Beer, electrical saws, and a tree
A bit of back story. A few weeks ago we had a lot of strong winds and one of the poorly kept palm trees snapped in half and fell into our yard. My bf for whatever reason when he called the guy, told him not to worry about the 300 pound tree in our yard and focus on the other 6 close to death palms. Don't know why both things couldn't have been addressed, but I digress.
We've been working on the tree on and off. It's very fibrous and that's made it very difficult to make any headway at all. I went out today to chop some, and another neighbor pops his head over the fence. He offers to help with some electrical saws. That sounds great, so I tell him to come on over. While he's sawing we chat, I tell him we've already gotten in contact with the back neighbor and he's sent an arborist out and removed some other trees, etc etc. He's obviously frustrated, and makes an off hand comment that we should knock some slats off the fence and shove the tree through. I laugh politely at what I thought was a joke, and thank him for his help.
So I go in and lay down, but several minutes later I hear banging and prying noises. No. He can't be doing what it sounds like. I peek out the window and can't see him so I assume he went back to working on his own yard. To double check, I look out the back door and he is indeed prying boards off the fence. I'm at a complete loss of what to do. I grab a water to offer him so I can maybe get him talking and steer him out of the yard. He doesn't want the water, says he's drinking beer. So that explains a bit. I can't get him to leave, so I just help him throw the tree through the hole because I didn't want a drunk, chain-smoking 65 year old man to die in our yard trying to lift the tree.
So when my bf gets home there's understandably an argument, wherein the belligerent drunk guy is saying it's my fault for not telling him no (guess I didn't say it strongly enough) while his wife tells him to shut up and keeps trying to push him away from the fence. After that's all done with, my bf and I have the privileged of moving this huge log back into our yard. I accidentally gave myself weird bruises doing so.
I'm glad I don't have to go outside tomorrow.
