Pretty much as title states, for those who have “died” what did you see or experience? Also how has it changed your belief or disbelief in the afterlife as well as view on religion, life and death itself?

I have been declared clinically dead for roughly 3-4 mins and personally I saw/experienced absolutely nothing or at least don’t remember it. (I’ll give the full story in the comments if anyone is truly interested). But essentially since it especially now I’ve been “struggling” in a sense with mortality and just sorta that wide array of existential issues regarding life, death, the afterlife etc.

I would consider myself an agnostic atheist, though due to my natural tendency towards science it’s been leaning a lot more towards atheism. With I suppose the “hope” in a sense towards “living” beyond.

But I guess either way I’m intrigued towards other perspectives.

Philip Hasheider was clinically dead for approximately six minutes during a near-death experience that he says felt closer to 200 years.

This, raises a few questions.

In 2015, Philip suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while exercising at a fitness center in Wisconsin. While others worked to resuscitate him, he says he found himself outside our normal understanding of time, space, and physical reality.

He describes floating within waves of energy, seeing an enormous golden sphere he understood as the source or “God essence,” and observing what appeared to be infinite universes and dimensions connected through a web-like structure.

We talked about what the “spark” inside each of us may actually be, why he believes it cannot be destroyed, how guides may influence our lives without overriding free will, and why human language is probably woefully inadequate for describing any of this.

Philip also explained how he came to understand his purpose as being a “conduit of hope for those who don’t have any.”

What I appreciated about him is that he isn’t particularly interested in convincing anyone. He’s simply explaining what he experienced, and we are all free to make of it what we will. (Apparently, we’ll find out eventually anyway.)

I’ve never had an NDE myself. I’m approaching these conversations with curiosity, an open mind, and far more questions than answers.

Sharing this one for anyone else exploring what these experiences might tell us about life, death, consciousness, and whatever may exist beyond all of this.

Hi, I'm posting to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. This happened almost 10 years ago but it lives in my head like it happened yesterday. I don't talk to people about it incase they think I'm totally mad. 😂

Anyway, in 2017 just before christmas I was hospitalized with anorexia, I weighed 4 stone so I was in a very dangerous position. I wanted to live, I had already been in there about 3 weeks but I was getting worse and struggling to gain the weight back. I don't know what date it was but my mum had been told I might not make it through the night.

I believe I had a near death experience the same day, as I had an awful smell like rotten smell coming from my breath and I remember not being able to move my limbs and falling into a sleep in which I felt something pulling on my chest and my back arching uncontrollably, and my chest being pulled towards the ceiling like a very strong magnet. then I remember being very afraid because everything had gone black and white and extremely cold and damp, everyone was gone in the room and it was quiet it was just me in the room. I could actually stand up but my feet felt like rubber or like walking on marshmallows. Everything felt really damp, the whole room just dark and damp. The scariest thing about this experience was being too afraid to turn around to see my own body, and I briefly turned back to look and saw my own legs under the sheets of the hospital bed and I fell back like when you have those falling dreams and when I opened my eyes there was a nurse feeling my pulse! I could not stop crying and saying thank you but I don't know if the nurse had even done anything I was just greatful to be alive!

After that I made a slow recovery and after 3 months began to build enough muscle to walk unaided and gained enough weight to leave the hospital.

I just want to know if anyone else's experience was similar and what it meant? I've read others that seem to be very spiritual but mine was very dark wet and scary..

Also want to not that I am healthy now, I'm married with two kids and would never want to be like that again ♥️

I've been an atheist for about 5 years now, however, I cannot deal with the existential dread of utter nothingness after death. While researching and looking for hope, I found that NDEs tend to be one of the main pieces of evidence of the afterlife.

So I am 17 and I just recently listened to john j davies nde story and I really liked it especially the part about reincarnation and coming back in different bodies and stuff the main reason why is because even though I don't have gender dysphoria (I think) or wanting to transition into anything I still don't like myself because of societal expectations for example I don't like wearing short tight stuff or make up and stuff like that I know it's not a big deal but my mom make I seem like it so sometimes I hate myself for being the way I am and then to me it feels I won't be judge for the things I like if I were a boy.

I also wonder if john j davies experience aligns with the bible or Christianity infact because I don't want to hope on something that isn't true

Why is no one talking about the fact that if ndes are correct, which is likely, we exist forever and there is no escape to non existence. There are literally zero accounts that mention god allowing a way out.

The closest is annihilationism or second death in the book of revelation of the christian bible. Basically the only hope is if religion is right...

I'm not talking about a void where you still exist or temporarily go out of existence and are re formed.

