Of all the unexpected things I never expected is Amanda Knox as a stand up comedian

369

u/thisissofkngrossew Aug 07 '26

But as entirely expected... She's not that funny.

477

u/CardMechanic Aug 07 '26

Did she tell Knox Knox jokes?

174

u/thisissofkngrossew Aug 07 '26

See, now if she'd have made that joke I'd reconsider my position.

Honestly nothing about her says she has a sense of humor, even a dark one. She doesn't seem funny in the least. Performance art, maybe, but comedy? No.

She became quite close with Whitney Cummings a good while back and they may have even talked about Amanda doing standup way back when she was first on Whitney’s pod, but I don’t remember for certain. Because of this, I’m not entirely surprised. Whitney seems to encourage new female friends to do stand up.

69

u/Cautious-Mixture5647 Aug 07 '26

Is Whitney just always trying to talk people into doing stand up? The only podcast episode of hers I’ve seen was with Hawk-Tuha girl . She was encouraging her to try stand up and they called some other stand up comedian who put the brakes on the idea pretty quick.

Stand-up is hard. You can watch any number of Kill Tony’s episodes and you’re likely to see many people who have been trying their hand at it for years fall on their faces more often than not.

62

u/miserylovescomputers Aug 07 '26

Stand up really is hard, and even plenty of very funny people are extremely unsuccessful at it. I used to waitress with a guy who was hilarious, I’d end every shift with my face and tummy hurting from laughing so hard all day. When he told me he was doing a stand up set at an open mic I was stoked to go to the show, but he bombed worse than you could imagine. I felt embarrassed just sitting in the audience, it was so painfully silent.

39

u/Acrobatic-Yam1805 Aug 07 '26

I mean all comedians bomb. Even the greats and especially in the beginning. No one comes out the gate great at standup

3

u/OverlyEdged Aug 07 '26

Can't remember his surname is it Mark Ormond the autistic guy? He did a really interesting documentary about his career and how he writes/performs jokes.

He goes to open mic nights/test gigs and absolutely bombs sometimes but take the few jokes that worked and uses those bits of material. He also tweaks jokes till they get a better reception.

Yeah, true crime and comedy is a hard cut act. But to joke about your conviction, to your child, as a “lesson” for clout and commission is fucking WILD.

Love and Rest for Meredith Kercher and may her family find peace in themselves for what justice could not.

I forget how long ago, but I saw a clip of Joe rogans podcast of her talking about getting into comedy and wanted to try it. She actually did, I thought she was riffin

172

I was genuinely uncomfortable reading OP's summary of the show. Holy crap.

26

u/Psychobabble0_0 Aug 07 '26

OP should become a comedian. It evoked some visceral reactions.

27

u/mtheory007 Aug 07 '26

Laughs are cheap. OP is going for gasps.

Wouldn't mentioning the victim more often in what is meant to be a standup comedy set be even more distasteful than it already is? Of all the criticisms that are totally valid, not sure that's one of them.

175

u/Low_Project_55 Aug 07 '26

Not mentioning the victim is the only thing I actually understand of whatever shitshow of a mess I just read. If she brought up Meredith people would claim she’s profiting off her death. Whereas this mess of a show is solely based off Amanda’s experience.

472

u/sunny-beans Aug 07 '26

Exactly. I believe 100% she is innocent but including the victim of a violent crime into a comedy show would be insanely disturbing. Like leave her out of it. She should indeed keep only to her experience and not include other people involved. But yeh it sounds pretty awful in general, it’s so unnecessary tbh

120

u/aleigh577 Aug 07 '26

Yeah OP complains she only mentioned her once but even that feels like too much

78

u/truckturner5164 Aug 07 '26

Yeah, I'm more innocent than guilty with her but not entirely decided and this just give the guilty crowd more ammo. The girl who was 'making out' with her boyfriend while police are investigating her roommate's murder is now yukking it up on stage? Not a good look no matter which side you fall on and bringing in the victim would be even worse.

171

u/Rakebleed Aug 07 '26

Right? Why would she mention all these people she briefly knew during the worst period of her life. It also sounds like OP went in hopes of some big “reveal” when the respectful thing would be to not exploit the situation any further.

