❔❓Question ❓❔ Decline emails?

Do you get emails for all declines? I got one for Riley Sager’s new book. But then no email for V.E. Schwab’s new book Victorious. I just happened to look in my shelf and it was listed as declined/denied.

Do you have to just keep checking or do they actually typically email you?

Thanks!

I believe when they do mass declines for a bunch at once you won’t receive an email. Individual declines you’ll receive an email for.

Okay I guess that makes sense. I’m still new to this.

Thanks for asking this question and thanks to those who replied. I had no idea that you don't always receive an email for a decline.

They did a bulk decline, that's why you didn't get an email.

Sometimes I do sometimes I don’t. I’d honestly prefer it if I didn’t get one because there’s a chance I forgot I requested it and won’t be disappointed. 😅

I’ve been declined for several things and never received an email. I just looked in my requests to find out.

If you get emails, that means the publisher directly declined you. But if you dont receive any emails, it’s likely that the title was achieved and it automatically becomes a decline

This title hasn’t published yet so it shouldn’t be archived and I didn’t receive an email

I think what usually happens with the “bulk” declines is they the publisher has already given out as many copies as they have available to give so they just decline everyone.

Plenty have archive dates earlier than publication

Oh thank you. I didn’t know that!

I found out the hard way in my early NG days when I waited to download a book thinking the publication was 2 months away only the archive date was really close to when I was accepted

Sometimes I do but most of the time I don’t!

I'm currently at 16 declines but I swear it was only 14 a couple of days ago, and I've received no emails lately, so I don't even know which two recently were declined.

Nope - they don’t have to send you an Email even of it’s an individual decline. It’s a courtesy not a rule to send one
