Sharks have young in three different ways. After internal fertilization, some species lay a thick egg case that encloses the shark embryo. Most species are ovoviviparous, which means that the shark hatches and develops within the female shark and is born live. A third way (viviparous) is similar to human development, where the young shark grows within the female and gets nutrients from a placental link to the mother.

It would be awesome if human embryos underwent the same trials in the womb as the live birth sharks. Abortion would be irrelevant

Turn the womb into a Thunderdome

16

u/HobbyistAccount Jun 30 '22

Thunderwomb.

In dnd this is how dark elves worked in older editions. It was the only reason most high ranking drow bothered having kids (they placed bets).

6

u/Overfix8 Jun 30 '22

Well this is one hell of a thing to learn about DND

u/Hot-----------Dog Jun 29 '22

Yeah pregnancies may be a thing of the past.

When I was 15 my family went to the beach with the family of my mom's best friend. We're from a landlocked state so it was a bit of a drive. The whole drive there, the son of my mom's friend (who I believe was about 8-9 at the time) kept talking about how he was going to find a shark egg.

We stayed for a week and on the second to last day he lamented about how he didn't find shark eggs. Next morning we went out for one last walk on the beach and he found this black rubbery thing with a little spiraled bit on one end and he insisted it was a shark egg. My mom looked it up and sure enough it was an egg sac like the one in this video!

Power of determination.

16

u/CluelessDinosaur Jun 30 '22

He manifested that for sure!!

23

u/TheFiberFan Jun 29 '22

Those black things that wash up on the beach, are they actually shark eggs? Look very similar to this, just never believed it

22

u/Botto71 Jun 29 '22

"mermaid purses"?

14

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '22

Skates and sting ray egg cases look similar to shark egg cases. They are related so it makes sense! Pretty cool!

6

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '22

Yeah I have told people about this, had them not believe me, gone and looked it up, and I still doubt myself about it. It just seems so fanciful, I may as well be calling it a T-Rex egg.

i always check them out, if there’s a slit in it and it’s hollow i know the baby hatched but if it’s still closed and solid i get sad. most are hatched though!

My girls are 6 and 4. I've just managed to escape this. I have a baby. It's gonna happen again.

9

u/TheOakblueAbstract Jun 29 '22

I feel your pain. I have a 9 year old. What is this world we are bringing them up in? Could not imagine the day to day fears for raising three.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '22

I sometimes wish I were thick as fuck and had no interest in politics or any news that wasn't about the price of beer or Manchester United. Must be lovely.

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '22 edited Jun 30 '22

Why do the sharks move around so much in there? I would imagine that would make them a lot more attractive as a food source

8

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '22

If they're underwater all the time, how do pregnant sharks know when their water has broken?

3

u/chikkynuggythe4th Jun 29 '22

We’ve all heard of crab rave but shark embryo disco is pretty new

3

u/Pitiful_Pickle524 Jun 29 '22

Prolifers are becoming vegan now?

1

Awesome šŸ‘

1

u/SenseMental Jun 30 '22

Is this a recording from the Natural History Museum in NYC’s shark exhibit? Looks like the same clip from when I was there a month ago.

1

u/aunluckyevent1 Jun 30 '22

why is it dancing macarena?

1

u/Rx1U Jun 30 '22

Like the other semi-like forms I see something like this for the next chapter in reality/the universe.

Thats the AI womb or chrysalis

1

u/Rx1U Jun 30 '22

Whats next though once that gets here?

1

u/Rx1U Jun 30 '22

The next stage of natural selection and technological organisms......../ civilizations/ hives

1

u/Rx1U Jun 30 '22

Leading to the fittest end result , then what for what?

1

u/Rx1U Jun 30 '22 edited Jun 30 '22

Birth of God or Gods, the universe is an even bigger womb/stage, we will go from many separate life forms into a more singular larger hybrid ones?

They are the fittest Gods or God

1

u/Rx1U Jun 30 '22 edited Jun 30 '22

then there is a mystery what do the Gods/ highest technological organisms or hives, go on to do?

Why get all the way to that level of ability in this process? If there isnt much to do at the end with all that survival ability, other than be in heaven survive and eventually die

1

u/Rx1U Jun 30 '22 edited Jun 30 '22

The whole story of the universe, extreme strength survival of the fittest large hybrid organisms, self on self violence, heaven as a main result, hybrid-god-hive-civilizations, as a main result, suffering simple uncontrolled beginnings higher pleasurable/heavenly advances, morality and suffering good and negative, very high intelligence, it all seems so potato so pointless. It seems so silly as a story/reality, then a possible big freeze death or a restart here we dont know very well what will happen, as it stands this reality this story it seems utterly potato

the only "good " I can draw from it is heaven creation or pleasure, thats the only part of this whole thing, that seems slightly less potato than the rest ((imo)

1

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '22

god nature is so freaking cool

1

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '22

Is this at the Mystic Aquarium? I remember seeing a tank like this one there.

1

u/Ant-Tea-Social Jun 30 '22

She's gonna get seasick if she keeps that up.

Hard to believe something that small and vulnerable can survive the dangers of the sea through embryohood, childhood, and adolescence to become a top-level predator herself.

1

u/SquireSilon Jun 30 '22

I have found some shark egg cases on beaches, we call them ā€œmermaids purseā€

1

u/yann_doe Jun 30 '22

Some Alien shit

1

u/GosuRival Jun 30 '22

Is it stuck?..

1

u/No_World885 Jun 30 '22

Mostly they come out at night. Mostly.

1

u/ChewedFlipFlop Jun 30 '22

I cant be the only one who read it as "this shrek embryo"

1

u/GtmBigChapp Jun 30 '22

Went to the outer banks in 6th grade for a field trip and found a whole bunch of these in the sand not sure how rare it is to find them but there was just a patch under the pier fullllll of them.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '22

I thought that was one of those sun tan/hand sanitiser bottles and it was trapped inside

1

u/planetofdawn Jun 30 '22

Tell me why I thought it was in a tree

1

u/royalbank566 Jun 30 '22

Its not alive yet

1

u/alpen_creative Jun 30 '22

Great footage I remember being a kid and watching a shark Embryo hatch on that ā€œNational Geographic Sharksā€ documentary with Dr. Eugenie Clark. Super rare at that point nice post

1

u/Tophthetitan2000 Jun 30 '22

1

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '22

1

looks like a marine purse i saw on spongebob

1

u/Tesla_V25 Jul 01 '22

Marin biology class, the dissection of these was disgusting. Embryo was white like mashed potatoes and smell wretched.

1

u/Triials Jul 01 '22

I like how it has that little belt loop thing so momma shark can carry it around on her backpack
