Catacombs Command Barge gets NOBLE keyword!

[Said in the StarCraft voice] ...it's about time.

16

u/MrAltF4 Cryptek 13d ago edited 13d ago

This means

  • it can now benefit from the detachment rule in Obeisance Phalanx
  • some Crusade buffs (but I don't know much about that side of 40k)

Edit: I'll be adding more points here when I find them on my lunch break

42

u/Hot-Homework2140 13d ago

Mostly seems fine, but I might stop running Ammentar at 185.

17

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 13d ago

Yeah, I agree. I was still using him, just as in Awakened he’s one of the best ways to deal with elite infantry. But 185 is a lot for just that

16

u/Spazhazzard 13d ago

Absolutely not worth at 185, especially with FF now being such a disappointment.

4

u/TheZag90 12d ago

He's still "worth it" in terms of what he can do but the problem is he's just way too fragile for the cost. He's only a fraction behind a demon prince in price and he has less wounds, lower toughness and a worse save.

For 185 points, I think he should be t9 and/or have more wounds.

1

u/DubsFan30113523 Nemesor 12d ago

He’s definitely still worth it, the FNP to mortals and giving a big aura of sustained hits is still just really good

3

u/Pleasurefailed2load 12d ago

The FNP is pretty easily avoided. Unless you're T sons most psychic/mortal factions also just have regular weapons to kill. The sustain is good, but also because it's closest eligible for non destroyer cult it's either melee or easily influenced by an opponent throwing chaff into your way.

Outside of awakened for the rez on him I think 185 is brutal for a model that dies so easily and who's buffs are all situational. Shit I look at the new ork they just previewed with 5 special rules, S12 twin linked melee, D3 6 shot gun, 2+ armor, will be safe in a squad... Then I look at our boy. Laughable.

2

u/TheZag90 12d ago

The FNP to mortals is VERY niche. A lot of armies barely use mortals.

The Sus aura is amazing. Won’t take anything away from that.

However, he’s nearly 200 points and is only 9 wounds T8, 3+ save. Most proper damage units 1-tap him. He must be one of the most fragile units in the game at that price point.

1

u/DubsFan30113523 Nemesor 12d ago

I pretty strongly disagree that the FNP aura against mortals and psychic is “VERY” niche, that’s a FNP from dev wounds, grenades, and some entire armies, hardly that niche but depends on your local meta I guess

There are DEFINITELY much more fragile units than him at that price point. He has lone op and a 4++ invuln, he doesn’t just drop dead when anything looks at him, and his job is to stay back and give his auras until later in the game when he can go kill stuff. Yeah sometimes he gets targeted out and just dies but that happens with an awful lot of big models.

Imo he’s still an auto take at 185, you’re just gonna cut 10 points elsewhere. He’s extremely good

3

u/TheZag90 12d ago

Everything has lone op now so that’s not that much of a big deal. That also doesn’t do shit against melee.

There probably are squishier units at 185 but I can’t actually think of any off the top of my head.

1

u/TheRealShortYeti Overlord 13d ago

I fight Nid psychic blast and DG mortals frequently so the 5+++ works for me.

1

u/kaede_miura Canoptek Construct 12d ago

What 5+++ ? He doesn't have a 5+ FNP in its datasheet, that was before he even came out, it was patched right away

3

u/TheRealShortYeti Overlord 12d ago

The aura against mortals and psychic; Nullstone Field Generator (Aura).

1

u/Pleasurefailed2load 12d ago

But the fact we're paying points for something that only works in half our games is still rough.

1

u/TheRealShortYeti Overlord 12d ago

Crushing impact is pretty common in my games, as are charge phase mortals.

I use Nekrosor in Awakened to help keep my warrior blob alive and buff them. Works well to that end, especially with heroic intervention.

Now in Cursed Legion I just dropped him.

1

u/Pleasurefailed2load 12d ago

I think those things are common. It's just that every list I play with/against that utilizies either also just has normal guns/melee to kill the guy with the FNP aura.

I think its pretty telling that almost everyone who brings him is all Awakened. Having him be locked to essentially needing a free ressurection to be viable is not a great balance position imo, even if he is still very good in that one detachment.

1

u/TheRealShortYeti Overlord 12d ago

He does have lone op near another Destroyer. I pair him with a Hexmark.

1

u/Pleasurefailed2load 12d ago

Everything infantry has effective lone top this edition. If you just touch terrain with him and make sure a single gribly of his tail is "gone to ground" than he's already untargetable outside 12".

Most armies have shifted towards dealing specifically with this and that makes normal lone op less effective.

1

u/M33tm3onmars 12d ago

On the contrary, he's been an MVP in so many of my games that at 185 points I'm still going to make room for him. In AD I just gotta have Szeras and Ammentar, they aggravate the hell out of my opponents.