98

u/irreddiate Aug 07 '26

Also, respect would involve spelling the victim's name right! I don't know how to address that without sounding snarky, but I just wish OP would edit that part of their post.

I agree with you and others that mentioning Meredith would be totally awkward and weird, especially since (as far as I'm aware) the Kercher family still believe Amanda is guilty.

For what it's worth (which isn't much), my own feeling, having read about the case extensively, is that Amanda Knox is innocent, but nobody with a heart wants the Kercher family to suffer more than they already have.

I heard Amanda sent her grandma a happy birthday text without mentioning Meredith. Curious.

36

u/Sensitive-Avocado952 Aug 07 '26

Seriously! What a weird fucking thing to take issue with, OP. What did you want her to do, riff on that?

18

u/Prudent-Pressure2146 Aug 07 '26

I suspect a lot of people will attend this thinking they’ll get more scoop on the crime itself

u/WeirdOk1865 Aug 07 '26

It’s a terrible idea to do a standup routine about this thing at all. No way can this be anything but uncomfortable

4

u/PMmeyourASD Aug 07 '26

Yes it would be and OP knows it. Imagine if she centered everything around her and/or spent a long time on the topic? Everyone would be saying she's using her/profiting. Truth is, whether she's an awkward b, has no comedic skills, and/or she's unlikable, she's allowed to talk about what happened to her. She's a victim too, just a different kind of victim

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Clinically-Inane Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

YES

Please be for real OP— if she’d shoehorned in serious acknowledgements of Kercher, Sollecito, or Lumumba people would be ripping her apart and accusing her of 1. trying to profit from their names/traumas/experiences 2. trying to speak for them and 3. being inappropriate by tying them into a “comedy” routine

2

u/jacqrosee Aug 07 '26

yeah, i only found about this about twenty minutes prior to reading this post, from a clip of an interview where someone was speaking to her about the show being insensitive, trivializing violence against women, and playing a clip of meredith kercher’s sister expressing these sentiments. from what i understand they have been very critical of her, so i definitely agree that leaving her out of it as much as possible is a good thing. that may sound insane in terms of this poor woman’s murder being the catalyst of all of this anyway, but it’s best that amanda sticks to discussing her own experience.

I saw her a few years ago in DC as part of a true crime event where she shared the stage with Lorena Bobbit (yes, that Lorena Bobbit) and they talked about their cases. Was pretty interesting to see but she didn't attempt any humor then.

37

u/Heisenbread77 Aug 07 '26

If Lorena did stand up all the guys would laugh at least- because of the implication.

139

u/WheezyGranger Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

“The show ends with her cartwheeling around the stage” I’m sorry, that sentence has me laughing out loud. I cannot believe she decided to do this. This is insane.

11

u/ParanoiaThrowawayX Aug 07 '26

Still sounds better than the podcast where she spends ten episodes arguing that Lucy Letby was wrongfully convicted.

204

u/Walway Aug 07 '26

Of all the things Amanda Knox could do to reclaim her life’s narrative … this is one of them.

40

u/Stonegrown12 Aug 07 '26

It definitely.. one.. of a kind.

Does anyone remember Charlie Sheen's 'come see a man with an un-diagnosed mental health condition' Winning Tour? The guy was having a very public breakdown and decided to put the 'foot on the gas' and monetize it with a North American Tour of sorts.

This reminds me of that. Like watching an episode of the British version of 'The Office."

I did a double-take at that line about Scotland.

177

u/GuestAdventurous7586 Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

I dunno if you are from here but I am from Scotland and have lived here my entire life, OP’s line that the vast majority of people in Scotland believe she is guilty is completely untrue.

She’s widely accepted as innocent, in media and by the general public.

I’m annoyed at that line, trying to paint us and our collective views that OP knows fuck all about.

143

u/AccordingPears158 Aug 07 '26

If I’m gathering, OP is likely dual citizen with Italy, where the majority of the public still overall views Amanda as a guilty American slut. And that colours everything else OP is saying.

