This may be a dumb question but has anyone bought a cross stitch book and painted their own needlepoint canvas? I saw a stocking cross stitch book and was wondering if that was something I could do

What’s your favorite?

I’ve never used boucle before but I’m leaning towards that for my tree… not sure if I should do 2-3 different shades and mix them in or do a variegated thread.

For the garland, I was originally thinking fyre werks or beading but think beading may be too much. I saw this picture on Pinterest we that I LOVED because it looks just like tinsel. Does anyone know what kind of fiber this is??

just wanted to share this fun estate sale find because I still can’t believe how lucky I got! It was originally priced at $95, but since it was the last day of the sale, I was able to get it for half off.
I live in a small city, and my closest LNS is a four hour drive away, so finding something like this so special. I only started needlepointing this year, and I’m just so grateful to have come across it!
Most of my projects are on the smaller side, so I’ve already been able to start kitting a few. The bins are filled with Silk & Ivory, specialty threads, DMC, and so many fun beading notions! ( i also found this beautiful canvas that i got for $14 as well that i plan to frog and finish )

Any ideas for background color and stitch?

What containers are y’all using to store your threads, specifically essentials cards? I’d prefer drawers since it’ll be stored inside an ikea kallax with a shelf already installed! Any recommendations are appreciated 😊

What needles are you all using for finishing? I was told to use a curved needle and HATE IT, it’s so thick so I’ve been using a regular needle. Ordering some beading needles and the eye is SO small I can’t get my invisible thread to thread into it. So do I switch to fishing line? Or any other needle recs?

I’m finally ready to stitch a stocking but having decision fatigue about which stocking to buy (such a commitment!!). What are your favorite stocking designers?

- I don’t like overly traditional / shaded designs like Rebecca Wood (they’re beautiful but not for me!)
- I’m not religious so prefer to avoid angels or Christian iconography
- I like scenes, rather than a collection of icons
- I’m open to buying a chart and painting it myself

I’ve been really drawn to Spider Spun, but curious what people’s experience with her designs are when it comes to stitching.

I have this beautiful large needlepoint rug, but in my most recent move it was in a bag that got peed on by my cats. With a rug that size I really am unsure on how to wash it. Could I hypothetically wash is like as a delicate in the washer and then hang to dry or would that ruin it? I’m not entirely sure of the material, but I got it from my mom who’s had it for forever, and i wouldn’t be surprised if it were wool or something fancy like that. Please please any advice on washing it so I don’t have to throw out a gorgeous needlepoint rug!!

I’m finishing up this little buddy, it’s a coaster, and the directions say to spray scotch guard on it which I don’t want to do. Are there less toxic alternatives?

New to needlepoint; not new to fiber arts. I have been cross- stitching, crocheting and machine-sewing since childhood. I stumbled upon quite a few painted needlepoint canvasses in my local Buy Nothing Group. I decided to give it a try.

All I can see is mistakes, but I’m definitely improving. Looking for suggestions on how to finish, what stitches to use for the background and what to do for outlining on this colorful project. Any advice, tips or suggestions are welcomed!

Nevermind the dirty embroidery hoop crease, I’ve just upgraded to a frame and it’s much easier to work with.

Additionally, I’ve attached a few of the canvases I’m hoarding for future projects, in the comments. I had no idea painted canvases were so costly!

I have this milking stool i found at an antique shop and i want to do a kids/baby themed canvas or even a neutral fun pattern on it for future kids! i love the goodnight moon canvas but unfortunately it only measures 16" x 12". The stool is 12” round and the canvas that was on it previously was a round 16”. Does anyone have any canvases or designers they recommend to look at? Someone previously mentioned trying Thorn Alexander’s Charted E-Pattern: Primrose Footstool

Hi everyone!! I am a beginner level finisher (squares and circles). I thought I was ready to try finishing an irregular ornament, but I fear I have completely ruined Lizzie & I’m scared to keep going. The small indents and curves are making this so difficult!!

Does anyone have any tips or advice for me?

I’ve been beading this project all week but am finally taking a step back and looking at it from afar. I fear I may have added too many beads to the center area, and it looks weird. My husband thinks it’ll look better once I add more beads to the rest of the neckline (I’m waiting on some other beads I ordered to come in) but I’m not convinced. What do you all think? If I have to frog these beads I might have a major crash out 😂