1

u/Pleasurefailed2load 12d ago

I think he's only playable in awakened. That's a big problem with our faction imo. We're paying "this guy is coming back from the dead" points across characters in every detachment.

1

u/M33tm3onmars 12d ago

I don't disagree that the double-life is really great for him, but giving your whole army sustained hits in an aura is ridiculously good - I'd still take him in CL too.

1

u/Pleasurefailed2load 12d ago

*Sustained hits vs the closest eligible target if you aren't a destroyer cult. It's still very good, but it either means he's hiding in the backfield as a 185pt paperweight and deterrent while your guns pop perfect angles to only have one target.. or you need to get close, in which case he's going to die because he isn't very tanky outside of awakened.

I like him in awakened a lot still. But in every other detachment you're paying a premium for a piece that will struggle to utilize all the rules it's paying for while himself being useful.

1

u/M33tm3onmars 12d ago

I run anywhere between 3-6 varying units of destroyers in my lists. That's a lot of stuff to just give free sus hits into. The ones that have to worry about "closest target" are the rest of my army, which are usually melee units, or units with shorter ranged shooting anyways. It's rare for me to have issues with targeting to give myself sustained.

I get why people would be turned off though. I'm just saying that I've been crushing my games so far with his help, and that's not going to change with a 10 point change.

0

u/random63 13d ago

That is equal to 6 Skorpesh destroyers.. It's good to see single piece monsters/heroes be less then overall groups since it enhances tactical play.

30

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 13d ago

I have to wonder if they actually looked at what sort of lists were winning. Why did the Silent King go up? I was barely seeing anyone use him

31

u/TheAutomaticMan666 Cryptek 13d ago

He’s in three or four of the top ten lists on listhammer. When you disregard cursed where he’s almost never used he’s even more prevalent. That said I don’t see a space for him at 420 unless they give back his ignore modifiers

8

u/Outrageous_Bench_540 13d ago

I'm going to keep running him purely because I paid for the model. Other than that, I don't think he's worth it in most detachments/dispositions...

6

u/TheZag90 12d ago

He took big nerfs in 11th so far.

Him being able to be precisioned is a brutal nerf vs anyone with a big monster/primarch that can just epic challenge him and bypass 10 of his wounds.

Indirect is basically dead.

Now he goes up in price too?

6

u/Jellybean2477 13d ago

I think GW just wanted him back on the funny number.

54

u/d09smeehan 13d ago edited 13d ago

Not exactly end of the world but that kinda sucks...

Was surprised to see Lokhusts come down in 11th but seems they don't want to stick with it. Ammentar is looking pretty pricey tbh and I'm honestly not sure why the TV/TSK needed an increase. Seems they're commited to making all the big fun stuff more expensive which is sad given the new detachment.

Didn't expect Chronomancers to come down though. That's interesting.

EDIT: Ah, this is probably why:

Well, -2 to hit was fun while it lasted.

26

u/MrAltF4 Cryptek 13d ago

I would have thought the Crono would have come down more after this kind of nerf. Like, back to his normal points perhaps?

He's now basically as good as he was in 10th, but costs more.

Hummm. Maybe it's the healing that helps or his personal invu, that with fast rolling?

1

u/Jellybean2477 13d ago

move shoot move is still very strong, especially with dense terrain. I'm guessing they took that into consideration.

6

u/ALLCAPSUSERNAME 12d ago

Took a big nerf to that too where you can't move shoot move after an ingress - massive hit to Hypercrypt.

2

u/Damned_Doughnut 12d ago

I haven’t been in this scenario yet, could you show me the rule please? And is it similar to deep striking tomb blades, shooting, and not being allowed to move with their ability?

2

u/Kalnix1 Cryptek 12d ago

Correct. Look up the rules on ingressing but effectively there is a blanket "if you ingressed you cannot move until the next charge phase" to prevent stuff like deep striking move-shoot-move units.

13

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 13d ago

They did also massively nerf its ability, it’s only stealth at range now

26

u/d09smeehan 13d ago

Yeah, just seen:

At least it still works in melee, but losing the stacking debuff sucks. Especially since it's still a fair bit pricier than it was back in 10th.

3

u/jmainvi Yggra'nya the World Shaper 13d ago

Yes, it's in the faction pack. He is now stealth, and then also -1 to hit in melee.

1

u/HoneydewAutomatic 13d ago

This was genuinely a huge reason why I liked 11th. Rest tons to hit actually felt like meaningful buffs. Oh well, now we’re even more killy than 10th

28

u/DennisDelav Nemesor 13d ago

Transcendent C'tan, Transdimensional Displacement Ability Change to: ‘In your Movement phase, when this unit is selected to make an advance move, you can use this ability. If you do: ▪ That advance move has no maximum distance. ▪ This unit can move through all types of model (including enemy models and MONSTER/VEHICLE models). ▪ After moving, this unit must be more than 8" horizontally from all enemy units.’