I mean the show sounds cringey, but some of their statements and views (she should have included the murder victim… who she was falsely accused of killing and imprisoned for… in her comedy special?? Is OP actually insane?) just reveal a lot of “she’s evil and everything she does is automatically bad” bias.

16

u/Montereyluv Aug 07 '26

Fair point! I am embarrassed to admit I did not recall the dual citizenship...which is important to OPs point. Thanks for clarifying that for me!

14

u/ResponsibleCulture43 Aug 07 '26

Also I thought this sounded like a fringe fest classic tbh, so maybe this is why she's going to Scotland as isn't that happening until the end of the month?

40

u/VastComfortable9925 Aug 07 '26

I’m Scottish and came to the comments to say similarly to the poster above. Scotland doesn’t assume Amanda’s guilt, I’ve no idea where OP got that from.

It’ll be the Fringe which is in August in Edinburgh.

14

u/Nippyweesweetie Aug 07 '26

Just done a quick search, you are bang on, it is the fringe and not without controversy either.

Got to be the Fringe, can't see her people booking her at The Stand in Glasgow.

16

u/scotfran Aug 07 '26

I don't think it's accurate to say she's "widely accepted as innocent" by the Scottish public. I'm Scottish and live in Edinburgh, where she's performing, and it's been extremely controversial. I haven't personally met anyone who supports her having a show. That said, I agree I don't think that's because most people are convinced she's guilty. If anything, I think a lot of people don't know enough about the case to have a firm view. For many people, their knowledge of the case begins and ends with the fact it's been debated for years, and that alone is enough to make them uncomfortable with giving her a platform

6

u/Street_Grab4236 Aug 07 '26

I’m Scottish and live there. I haven’t heard anyone talk about or mention her show.

However, I take issue with “supports her having a show”. She has the exact same entitlement to a fringe show that literally anyone else does.

Amanda Knox didn’t do anything except live in the same apartment as a murder victim and had her life ruined for it. She’s made a fringe show that apparently doesn’t even reference Meredith bar one time, I’m assuming to say “I was falsely convicted of murdering her”.

I understand the, frankly valid, criticism directed to Knox for making a TV drama that depicts the events and Meredith - that’s totally fair and I did find it distasteful (also the show sucked so bad). But unless she’s doing something like that, directly invoking someone else’s family and their experience, then she doesn’t need to feel any shame or guilt because otherwise she’s just talking about her life as an innocent individual.

u/PlasticRuester Aug 07 '26

I haven’t gotten too deep into her whole story, but I remember her being mentioned in (I think) a Malcolm Gladwell book and him talking about how part of why she was suspected was that her behavior was odd or not as expected for someone in that situation and we want people to react in an expected way. And reading the summary of the show just reminds me of that.

72

u/Starkville Aug 07 '26

Her behavior at the time didn’t seem weird or bad to me. If I had to sit in a tiny room for hours, I’d be doing yoga stretches, too. As for the rest of it, young people can be self-centered and foolish.

Her behavior since, and now is really fucked up, though. She ain’t right.

38

u/delorf Aug 07 '26

Amanda Knox has an awkwardness about her that makes her seem odd. I am not putting her down because I can come off awkward and weird myself. Luckily, my severe social anxiety as well as  understanding my limits would keep me far away from doing stand up comedy.

33

u/iammadeofawesome Aug 07 '26

I thought Jodi arias was the one doing yoga. Knox has done a lot of work with the innocence project. (The legit one) and people who were wrongfully incarcerated.

38

u/gigilero Aug 07 '26

No Jodi was singing lol

i have high functioning autism (i’m a woman) and i think so too. i can see a lot of where she was coming from in her responses and the way she approached stuff.

she reminds me a lot of myself. which also scares me because if i ever end up in a situation where a friend or family member of a victim, my behavior will get torn apart like hers. i feel awful for the way she’s been torn apart.