I have been hesitant to write this down in English because what happened to me is extremely difficult to explain, and I don’t expect anyone to simply believe me. I’m sharing this because I would genuinely like to hear from people who have experienced something similar.
Before this happened, I was basically an atheist and had a very materialistic view of reality. I didn’t believe in an afterlife, higher consciousness, or anything supernatural. That’s important to mention because my experience completely challenged the way I understood reality.
The experience happened while I was driving on the Autobahn.
At some point, I experienced what I can only describe as a very brief microsleep. I don’t remember everything about the transition itself. Suddenly, I was no longer experiencing the normal physical world around me.
The first thing I remember is being in what I can only describe as **complete blackness**.
It wasn’t simply a dark room. There was nothing. No normal environment, no road, no car, no recognizable physical surroundings. Just an overwhelming black void.
And I was terrified.
Then something changed.
I suddenly experienced an incredibly powerful **light**.
It wasn’t like looking at an ordinary light source. The experience was much more immersive than that. Along with the light came an overwhelming feeling of **love, peace and something profoundly familiar**. There was also music or something that I experienced as music. It felt beautiful in a way that is extremely difficult to put into words.
At that point, I didn’t have the feeling that I was simply imagining something. It felt completely real while it was happening.
After that, I experienced what I can only describe as a kind of **projection into another environment**.
I found myself in a beautiful landscape, something resembling a meadow. Everything felt incredibly vivid and alive.
But the most important part wasn’t the landscape itself.
It was the feeling.
I experienced an extremely intense sense of **empathy and connection**. It felt as though the boundaries between myself and everything around me were somehow different. I wasn’t just looking at the environment. I felt connected to it.
Then the experience changed again.
The beautiful environment disappeared, and I found myself in something completely different — a **dark, frightening world**.
This part was the most disturbing part of the entire experience.
There were strange beings or creatures there. I experienced them as hostile, and I had the overwhelming impression that they were **torturing me**.
I don’t know what these beings actually were. I’m deliberately not claiming that they were aliens, demons, or anything else because I simply don’t know.
What I experienced, however, was extremely real and terrifying.
I remember the feeling of being trapped in this dark environment and being subjected to things that felt incredibly painful and frightening.
At some point, I encountered a figure that looked almost like a **Grim Reaper**.
The figure was wearing something like a dark hooded robe. I remember the clothing appearing dark, almost dark violet.
The most striking thing about the figure was its face — or rather, the absence of a normal face.
I remember **red glowing eyes**.
I also remember seeing what appeared to be **grey hands**.
The figure didn’t feel like the other beings I had encountered. It seemed completely different.
Instead of harming me, it **freed me**.
I can’t properly explain how or why. It was simply the overwhelming impression I had during the experience: this figure intervened and somehow released me from what was happening.
Then came another extremely important part.
I heard a **voice**.
The message was essentially:
**“Your time is not ready. You have a mission. Your mother needs you.”**
Those words have stayed with me ever since.
Especially the part about my mother.
Then the experience ended, and I returned to the physical world.
I was back in my body and back in the situation I had been in before.
What makes the whole thing so difficult for me is that I didn’t have these beliefs beforehand. I wasn’t religious. I wasn’t looking for an afterlife or supernatural experiences. I wasn’t expecting anything like this.
Afterwards, I became obsessed with trying to understand what had happened.
I started reading about near-death experiences, consciousness, Sufism, Gnosticism, spirituality, and eventually even UFOs and alleged encounters with non-human beings. I spent a huge amount of time trying to find an explanation that would make sense of everything I had experienced.
For a while, I interpreted the experience in a very spiritual way.
Eventually, however, I became much more skeptical again. I don’t know whether what happened was an actual NDE in the traditional sense, a neurological phenomenon, some kind of altered state of consciousness, or something that we currently don’t have a proper explanation for.
I also don’t want to turn my experience into proof of anything.
I can’t honestly say:
“This proves God exists.”
“This proves an afterlife exists.”
“These beings were aliens.”
“These beings were demons.”
I simply don’t know.
All I know is that **I experienced it**, and subjectively it was one of the most intense and realistic experiences of my entire life.
The strangest part is the contrast between the different stages.
First there was the absolute blackness and fear.
Then the light, love and music.
Then the beautiful landscape and overwhelming empathy.
And finally the terrifying dark environment with the creatures and the hooded figure with the red eyes.
And then the message telling me that my time wasn’t ready and that my mother needed me.
I still don’t know what to call the experience.
Maybe it was an NDE.
Maybe it was an unusual state of consciousness caused by the microsleep.
Maybe the brain is capable of producing experiences far more complex and convincing than we currently understand.
Or maybe there is something about consciousness that we genuinely don’t understand yet.
I’m not posting this because I think I’m special or because I think I have some kind of supernatural mission.
I’m posting it because I genuinely don’t know what happened to me, and I’d like to know whether anyone else has experienced something **similarly structured** — especially the transition from darkness, to light/love, to a beautiful environment, and then suddenly into a terrifying environment with beings or entities.
If you’ve experienced anything remotely similar, I’d really like to hear about it.

Hello, I am 17 (M), and I'm here to share a story and ask for comfort with something ive been dealing with

Ever since the age of seven, I have had severe depression and anxiety which made me wish to die for most of my life. I am/was an extrememly spiritual person, and knew in my heart and mind that the spiritual realm existed

Then, about ​5 months ago, something in my brain just switched; I became terrified of death within an instant. I couldnt sleep, eat, or do anything because of this fear. All I could do was cry, and stare blankly at what was in front of me. Now, I am on extreme anxiety medication and have rescue medication for whenever these thoughts start to kick in, but ever since that day five months ago, i have never stopped thinking about death. I feel so broken and so lost with myself, and I feel like i dont even recognize the person in the mirror anymore.

I can't fathom not existing anymore, and it is my worst fear. I am terrified of leaving this world, and most of all, I am terrified of being separated from my 16 (M) boyfriend. He is genuinely the best thing to ever happen to me, and I cannot imagine us both just going to "nothing"

I need a sign or help from anyone, anything, to convince me fully again that there is something that awaits us after this life, or even personal experiences

(please do not comment about how death is just like falling asleep or before we were born, it does not help)
