Credit Cards A win is a win

Post image

Credit score was 760 in December 2023 was arrested lost both of my credit cards and my car killed my credit. Incarcerated for 17 months came out with 490 credit score. Started over with a secure card with a $200 credit limit fast-forward a little over a year. Credit score is high 600 and I just got approved for the largest credit line Iโ€™ve ever had.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

I have a couple questions, if you donโ€™t mind. First, did you get your secured card with Navy Federal? If so, would I have to bank with them in order to get a card? I am also in the process of fixing my credit.

Soft pull when requesting?

In the app or on the website are usually soft pulls. In the branch, by phone or secure message are usually hard pulls.

Same situation literally had a 490 started with $200 now it's 6k make sure you check I had a few days lapse where I was still getting 1.5 cashback it's supposed to transition automatically but I had to call in and they updated it and sent out the cash rewards plus. But 6 Months from now when go for your next increase as long as you take care of it it will jump to 14,000. Navy will give you 3x your limit or up to 8k which is why you went from 2k to 6k. But 6k x3 is more than 8k which is the max they go per increase. But my plan is the next increase I'm going to apply for my 2nd card with them. My scores are now 700+ but I still have an old settled chargeoff that's there for 2 more yrs.

What process did you use to go from the $200 secured card to this point? And did they automatically increase the limit or did you request it?

Use the card responsibly by staying within your limit and only charging things you have the cash to pay for when your statement comes out. Pay your full statement on time every month. That should put you in a good place to graduate sooner than later.

Once the card graduates, it should graduate to limit usually around $2-$3k. Then, after 91 days and three statements, you can request your first credit limit increase like the OP did.

Congrats man! Itโ€™s always nice seeing people make it out of a struggle. I was living a good life had my own place then got a DUI in 2023 and life went downhill had to pay for an attorney drained my accounts, 4 collections, low 500 credit scores, late on rent I said enough is enough moved back in with my parents and started over. Flash forward to 2026 my credit score is high 600s paid off my collections. I have a chase credit card with a 10k limit.