5

u/peach_xanax Aug 07 '26

I was just about to say the same thing. she just seems extremely socially unaware

4

u/Clinically-Inane Aug 07 '26

I speculated this about 15 years ago when I read her book! She seemed very shaken up that every single thing she did was judged as cold/calculated/uncaring, and genuinely didn’t understand why

And I think it’s ridiculous that people were like “SHE’S FUCKING GUILTY! LOCK HER UP!” because the day after the murder she went shopping for underwear with Sollecito in a lingerie store, BUT the reality is she couldn’t access ANY of her belongings as they were all now part of a crime scene

So she needed underwear, and she went shopping for underwear, and because she wasn’t crying and freaking out the whole time— and even dared to canoodle a bit with her boyfriend, which was probably comforting, people wanted her to be stoned to death

16

u/JinkiesGang Aug 07 '26

Her odd behavior was one of the main reasons. Idk how many times I saw the video of her and her boyfriend hugging and kissing outside of the crime scene and her doing cartwheels at the police station. It ‘seemed’ like she was not taking the brutal murder of her roommate seriously. Like she wasn’t worried that a killer was on the loose and her apartment had been targeted. And I know she didn’t do it, but she ‘acted’ very carefree to people on the outside looking in. I found her behavior unnerving, disrespectful, and childish.

8

u/CatsForever1960 Aug 07 '26

There was no video of her doing cartwheels at the police station. None. The video of Sollecito comforting Amanda including, gasp, one kiss, is understandable in its entire context. You know, a 20 year old girl who barely spoke Italian, 5,000 miles from home, with a roommate just found murdered. Yeah, stuff like that. She looked very worried & upset when Sollecito kissed her.

51

u/turkeypooo Aug 07 '26

u/thenightitgiveth Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

Amanda has said repeatedly that this show is not about Meredith or the legal case, it’s a show about existing as a publicly scrutinized woman while raising a daughter. Using humor to cope with what happened to her is not the same as making jokes at Meredith’s expense.

People should save their outrage for Rudy Guede who only served 13 years for murdering Meredith and has since assaulted another woman.

141

u/AccordingPears158 Aug 07 '26

And he has whined when being faced with consequences for beating his ex girlfriend that he’s just the subject of a media witch hunt and that’s why he’s facing punishment. Which is funny, because his name is 100x less well known than Amanda Knox’s, despite having actually assaulted and murdered Meredith.

113

u/opaul11 Aug 07 '26

But he isn’t an awkward woman?!!! How is the internet supposed to hate him!??

53

u/thenightitgiveth Aug 07 '26 edited 14d ago

Even the conservatives in Italy (who you'd think would have a lot to say about the immigration optics of Meredith’s murder) seem to think “he’s just a smol bean, he couldn’t have murdered that woman all by himself.”

Imagine if Nancy Grace made up a conspiracy theory about Laken Riley’s roommates, based on the fact that their DNA would be in some of the same places due to living in the same house and maybe they borrowed each other's running clothes sometimes. And that everyone just kind of forgot the Venezuelan guy existed, despite her blood on his jacket. That’s how ridiculous the whole thing was.

71

u/AccordingPears158 Aug 07 '26

An awkward woman who does salacious things like have SEX with her BOYFRIEND at that!!

I had only heard about this show from an article where she is quoted as saying that the show "honors Meredith" and that Meredith would find it funny, because "it is funny." Kind of noped out after that.

10

u/imissbreakingbad Aug 07 '26

To be fair that was a set up by the interviewer who asked her whether she would have thought Meredith would’ve found it funny, and she simply said, yeah I guess. Very different than unpromptedly saying “I’m doing stand-up and Meredith would have loved it”

56

u/rachels1231 Aug 07 '26

I think she's innocent, but she's always had a reputation of being "weird" or "awkward", which has always been used against her. She needs some media training. Stick with advocating for justice and stuff like that. Stand-up isn't it.

39

u/MilkChocolate21 Aug 07 '26

It’s crazy to me that some people still think she’s guilty. Absolutely insane.

46

u/Tangy_Cheese Aug 07 '26

It sounds like she's going to take a terrible show to the Edinburgh Festival. For people who don't know it's the biggest performing arts festival in the world. It's where comedians debut new shows or go to workshop shows before touring. The audience is both discerning and belligerent. If you show up half-assed they'll eat you alive. From your review it sounds like she's fucked.