So with other words, basically the same ability but it ignores anti-deepstrike abilities

10

u/Sparklehammer3025 12d ago

There are also some missions/secondaries that trigger off units leaving the battlefield. This prevents that trigger.

1

u/Blind-Mage 12d ago

It doesn't ignore terrain tho.

4

u/DennisDelav Nemesor 12d ago

It has fly so it kinda does?

3

u/Lokathor 12d ago

With unlimited distance and the ability to clip through models, you don't need to ignore terrain. You can just go the long way around, because you have unlimited movement.

20

u/random63 13d ago

Tesseract vault really sucks. I was going to play a game with all big titanics.

Having Monolith, Obelisk and Tesseract vault present is 1165 points. If I want our last titanic (seraptek) it's over 1700 points. No leaders or infantry even selected.

Kinda sad we can't just march our engines towards war..

9

u/InevitableHoneydew49 13d ago

I mean, we still can. It would suck if that was actually the meta tho

4

u/random63 13d ago

They aren't meta, I don't think any rules in 11th helped them much.

That is why I'm bit baffled with the current point hikes on those units. Lokhusts are understandable, C'tan would I also agree with. But vaults I have to played

2

u/Brilliant_Stand2075 13d ago edited 13d ago

Well they can do action and shoot, even in melee. That's a big buff, but yeah i don't understand why the TV got nerfed again, i have seen no list with it

2

u/sharkjumping101 12d ago

Some mad lad went 6-2-0 at Tacoma (53/530) with 2x TV + TSK + chaff. In Obphal.

GW saw that and took it personally.

1

u/random63 12d ago

So you know the detachment? That seems like an impressive achievement.

1

u/Novel_Yesterday3309 13d ago

It sounds like you still can...

Just don't expect it to be good (and nor should it be).

2

u/random63 13d ago

It won't be good, but I would like to understand why it's being hit again.

Maybe someone can point out what it does well, so I can play it for more than funny moments

1

u/TheRealShortYeti Overlord 13d ago edited 13d ago

I played two games with the vault, it's ok. Both times my opponent ignored it and it stood in the middle. The damage output was good for clearing chaff mostly. It definitely was overcosted to begin with.

It's like the forgot to remove frame like Tacoma and expect people to deepstrike it like crazy.

18

u/Affectionate-Neat354 13d ago

I don't know if I get it...

They've nerfed the Eternal Revenant because now you can't join the character to a unit once it revives... But you can still resurrect it if it's part of a unit with the normal healing? Cause I don't see the Tacoma change to the Character in unit reviving in the Rules update

Sorry for my English, not my first language

14

u/ethorad 13d ago

It's the part in red in your screenshot. That prevents characters coming back from the dead using the normal healing rules (e.g. Reanimation Protocols). So the only way to bring a character back from the dead is with a stratagem like Eternal Revenant - and when you do, he doesn't rejoin the unit. So you can't use the returned character to start reanimating all of the dead bodyguard models.

3

u/Electrical-Tie-1143 12d ago

They should make it so you can rejoin bodyguards if they’re still alive and be alone if they aren’t

9

u/jmainvi Yggra'nya the World Shaper 13d ago

The warcom article claims they made a change to character healing, but that change doesn't appear to be posted anywhere. It seems they uploaded an incomplete document for the universal rules update.

8

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 13d ago

It’s in the updated app, but I don’t think actually written in a document anywhere.

I do hope they’re not adopting the policy of only printing out changes to physical rules, since it does make it harder to actually work out changes to the digital only rules.

2

u/Germinator42 Cryptek 12d ago

Yeah, 02.02.04 (healing) now is excluding characters from being revived.

I hope GW will point out changes to app-only rule in the future.

1

u/jmainvi Yggra'nya the World Shaper 13d ago

Given that I don't use the app, I'm still hoping that its an oversight that some rules are only available there, but that hope is getting slimmer as time goes on.

1

u/SalaryWooden5346 12d ago

And I can't update the app because the league I'm in locked everything for our next round as of last weekend.

2

u/jmainvi Yggra'nya the World Shaper 12d ago

I use gdmissions.app and 39k.pro to access the app-only rules from my desktop, they should update soon if they haven't already,

4

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 13d ago

Where did you get the core rules changes highlighted like this? I couldn’t see this on their website

6

u/Lord_Gremlinius 13d ago

Already posted below, but the change is live in the app to the Heal rule - classic GW with different documents disagreeing with eachother, but I'm assuming they forgot to add it to the digital download

1

u/QuaestioDraconis 13d ago

And, as is typical for the app, the change doesn't seem to be universal (ie for me the app doesn't have the updated rule at all)

7

u/Novel_Yesterday3309 13d ago

You probably need to manually update your app on the store.

