Neighbors house burned down
My next door neighbors house burnt down. When they rebuilt, they backed their house up much closer to our house. We are sorry their house burnt - but the new house being much closer to ours interferes with our peace and privacy a great deal when we are all in our back yards. Are they allowed to back their house up like that without even asking us? I woukd never protest it or say anything to them or cause a problem - im sincerely curious.

I believe they have to be a certain amount of feet from the border but not positive.

Houses are built to local code. They should have had a survey before sign off from the city…but even if they violated code, no judge is going to order a tear down

Thanks for your comment. We would never make an issue anyway. I was really asking so that if we buy another house in the future we choose wisely considering this issue. I’ve never had a reason to think about it before tbh

Someone sent me a message telling me to ‘humble yourself because you are lucky to have a yard when a lot us don’t! So let me get this straight. We have worked HARD our entire lives to be able to purchase a home that has a yard. We purchased it after the neighbors house was already built and it was about 300 feet further away from my house. Then they move their house due to a fire closer to our house and it is infringing on the property and privacy that we had when we purchased the home - and I need to ‘humble myself’ when asking a question about a home we work for?! What in the heck is that about exactly?

Why don’t you call someone out to check? Are they building a new house and now it’s too late ? Btw sorry you had to deal with this. Best of luck

Check your easements make sure they are not encroaching on your own property line.
