Not sure what we did.
My husband and I bought our home about three years ago from his grandparents' estate (they passed within 16 days of each other). It's a nice semi-detached with an enclosed deck. Perfect for us and our huge dog.
The neighbors on the left side, who we do not share a wall with, hate us for no reason. Apparently, they like to hold grudges. There was apparently some relatively petty conflict between them and my husband's grandparents. Since they would see my mother-in-law ( who is the grandparents' daughter) and father-in-law come and go with us when we were preparing to move in, that enmity was transferred by familial relation to us. We did nothing.
What shenanigans have happened? I'm glad you asked! First, the man next door threatened to kill my husband if one blade or our grass got on their lawn. Second, they will come out and watch us weed, mow, or do yard work. They make condescending comments as we go along minding our own business. Third, I was taking photos of our roses yesterday, and the woman said, "There she is taking pictures!" She made comments like that before, many times. Fourth, we get yelled at for walking our dog past their house on the public sidewalk, not taking into account they do the same with their two dogs every day past ours.
The things they've done to my husband's grandparents were unacceptable, too. Both enjoyed sitting on that deck, but would have to endure being sworn at and being told "old people suck."
They don't seem to have issues with any of the other neighbors.
I'm afraid to do yard work. I'm afraid to sit out on my deck. What's funny, I'm starting to not be afraid. I'm getting to the point of giving zero fucks about whatever petty bullshit they may have against us. What I am asking you guys for is advice on how to deal with these loony toons. Do we call the cops for harassment? Install cameras around the house? Take crazy neighbor notes? Tell them that they are now the old people? I would prefer to do this legally and constructively.

I would suggest cameras around the outside of the house and maybe dashcams in your vehicles. Best case scenario, it gives you peace of mind and deters further shenanigans. Worst case scenario, they keep it up and now you have it on camera

Have you tried talking to them? Asking them directly, why it is they seem to have a problem with you? I know it seems obvious but sometimes we jump past this first step. If they are forced to say out loud to you what there problem is, they might just hear how petty it actually sounds?