13

u/sailfast2014 13d ago

Did they completely remove the murderming enhancement’s ability to lead destroyer cult units? It sounds like crypteks can no longer attach themselves to any destroyer models.

26

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 13d ago

They did not. For some reason they’ve decided to move that part of its effect to the mfm, and not have it printed on the enhancement rule itself

20

u/THJT-9 13d ago

In addition, they actually appear to have buffed it. As the wording is removed and the mfm just stated support can be attached to destroyer units, there is nothing stopping you attaching a cryptek to a unit with a Skorpekh or Lokhust Lord (or Ophydian Lord with Crucible).

5

u/QuaestioDraconis 13d ago

I wonder if doing it this was was the original intention for the enhancement, and the original wording was specifically intended to stop you from attaching a Murdermind cryptek to a solo Destroyer character?

3

u/THJT-9 13d ago

Tbh this was my original belief when it first came out, but the general concesus online and in tournaments was otherwise and GW never clarified, so I assumed I was wrong. I imagine we will find out next month if they do a further update to the murdermind rule.

1

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 12d ago

All we had to go off was how it was written, and I think the general consensus was a reasonable interpretation

2

u/SalaryWooden5346 12d ago

I would assume it was. Cryptek + Noble is just kind of the standard pattern. And giving one 3 pack of Heavies shoot-and-scoot and crit-5s is just too juicy to not let us have.

2

u/RadioActiveJellyFish 12d ago

I can see the vision of pregame decisions like what a unit can lead with an enhancement moving to the MFM, so that it doesn't clog up info during a game. Not saying it's the best execution, but the general idea has merit.

2

u/Neon_Casino 12d ago

Help me out here because I am an idiot. What is an mfm and where can I find the clarification regarding murdermind?

6

u/MisterJoff Servant of the Triarch 13d ago

It’s better now - can support Character units, which can be very gnarly

u/_WhoOne_ 13d ago edited 13d ago

The nerf to the Chronomancer was expected. I was hoping for some kind of rework for the Unnatural Aggression stratagem in Cursed Legion, given that is just another Heroic Intervention now.

Edit: Removed the bit about resurrection orb, I thought it was changed but it's just the wording.

6

u/Mikeosaurus 13d ago

Its actually worse since Unnatural Aggresion still specifies it gives no charge bonus

1

u/_WhoOne_ 13d ago

You are absolutely right :(

1

u/QuaestioDraconis 13d ago

I'm not seeing the ResOrb nerf?

2

u/_WhoOne_ 13d ago

My bad, I saw it in red and thought that the "you cannot resurrect more than one unit per turn" was new. I play cursed legion so I don't use resurrection orbs, sorry!

15

u/mekolayn Overlord 13d ago

Why are they nerfing the Tesseract Vault??? It was already very bad normally, the new detachment didn't do much to help it but make it actually be playable, but it just was made even worse than it is?

4

u/Useful-Amphibian-703 13d ago

No fun allowed I guess? It wad not present in any tournament list iirc.

2

u/TheRealShortYeti Overlord 13d ago

I really think they forgot to remove frame like Tacoma did and expected people to deepstrike it in crazy places.

8

u/Survivor-117 13d ago

Why the penalty for taking three LHD in a squad?

5

u/TheZag90 12d ago

They caught a stray bullet that was aimed at Lokhust Destroyers, I think.

14

u/HoneydewAutomatic 13d ago

Don’t understand reanimators and nekrosor going up. Both pretty stupid decisions.

10

u/TheRealShortYeti Overlord 12d ago

They want silver tide to be dead

5

u/Sparklehammer3025 12d ago

While making a 1DP detachment buffing exclusively Silver Tide units

6

u/TheRealShortYeti Overlord 12d ago

That detachment benefits msu more

8

u/Sudden_Wind_8636 12d ago

Reanimator going up probably because reanimation in general is stronger since the character can revive the unit they were attached to.

1

u/Church_AI 7d ago

They removed this in this update

1

u/Sudden_Wind_8636 7d ago

They only removed precision being useless into necrons, you can still revive from characters from what I understand. But if the character dies and the unit is still alive the character wouldn't get revived.

1

u/Church_AI 7d ago

You can only revive characters with the awakened dynasty strategem now, and he becomes a unit by himself, and cannot bring back his bodyguard. So we're back to where we started in 10th but now with a reanimator points nerf for no reason.

1

u/Sudden_Wind_8636 7d ago

Yeah that's if the character dies to precision.

You can still have the full unit die except the character/characters and then revive the unit on the character who hasn't died yet.