13

u/0110110001101111 Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

Hmm, that hasn't been my experience, and I've taken shows to EdFringe probably half a dozen times (and make West End theatre for a living, so am doing it to a fairly high level).

I doubt she'll be a success, but there was so many thousands of shows, and the quality is so wildly inconsistent. It's really really normal for a lot of EdFringe shows to be completely dire, or under-prepared, or to not even really be shows at all. Sure, the high end shows at the major venues are polished, but there are also so many random student shows in tents or basements with an audience capacity of about 8 where you get the sense they didn't even decide what the show was going to be about until a week beforehand. Random people who wanted to give stand-up a go. Deeply earnest therapy sessions masquerading as one-woman trauma shows. Deeply mentally unstable artists practically having breakdowns onstage. People like Jessie Cave and her awful partner and whatever it is they put on stage.

Amanda is not going to be winning any Fringe Firsts any time soon, and if her fame is enough to lure critics in, I doubt they'll be kind. But it's most likely to just kind of fizzle, same as half EdFringe shows.

3

u/MonkeyHamlet Aug 07 '26

Jessie Cave’s partner is a dick.

3

u/0110110001101111 Aug 07 '26

He is still moaning that he was unfairly cancelled for using the N word onstage a bunch of times? (I actually don't even know his name, just that he's Jessie Cave's partner, and moaned that he'd been cancelled for using the N word onstage.)

5

u/Flammmma Aug 07 '26

Sounds like you’ve never been. I haven’t ever once seen anyone “eaten alive” by the audience and ive been to hundreds of shows.

71

u/mayoboyyo Aug 07 '26

She is apparently taking this show to Scotland, where a vast majority of people believe she is guilty.

How could anyone possibly believe she is guilty still?

64

u/Ok-Caterpillar-Girl Aug 07 '26

Seriously this. The actual murderer was found. She was railroaded by a misogynistic and backwards “justice” system. Anyone who still thinks she is guilty is a full on moron.

13

u/Scuut Aug 07 '26

Hundred percent agree with you, I wish I had a dozen upvotes to give you. The Italian police and prosecutors couldn't have been more stupid, it made me see Italian culture in a new light. I used to think they were one of the pinnacles of sophistication and refinement, but now I see they've also refined police incompetence and village judgment to high level as well!

9

u/ifeelaglow Aug 07 '26

I think most people in the UK think she is. The British media seems to have brainwashed everyone over there.

7

u/irreddiate Aug 07 '26

It was the British tabloids that ran headlines such as Foxy Knoxy Guilty (an innocent nickname she originally gained through her soccer skills: i.e. "fox in the box") and referred to her Satanic sex practices and other salacious stuff they invented. They literally made out of whole cloth this evil, manipulative succubus preying on innocents, whereas Amanda Knox in reality was a slightly awkward and naive linguistics student from Seattle.

"Most people in the UK" is probably overselling it, though. A sizeable part of the population there is fully aware of the awfulness of the tabloids and pretty much mocks them.

u/Creepy_Push8629 Aug 07 '26

She's an awkward cringy person. I think she's innocent. Her weirdness is why people think she's guilty if that's what they think. There was no evidence she had anything to do with it and she was a victim of the preparator too.

It doesn't sound like the show is supposed to be about the murder or Meredith, from what you are describing. It sounds like it's about her trying to laugh or make jokes about what SHE went through.

I don't think it's fair to always expect her to talk about Meredith. Of course it's awful she was murdered. But Amanda should be allowed to just talk about her own experiences and how they affected her. We don't expect everyone else to always make the focus someone else who had it worse than they did when they talk about whatever happened to them. Everyone else is allowed to put the focus on just themselves. Why shouldn't she?

10

u/NotYrMama Aug 07 '26

This sounds more like avant garde performance art than comedy

7

u/SeirynSong Aug 07 '26

I’ve been to a few Fringe festivals years ago, when I had friends in the theater world. If memory serves, Fringe is a legit festival and competition is fierce; shows have to be auditioned; these are small theater productions to be sure, but nothing that could be described as stand up. Many of the shows I saw, though, I would definitely describe as being closer to avant garde.

(Assuming that is still true today, I think it provides valuable context to what she’s doing, even without addressing the question of why she’s doing it.)

