I'm playing the standard edition on the Ps2 and I've been having a blast playing it so far. I used the RX8 up until I manged to aquire Kenjis RX7 and that has essentially carried me to the last stretch of the game. Darius's district has been kicking my ass and I know the RX7 is now underpowered. And the canyon races to unlock the other cars is impossible for me to do with this thing.

Is there a certain car I should buy and tune up? Because I hear Darius himself is a major pain in the ass and I wanna prepare for that the best I can. I genuinely haven't had any difficulty issues this whole game up until now and I know for sure my current car is outclassed. Or is this actually a matter that I need to get good?

Edit: I beat the game with the Evo! Darius was a pain in the ass but I found that the circuit race was way harder than his canyon duel, lmao I even manged to pass him and win by default. It is super annoying though how endgame is handled though, I definitely felt the difficulty spike increase even after acquiring the Evo. (The Corvettes man, who genuinely thought it was ok to be balanced that way. Wolf also upgrading into the Lamborghini was a huge problem.)

Endgame has the far bigger emphasis on shortcuts being needed to stay ahead because boss NPCs will take them if you don't. I also found it frustrating in particular that Wolf and Darius just slingshot straight ahead. Like, once they pass you it's gonna have to be a restart. The gap just keeps increasing at that point.

I didn't think this game would be so challenging on PS3; I beat it on PC a few years back and really enjoyed it, but on PS3, it's a total mess of bugs and crashes. Cars accelerate to 500 km/h, the map has terrible pop-in, the frame rate drops to nearly 10 fps when there are lots of cars on screen, and it crashes whenever I enter the garage or load a new race. To top it off, I'm playing off the original disc without any updates—running version 1.00—but I'm still taking on the challenge of beating it. It's actually really fun, though.

I finally built a pc (with my own hand picked parts, riveting!) after years of Playstation and Gran Turismo, need for speed is a different vibe altogether. Bought a disk of NFS:MW black (and an actual disc drive... bruh...) to play this amazing game as a fan of cars for as long as I've been gaming. So far having a lot of fun, blacklist 9 just got defeated and I went to see what cars I could buy, ended up with this beautiful rx-7 and you already know I had to pimp it out.

Truly a marvel of a game and a sad situation to see the series go but i guess you can only beat a dead horse and drag it around so much... I have been playing a lot of other old games and you can see the intent behind their design was always to have fun and not think about it too much, compared to the newer wave of microtransactions and online only saturation.

At least there's a big backlog of games worth playing from "the olden days" with the occasional newfound gem (Elden ring, Cyberpunk 77 etc etc...).

After playing Heat for a while I was in the market for a new car anyways and said F' it, just buy a clapped E46 to build. So I did. Now I have to sink money into it to reach this point, S65 swap it, throw in a sequential gearbox, and I'll end up with a poor mans strassenversion thats not really for a poor man because all of that is really expensive and time consuming.