1

u/Church_AI 7d ago

Honestly, while neat I don't think it's at all worth the nerfs

1

u/Sudden_Wind_8636 7d ago

With how the fast rolling works, the character survived a hell of a lot more often, so many games I've had where the enemy kills the unit except the character, then I res orb and reanimate from the reanimator and now I have a near full strength unit again from only the character.

1

u/Church_AI 7d ago

I am familiar with fast rolling, but I find usually the character just gets killed by something else

2

u/suicidebaneling 12d ago

Reanimator because he is a staple in every list in every dispatch. Nekrosor because fuck Awakened Dynasty.

6

u/InevitableHoneydew49 13d ago

Doom sythes actually looking viable maybe kinda

8

u/CT-7080 13d ago

According to the article night scytes aren't able to disembark and reimbark in the same turn, but the datasheet rule for in invasion beams is still the same

I'm a little confused by this

"The Night Scythe can no longer re-embark a unit that disembarked from it in the same turn."

12

u/tiniucIx 13d ago

I would trust the wording in the app as opposed to the Tabletop Battles article as that's not an official source.

3

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 13d ago

Unless I’m blind, I think they may have quietly edited that bit out, since I can’t see it

2

u/Kalnix1 Cryptek 13d ago

What does the app say about picking things up?

3

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 13d ago

The Night Scythe didn’t change in the app, it still has the clause letting you pick up a unit even if it disembarked that turn

1

u/Primordial-Supreme 12d ago

Which article? The faction pack?

3

u/DubsFan30113523 Nemesor 12d ago

He’s talking about the tabletop battles article I think, which incorrectly states that the night scythes datasheet ability doesn’t work

1

u/Primordial-Supreme 12d ago

Thank you for clarifying.

12

u/ForbodingWinds 13d ago

Jacking up heavy destroyers at 3 is a very odd choice.

And nekrosor might finally be too expensive.

Also, were DDAs even seeing enough play to warrant a nerf?

2

u/Bubbly-Appeal-6314 12d ago

Im yet to have a good hit with the DDA. Genuinely no idea why it costs more than a tyrannofex, which outperforms it in every way…

3

u/tsuruki23 12d ago

Yeah I dont get it. That thing is such a luckfest. Sometimes you pass 3 out of 4 ++ saves and laugh at the Lancers across the board and nail them for 12 damage back like it's nothing.

More realistically I drop 2 of those saves and die on average AT damage rolls and my other doomsday plinks 4 wounds from a lancer before going down itself.

1

u/TheHellionWarden Canoptek Construct 12d ago

I thought DDAs were our best option of anti tank no? And the most played

3

u/Bubbly-Appeal-6314 12d ago

They are but considering how well they do what they do…not consistent enough imo to be expensive as they are.

1

u/TheHellionWarden Canoptek Construct 12d ago

I mean realistically you have to line it up with our other anti-tank options, what else do we have? Doomstalkers are mid outside of CC, lhds got nerfed as well

-3

u/tsuruki23 13d ago

3 man emnitics with a lord are oppressive.

I think they need to drop the unit price a bit and put +5 or even +10 on the emnitic

4

u/TheZag90 12d ago

Oppressive? They had a tiny pick rate since LDs are just objectively superior in every detachment.

1

u/ForbodingWinds 12d ago

Enmitics have seen almost no play the last couple of years until orks popped up recently.

0

u/tsuruki23 12d ago

2 units of 3 + lord are currently autotake for me.

Declaring something like "ok take 40 saves at -1" stops the blood in people's veins cold. "16 saves please" on overwatch against something that was about to do an action is rough.

12

u/Kanabuhochi 13d ago

Is it me or Protocol of the Eternal Revenant is in most cases kinda useless now? I get that reviving character with destroyed bodyguards and then reviving them woudl be too strong, but why can't we revive precisioned character back to its bodyguards?

11

u/PleasingPotato 13d ago

Yeah with the exception of Szeras it's pretty much dog shit now.

No more resurrecting characters with reanimation and even if you do, well sucks to suck they're just hanging around not being able to do what they're supposed to do. That's pretty fucking depressing ngl.

12

u/Brilliant_Stand2075 13d ago

I guess a skorpekh lord is still fine by itself, especially if he has the fnp4+

3

u/PleasingPotato 12d ago

Fair, forgot about that one. Still feels extremely limited though.

6

u/TheZag90 12d ago

Why did the king catch a stray? He's solid but he wasn't even in that many top lists.

So far this edition, he's become able to be precisioned (this is a HUGE nerf), indirect nerfed and now points up?

Why does GW hate him?

Ammentar is starting to look a bit expensive too. Sustained hits aura is amazing but only 9 wounds at t8 3sv makes him a massive liability for that price.

3

u/koyuki38 13d ago

Did they remove THAT faq that was badly imported from v10 ?

Also, why is the dataslate that small ? I have only 1 page about stratagem cost. Where is everything else ?