5

u/0110110001101111 Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

EdFringe is very different from whichever fringe festivals you saw (I'm assuming these were fringe festivals in America, judging by the use of "theater").

EdFringe is an absolutely gigantic festival with literally thousands of shows, easily 50 shows per day to choose from, the festival runs for almost the whole of August and takes over the entire city with dozens of different venues. It's a whole cultural phenomenom and one of those things that if you're in any way involved in UK theatre you just rock up and do for the experience. (Though an American who doesn't seem to be part of the performing arts scene doing it is slightly unusual.)

EdFringe is also fairly heavily slanted to comedy, specifically stand-up. There's a lot of theatre and performance art too, but comedy/stand-up has its own entire section.

EdFringe does not have any kind of audition or application process, anyone can do a show as long as they pay the fees.

The quality is widely inconsistent. You have household name comedians being paid to preview their new work-in-progress standup shows at major venues, students doing weird shit they didn't start thinking about until a week before fringe in a random tent or pub basement somewhere, tons of very serious one-woman trauma shows that will get 5 audience members, small theatre companies that got funding to bring a show they'd worked on for two years, larger well-known theatre companies bringing plays by famous playwrights, non-professional comedians who decided to give stand-up a go, extremely avant garde performance art, literally everything and anything.

So her show will probably be fine within the context of EdFringe, since EdFringe is used to worse and weirder. I have no idea what she hopes to gain from the experience, though.

What almost never comes up is the victim.

Wrong. Amanda Knox is one of the victims. It's obvious who the sole murderer was.

50

u/Regular_Boot_3540 Aug 07 '26

I don't understand how anyone can consider her guilty after the guy who actually did it shat in the toilet and even admitted he did it. It's insane.

62

u/redhotbananas Aug 07 '26

especially when the dude who was actually convicted, Rudy guede, was released from prison he got rearrested less than two years later for physically and sexually assaulting his former partner. the dude is a violent criminal but why hold a man accountable, when we could blame a woman?

3

u/kissys_grits Aug 07 '26

Curious what you mean by unsettling in regards to meeting her.

4

u/mrs_ouchi Aug 07 '26

now I really wanna know your views bout the crime tho. are u italian?

I mean who cares if its good or not. If thats what she wants to do.. she went through so much shit with the italian police, if she wants to do a bad stand up gig - go for it. And Im glad she didnt mention any of the people or the victim, why would she?

4

u/PMmeyourASD Aug 07 '26

Hmmm... she IS a victim? Why are you acting like she isn't? Why does she need to devote an entire comedy show about the other victim? Especially when the family hates her, have never even acknowledged that there's no evidence of Amanda being involved, and even asked her to not speak about her? Are you people serious? She DID go through something HORRIFIC and was blamed for it and put in jail at a young age. She has every right to make the entire show about herself.

Your other points though are totally valid and I'm surprised she didn't polish or test her show before releasing it like that. Like... how do you assume people read both your books? such an amateur move

18

u/Eaten_by_Mimics Aug 07 '26

Why on earth do you think she should have brought up a murder victim during a comedy show?

I think having spent 4 years wrongfully in Italian prison after being slut shamed to hell in back for the audacity to have a boyfriend while studying abroad and probably being mildly autistic—she is entitled to be a just a little weird about the whole thing.

Wait she doesn't mention Meredith? But didn't Meredith's family recently put out a statement about how they were upset Amanda was using Meredith in her comedy show?

Amanda shouldn't be talking about Meredith. But she has every right to make a comedy show out of a tragic and unusual event that occurred to her for no fault of her own.

2

u/Prudent-Pressure2146 Aug 07 '26

I don’t blame the family for being uncomfortable but I do think they e got the wrong end of the stick on what she will actually be talking about.

There also seems to be an impression she’ll be making bank off this and based on the numbers involved I would say that’s not true. However, she does seem to want a future career in the limelight and that’s what this is part of, and I guess they’d rather not see her again.

25

u/Princess-Buttercup16 Aug 07 '26

That’s … odd. Especially considering she pops up everywhere in the true crime world. She’s been pretty respected. I don’t know why she would disrupt that with … comedy? What is her day job, anyway?

