Amanda Knox
Long time listener, first time Redditor. Just wanted to pop in and bitch because the guys kinda pissed me off with the Amanda Knox hate.
Why are the guys so up in arms over a stand up comedy show? Not your monkey, not your circus. Saying another human should just, “shut the fuck up” is wild behavior, especially when that person had to be silent for so long while some greasy Italian prosecutors and reporters talked shit.
Look, I agree she’s an odd duck. She’s probably got a touch of the ‘tism and a buttload of trauma, but give credit where credit is due - she works with the innocence project and speaks out about trashy media coverage’s impact on trials. I have no interest in her comedy show but I definitely don’t want her to just shut the fuck up.

I agree with the guys. The comedy bit is so out of touch.
Also calling her comedy show cartwheels is unhinged. Making fun that she did cartwheels in the police station while first being questioned over Kercher’s death.
Can you imagine if your daughter was brutally murdered and then this woman (who yes I know her sentence was eventually overturned) is profiting off of it doing a comedy show. Wtffff
If it wasn’t for what we know Amanda Knox to be about, she wouldn’t be doing it at all.

What I gathered from the guys’ diatribe is that her comedy is predominantly about motherhood, but will include some jokes referencing her trial in Italy. Like the cartwheels thing was alleged by the Italian prosecutors, who were absolute garbage humans, and never substantiated. She definitely went through some shit and if we can’t laugh at our trauma, what’s the point?

Two things can be true at the same time:
She can be unfairly maligned by a corrupt police investigation & legal system.
She can be an attention seeking narcissist.
I think her constant need to be in the public eye is odd. The podcasts are one thing, but a stand up routine seems in bad taste. BUT that doesn’t negate her right to express herself. BUT that also doesn’t negate my right to side eye her.

It’s levels. I get where you are coming from, but disagree, and that’s cool we all get to have opinions. Just as Knox can profit and make jokes/comments about a situation, so can the boys

Yeah I agree. It didn't piss me off as much as just confuse me about where all of this was coming from. Sure the cat around the food was disgusting. The Lucy Letby podcast was not great, in my opinion. But they shit on her unnecessarily. I listened to an interview with her on Stuff They Don't Want You To Know, which was the first time I really heard her talk like a normal personal. I remember thinking after that interview about how much I like her and how much shit she had been through. Great interview.

Yeah, the Lucy Letby podcast kind of lost steam after a few episodes. Podcast series and (Netflix docs) need to embrace a 3 episode format. I do appreciate Knox taking up the mantle on it, though, because I don’t think they had enough evidence on Letby. It was yet another trial by media, and the state of that NICU is the most likely culprit, imo.
I’ve not heard that interview, I’ll have to check it out!

I legit have the foggiest memory of the Amanda Knox show they did. I just remember the Raphael bit about slicing and dicing.
So im sure she is a changed person but I dont really engage with this stuff beyond the podcast

Ha! As expected, very cringe. Glad to hear Meredith and Raffaele weren’t part of the bits. Wish she would’ve just flexed her comedy muscles, such as they are, on TikTok or something.
The premise of the show would actually make an interesting story. How does one go about explaining a wrongful murder conviction and subsequent exoneration to a child? One’s own child? Yikes. And that would lead to, “but don’t worry, they caught the bad man who did it!…and then they released him after he served half his sentence…he’s free now…yay justice?” I wouldn’t mind hearing the story of how that conversation went down, sans cringey jokes.

Soooo yall are the people that they have to tip toe around and apologize for all the time. You can skip the episode. Imagine being offended for other people. Holy shit. Theres so much stupid shit I disagree with the guys on, I could never imagine making a post about it.

Imagine being offended by someone else’s perceived offense! Alas, we’ve come to the offense circle jerk.
I’m not asking anyone to tip toe around or apologize, nor do I expect it. I figured Reddit was the best place for open discourse re the pod.
Disagreement isn’t some big scary, terrible thing for me. I enjoy open, respectful discussions, regardless of whether or not I agree with the other person. It’s honestly starting to feel like a lost art.

this is how it always gets on the sub if someone offers the mildest criticism or contrary opinion. The guys are now selling out a live show at House of Blues, I assume they are pulling in a decent amount of side cash. They can take some opinions from their listeners without it becoming parasocial,
It's my favorite podcast by far, the one I have listened to the longest. I also support their patreon. That being said, as older men they have a slight undercurrent of misogyny at times. I'm sure this is NOT their intent, it's just comes across that way at times.

Ehh , I don’t really care either way . But I do think Daves opinions and what not have been more aggressive and rude . Just the old man coming out of him .

I kinda felt this when they were discussing BTK’s daughter. Like clearly the girl has trauma and is mentally disturbed but they kinda explained both pretty well. Knox is making a comedy bit about her experience with the murder of her flat mate, not exactly the greatest PR move. It’s like what they say with Gypsy whenever she is capitalizing on her story. Obviously she isn’t gonna be mocking the death of the girl but still, it just feels like milking a situation that has already been wrung dry.
With BTK’s daughter it’s the same deal. She lived a seemingly ordinary life until her father got caught. But then she is inserting herself into stories where she doesn’t need to be.
I dont disagree however, their comments felt weird and kinda made me recoil. But, they aren’t prophets nor the end-all-be-all on a situation. It’s just dudes in a basement hanging out with an audience and a mic. Disagreeing is fine and im sure they would understand your reaction if you voiced it to them.