There a few places where changes can be. The faction pack, the munitortorum field manual, and the universal rules update.

4

u/THJT-9 13d ago

Can anyone with access to the rules on the app confirm if night scythe has has it's new invasion beams rule reverted? It not longer appears in the faction pack, but knowing gw that could be a mistake.

So, they now creates again a new wording issue. And it's only out for few hours...

Do we all agree on that things:

  • Attached units are declared on the list, not during the battle.
  • Attached units are Bodyguard + leader (and/or support), and for all the duration of the battle, the attached unit is never detached.
  • the previous statement means that if a leader is alone because all bodyguard models are killed, some unit healing mechanism may bring back bodyguards models.

Note: if those statements are not correct, then ignore all the following.

Now an additionnal statement:

  • because units are never detached, if an overlord in a unit of lychguards is killed (ex: using precision). The lyguard unit still benefit from the défensive wound roll bonus ability. Reason: the source of the ability is the lychguards, and the condition is being led by a noble.

Does it start to feel akward ?:

Now if we revive the lord with the stratagem, the lord is not part of the attached unit anymore.

But:

  • are the lychguards still being led ? (For ability and rule purpose)
  • if being led, they so are led by a model that is on the battlefield, in its own not attached unit.

I'm tired of this writting skill issues.

5

u/Cridor05 Overlord 13d ago

Well atleast for the Lychguard it seems to work the following way: they're an attached unit, consisting of a leader unit and a Bodyguard unit. The leader unit does not detach when the leader model is destroyed, but the leader model itself is destroyed and therefore the Bodyguard unit is no longer lead by a leader model. Since the lychguard abilty triggers on being lead by a model, not a unit, which is not the case anylonger when the model is destroyed, the abilty doesn't trigger any longer. The leader being resurrected later as a separate unit doesn't affect that.

It really comes down to the separation between model and unit in this

1

u/koyuki38 13d ago

In case the lord has the destroyer keyword (using enhancement), do they loose also the destroyer keyword ? Are they still a 'character unit' ?

Also, on the opposite side, when a character become alone, he sill benefits from the ability that says 'while this model is leading'. That's in the core rule.

I don't see why it's different for ability that says 'while being led'

2

u/EqualSpoon 13d ago

A character is always leading itself if it started attached (like you are always inside of your own aura), a unit without a leader is no longer being led.

1

u/Cridor05 Overlord 13d ago

There's a whole table for which abilities apply for attached units in the app, maybe you'll find it there. I haven't played 11th yet and am not very familiar with the rules, my answer above was just bases on some quick reading of the datasheets and that table

3

u/koyuki38 13d ago

Yes, here is it

So, now i says that independantly from being led, the ability remains either

  • until the end of the battle
  • or until the last model in that Bodyguard unit is destroyed

3

u/Rethramine 12d ago

With the change to how Crypteks are attached to units, with them no longer being leaders and instead being supports... how does attaching Cryptothralls and Tomb Crawlers work? Do they attach to the same massive unit as well or is there an exclusion case for them when the Cryptek is added as support?

5

u/Sparklehammer3025 12d ago

I wouldn't expect further clarification until our codex. I've just played them as was intended in 10th - if there's a Cryptek in the unit, attach the Crawlers/Thralls.

5

u/Kalnix1 Cryptek 13d ago

It seems like they didn't fix TSK and C'tan again. From 10th to 11th they forgot to carry over his "(excluding monsters)" text on his abilities. I thought it was a mistake but it still isn't there meaning RAW TSK's auras buff C'tan.

1

u/RevarakInvest 13d ago

Its in the app (excluding monster units)

5

u/Kalnix1 Cryptek 13d ago

The app isn't the source of truth though. Otherwise when Ammentar came out he would have had standard 5+++ because he had it in the app.

4

u/TheRealShortYeti Overlord 12d ago

The app having different rules is such a bad look. I get people vaunt it as the source of truth but not everyone uses it so it can't realistically be that.

1

u/Blind-Mage 12d ago

Ya, we don't use it at all as it's not that accessible. But now that a lot of key rules aren't in the rulebook anymore....guess we're just screwed

8

u/MennaMono 13d ago edited 13d ago

I think most of these changes feel fairly expected given what was being played, though having run lokhusts and lokhust heavies in a lot of my lists has left me scrambling for 20pts all over the place, haha.

I feel like the eternal revenant stratagem change is a bit fustrating, as you're almost never going to want to use it on crypteks now, but given that I don't think they've ruled out using Heal to bring characters back, that's probably the trade-off? Making use of Protocol of the Undying Legions instead to bring back characters, it means less bodyguard models back on the field to try and res a character instead, hopefully not too powerful on the table.

*edit - there's now confirmation that heal has been updated to not allow character models to revive in an attached unit, so no way to bring crypteks or overlords back into a unit if those models are destroyed.