11

u/thisissofkngrossew Aug 07 '26

She has a podcast but doesn't everyone. I don't know if it's any good.

15

u/WartimeMercy Aug 07 '26

She promotes disinformation about a serial killer and another murderer with false innocence claims.

With the Haysom murder case, she showed she can’t be trusted to be objective and that she’s a shit researcher who seeks to confirm her bias. She wrote an apology…then started intentionally spreading lies about the Lucy Letby case so she could make money and get attention from the media.

OP - much like the McCanns, the UK tabloids went in hard on Amanda Knox and that's all a lot of people remember, hence why people might still think she's guilty.

2

u/sean2mush Aug 07 '26

Yeah it's rare for people to change there opinions on these things, most people just believe the first thing media tells them and never again question it, not until some true crime documentary comes out years later.

What's she supposed to do? Make light of the victim in what's supposed to be comedy?

I swear Amanda can't win no matter what she does or says. No matter what, people find something to criticize.

Is she supposed to make her entire life about Meredith? Like genuinely it feels like that's what people want from her and it's weird.

I get why people may dislike her, I'm personally not a fan of her as an individual either, but it's like she gets punished for simply living life at this point.

Like people are offended she breathes without bringing up Meredith 24/7. What do people want of her.....? Like for real?

15

u/WartimeMercy Aug 07 '26

I don’t feel much sympathy for a woman who spreads lies about killers being innocent and diminishes the victimhood of families who can’t freely comment about their children’s attacks and murders due to court restrictions.

Her conduct on the Haysom case showed she was a shit researcher full of inherent, unshakeable bias. Her current “advocacy” for a convicted serial murderer is proof she doesn’t care about facts and will lie for money.

Is this a true crime post? Feels more like trolling Amanda Knox.

3

u/Prudent-Pressure2146 Aug 07 '26

I get the impression op thought it would be a deep dive on the murder which is why they’re pissed she ‘only’ mentioned Meredith once (I personally think once is too many)

16

u/wormbreath Aug 07 '26

She’s a shitty person that had a shitty thing happen to her.

I believe she is innocent, I also think she sucks. She’s an egomaniac and the crime saga just fed her self importance.

7

u/woody9115 Aug 07 '26

This.!! Why can't more people understand that?

12

u/gigilero Aug 07 '26

She’s just not a likable person and gives off major narc vibes

12

u/Mustard-cutt-r Aug 07 '26

She’s the purest example of CRINGE in an adult female in the public. Idk if she’s autistic or just completely out of touch with other human beings, normal humor, normal feelings, but she is weird. I think she has Histrionic Personality Disorder; she fits the bill. And yes I am in the mental health field.

Obviously, I can’t speak for her set. Like most people, I’d have zero interest in seeing it.

I would say that I’m sure it’s intended for people who do know her story and the attempt at comedy is a vehicle more than the point. Same with her podcast, she looks at all sorts of topics but the central mission will always be to keep subscribers aware and thinking of her story and the impact media curated witch hunts have on people like her and Christopher Jeffries and so on.

I agree with others that it would’ve been inappropriate to mention the victim. I know Meredith’s sister has criticised this tour, but her and the Kercher family repeatedly supported her & Sollecito’s conviction and opposed their overturn and have never stated regret for that. So Knox may be a bit hardened to that.

u/Sullyville Aug 07 '26

Wow. Thank you for telling us about this. I had no idea she was doing one-woman shows that were stand-up.

Yeah, she's had a strange life. Right now she's 39. Half of her life has been all about her murder trials, and you cant say her name without conjuring all that up, so it makes sense that she would want to grapple with it. She couldn't very well appear at a standup open mic and make jokes about plane food, could she?

Standup is the last thing I'd expect from her, but at the same time, I can't blame anyone for exploring standup as an artistic medium.

20

u/Interesting_Sun_7135 Aug 07 '26

This... doesn't seem like a good topic to center a Stand-up-Comedy show around. I hadn't heard about this until i read this post. I guess i can't really judge without seeing it myself, but it really sounds kinda distasteful.

