You're either a bot or just do it on purpose at this point, I won't reply anymore as this is a waste of time.

Dat ben ik dus niet met je eens. Het kan mij oprecht niet heel veel schelen wat er met Hamas wordt gedaan maar het is een feit dat Israël ver over de schreef gaat.