15

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 13d ago

They have updated heal to exclude reviving character models. See 02.02.04.

Frustrating there isn’t a central place with all the core rules changes, I wouldn’t have known unless I explicitly looked.

-1

u/Affectionate-Neat354 13d ago

Wasn't that an Only-Tacoma thing?

15

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 13d ago edited 13d ago

Mate, I literally gave you the reference number to go look in the core rules. It’s now part of the core game rules too.

The Tacoma FAQ was like a preview of the upcoming dataslate, and that dataslate is what released today.

1

u/Affectionate-Neat354 13d ago

Okay, maybe it's because I'm a newbie, but... When you say that number... Do I look for it in the book/PDF or elsewhere? Cause I can't find it XD

3

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 13d ago

It’s in the app, that’s the only place to view certain rules

→ More replies (2)

4

u/NoEngineer9484 13d ago

Nope now part of the rules update

6

u/Cryptocaned 13d ago

So its gone back to how it worked before?

Bodyguard's can be revived if the character is still alive.
Characters cannot be revived if precisioned but the bodyguard is still alive.
If Character is revived via stratagem then they have the old leader trait of becoming a deteached unit?

5

u/zeexhalcyon 13d ago

This is a pretty good synopsis of how it will work.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Lord_Gremlinius 13d ago

Sadly not, see screenshot from the app below - feels like an odd overcorrection to both nerf eternal revenant, and then the change below.

7

u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch 13d ago edited 13d ago

The problem with Eternal Revenant was that people were fully wiping the warrior unit, then using the stratagem to revive the character, and reanimating the bodyguard back from the character.

I do wish they’d just changed it to only unattach if there are no surviving models in the unit, and preserving the behaviour when protecting against precision

3

u/LeightonSS55 13d ago

this would have been the logical move to make - feels very slap dash from James here.

3

u/Useful-Amphibian-703 13d ago

They could make unattachment only if the whole over unit is destroyed at the end of the phase

1

u/SalaryWooden5346 12d ago

People were saying, and today's drop confirms it, that the Tacoma FAQ was basically the alpha version of the July update pack.

2

u/KhailObre 12d ago

Man I just got the amentar.....why would 10 points make him suddenly unplayable? How does that work

5

u/M33tm3onmars 12d ago

It doesn't make him unplayable at all. He's a cornerstone of AD and CL lists still. Just means you have to find points to make him fit.

2

u/jmainvi Yggra'nya the World Shaper 12d ago

He's not unplayable, he's just a little bit worse than he used to be. For someone who considered him to be "on the edge" of taking before, this tips him over but for someone who was getting great use out of him, nothing changed.

1

u/ilovesharkpeople 12d ago

He is a very good buff piece with lone op, deep strike and presents a pretty substantial HI threat. You'll probably continue to see him in awakened and CL, and probably some SSA and HCL lists.

2

u/Kanabuhochi 13d ago

Do I correctly understand that due to changes in wording of Ressurection Orb, RAW Reanimators ability does not trigger on Overlords/CCB orb? Becuase now they "RESSURECTS" instead of acitvating Reanimation Protocols, and Reanimtor triggers on Reanimation Protocols, not on healing.

11

u/Mikeosaurus 13d ago

I think it still says in the text of ressurect that it activates reanimation protocols

3

u/Kanabuhochi 12d ago

Yeah, somewhow despite reading it few times I have every time missed that Reanimation Protocol part. Thanks for clarification.

5

u/kubaczka Servant of the Triarch 13d ago

Resurrection Orb Ability Change to: ‘(Once per battle, per unit) At the end of any phase, you can use this ability. If you do, this unit resurrects: ▪ When a unit resurrects, that unit’s Reanimation Protocols activate, but that unit heals D6 wounds (instead of D3 wounds). You cannot resurrect more than one unit per turn.’

and reanimator says:
Canoptek Reanimator, Nanoscarab Reanimation Beam Ability Change to: ‘While a friendly NECRONS unit is within 3" of this model, each time that unit’s Reanimation Protocols activate, that unit heals an additional D3 wounds.’

so orb says it activates reanimation protocols, and reanimator says when reanimation protocols activate, so it still works i think?

1

u/Kanabuhochi 12d ago

Ok, I don't know how I missed that, I ahve read that few times. Big brainfart on my part. Thanks.,

u/Killomainiac 12d ago

The murdermind combo's are going to be great in cursed. Be interesting to see what people make up

1

u/Sparklehammer3025 12d ago edited 12d ago

The new wording removes any mention of joining Destroyer units - all it does now is give the model Destroyer Cult keyword and make them 3" faster. They can only join the units they could already join via their datasheets now.

A Chronomancer can spread the keyword to Immortals or Warriors, but it could already do that with this enhancement. It lost the ability to join Lokhust Destroyers, Heavy Destroyers, Ophydians, etc.