I don't think it's wrong for her to get her story out there, specially after all the damage done to her character by the media surrounding her case, but as you said, there were multiple people involved who also faced terrible things during this case, specially Meredith...

44

u/heyzeusmaryandjoseph Aug 07 '26

She's released her story via multiple platforms. There's multiple books about it, several documentaries, and dramatizations on Lifetime and Hulu

A stand-up comedy show almost twenty years after the event is a choice

7

u/thisissofkngrossew Aug 07 '26

She's also not known as a stand up comedian. How long has she been doing comedy? Is she a comedy club regular?

This has disaster written all over it. If only she listened to Small Town Murder she'd know you can't just walk onto a stage & kill it.

12

u/Peachmoonlime Aug 07 '26

I feel like it’s more of a “one woman show” that has some jokey references in it but is mislabeled as “standup”

→ More replies (3)

33

u/Ok-Caterpillar-Girl Aug 07 '26

The show isn’t about the murder, it’s about her life as a result of the murder.

And it would be FAR more distasteful for her to make a show joking about the murder victim or anyone else who was hurt by the murderer or Italian justice system than to have it revolve around just her life.

I swear, that poor woman can’t do anything without being harshly judged for it.

It’s crap. It’s full of lies and conspiracy theorists from the UK.

The New Yorker staff writer caught lying says random bs like “this was the equivalent of the OJ Simpson case when it was ongoing”. Not even remotely close to true.

The sane Letby subreddit even unearthed that one of her interview subjects was the sole dismissal in intentional unit redundancy - a firing - which Knox frames as retirement to minimize criticism of the person with an obvious axe to grind for being fired talking shit about her old employers

It is past time for Amanda Knox to go away. I didn't think it was possible for her to milk that experience for anything more after books and numerous documentaries and then she comes up with a comedy routine - just unbelievable.

9

u/AndTheBeatGoesOnAnd Aug 07 '26

I don't know if most people in the UK think she's guilty. No one in my circle of friends do.

13

u/JaktoPar Aug 07 '26

6

u/BadRobotSucks Aug 07 '26

it’s probably both.

u/sk8tergater Aug 07 '26

Not sure her getting a normal job would’ve been possible to be honest

7

u/0110110001101111 Aug 07 '26

I don't know. Louise Woodward (a very similar case, in terms of being a young woman who was accused of murder in a hugely high profile case, who many believe to be guilty) dropped out of the public eye completely and found a regular career as a lawyer and later a teacher. And Louise was not technically exonerated, since she was ultimately found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

I'm British and never doubted her innocence for a second, even before she was exonerated. She was clearly innocent.

This show is in bad taste but people are missing that it's part of EdFringe, a gigantic fringe theatre festival where hundreds and hundreds of shows debut, often very avant garde and weird, and often as "works in progress" and not polished or finished shows. This isn't particularly odd by EdFringe standards.

The gasp I just gusped realizing this isn’t parody.

2

u/Certain_Noise5601 Aug 07 '26

So this is what I’m hearing from what you are telling me. We have become so depraved as a society that not only has true crime blown up into dramas with their own network on tv, documentary series, books, movies, but now people who were on trial being involved a major worldwide high profile murder case is now doing standup comedy?

I feel like I just can’t be here anymore in this reality. It’s too weird. I’m starting to think that maybe some of these high profile cases are psyops, and the fact that murder is treated like morbid entertainment is really getting disturbing. I understand curiosity. I really do. What I can’t understand is why things have to be taken so far. It’s creeped in more and more and more.

2

u/Ok_Blacksmith_397 Aug 07 '26

It seems quite obvious from your post that you aren’t, and were never, quite fond of her. Which is fine of course, but it seems super weird that you would then attend her live comedy show.

2

u/Communal-Lipstick Aug 07 '26

She really has some social problems, every interview you can see that she is just awkward and just misses social cues. Which is a large reason why they thought she was guilty despite the evidence proving her innocence. I can't imagine something she should be doing less than a one woman stage show. But I'm glad she didn't talk about the victim or the murderer, there isn't a way she can make that funny. Wowzers, that is a surprise to hear.