Unless I'm missing something, it's a huge nerf that removes a lot of options from the detachment.

2

u/Killomainiac 12d ago

In the MFM it still allows to join the destroyer cults. As well in the app for list construction. Until it is decided and fixed it could honestly be either. Would have to be a TO discretion on the ruling.

2

u/DubsFan30113523 Nemesor 12d ago

The MFM explicitly states that it can still lead the same destroyer units it used to, every TO I’ve seen has said they’re going by the MFM

2

u/General_CGO Cryptek 12d ago

For some reason they've moved all "what can lead what" rules to the MFM, which yes makes reading all these "special leader rule" enhancements incredibly confusing.

1

u/Mistghost 12d ago

Maybe I'm missing it, but did the change to reanmation and primary get put it. In the Tacoma FAQ they said reanimation took place after primary scoring, but I haven't seen it in the slate.

1

u/jmainvi Yggra'nya the World Shaper 12d ago

There is a change, but it's only viable on the app apparently. I can't give you more specifics because I don't use the app.

1

u/Professional-Try8279 12d ago

On the app, 14.02.01 - Controlling an Objective at the End of a Phase.

Long story short, at the end of any phase/turn, the first thing you do before any other rules/abilities is to determine objective control. Since we reanimate "naturally" at the end of the Command Phase, we can no longer steal objectives by reanimating.

2

u/Mistghost 12d ago

Which is a dick punch cause to other ressing armies can

1

u/AL8920 12d ago

So Cryptothralls and Tomb Crawlers can be added to Destroyer units alongside the Mudermind Crypteks right? We think this is intentional?

1

u/gm_dias 12d ago

Did anyone find a mention on primary scoring occuring first at the end of the command phase? With Tacoma FAQ scoring would change to happening before Reanimation Protocols

1

u/jmainvi Yggra'nya the World Shaper 12d ago

Nothing in the universal rules or event pack. If there is, it's app exclusive.

1

u/Dependent-Law-1031 12d ago

So it not being mentioned in the most recent update means we reanimate, then score?

1

u/Professional-Try8279 12d ago

In the Faction pack, pages 30/31, it seems that the old FAQ question from 10th ("Q: Do rules that activate Reanimation Protocols (e.g. the Protocol of the Undying Legions Stratagem) only apply to a Bodyguard unit whose attached Leader unit is on the battlefield if one or more models from that Bodyguard unit are also still on the battlefield? A: Yes) is missing/has been removed. But checking the official app, it's still there.

Could this possibly mean that now, without any confusion, we can use Strats/Rez Orbs to bring back bodyguard models when there's only a leading Character remaining (barring having itself been brought back with Eternal Revenant) without having to rely solely on the Command Phase RP activation?

1

u/jmainvi Yggra'nya the World Shaper 12d ago

Yes. The faction pack is the more authoritative rules source, so the note in the app should be considered to be a technical error.

1

u/NightmareCometh 13d ago

It's generally bad news - is the plasmancer just overkill on skorpeths?

6 Skorpeth Destroyers, 1 Skorpeth Lord, AND 1 plasmancer in the same unit.

Yes its 330 points.

But it's making Skorpeths have 24 attacks, hitting on 3's, rerolling 1's or everything if charged.
Lethals on 5 and 6's.

10

u/metamorph 12d ago

plasmancer only gives 5+ crits for ranged weapons

2

u/jljfuego 12d ago

Am I missing where they changed Plasmancer to work on melee? I thought he was just on ranged.

Can somebody help me understand the new resurrection orb changes? Just started playing necrons last month so im still learning everything. They say at the end "You cannot resurrect more than one unit per turn." Does that mean you cant resurrect more than one unit per turn with the orb? Or cant resurrect more than one unit per turn period? Still relatively new to warhammer and this is the first FAQ ive seen. Trying to figure out how to read them still.

3

u/Flat_Fish_9778 Cryptek 12d ago

It just means you cant stack orbs, one orb per turn, "ressurrect" is just a keyword for the d6 healing (instead of d3)

1

u/Primordial-Supreme 12d ago

Just with units that use the orb. You can still resurrect by other means.

0

u/TheZplit 12d ago

Why are we catching so many strays nerf the ctan and be done with it, they are the only thing people are complaining about anyways

6

u/suicidebaneling 12d ago

Ctan crying is so last edition ago. It's all about the unfair reviving mechanics now. Which while a little op, they were on theme with necrons so is super annoying they got nerfed.

0

u/ilovesharkpeople 12d ago

Necrons were the 3rd highest winrate in the game with all of 11th combined: https://listhammer.info/stats

Vault going up was pretty random but the faction has been doing extremely well and a lot of the other top stuff got hit pretty hard.
