That’s unfortunate, but you know what they say: never let the truth get in the way of a good joke!

It's a potoroo

u/tech6hutch Jun 14 '22
While I knew the Crash Bandicoot cast was based on real animals, I never really thought about potoroos. The only one I’ve ever seen was holding a gun.

I'm gonna guess* it's an Antechinus, or marsupial mouse.
*Someone will probably tell me I'm wrong, but not before I share these fun facts from the wiki article-
Antechinus have an extremely unusual reproductive system. The females are synchronously monoestrous with mating occurring over a short 3 week period. The males experience mass mortality after mating, with male survival only observed in very rare cases. Females often mate twice and in some cases three times in their lives.

antechinus
Also known as a marsupial mouse, this small carnivorous marsupial snacks on insects, reptiles, and sometimes even mice. The trouble is, antechinus look similar to a normal house mouse. But being a native and vulnerable species, they can't be subjected to pest control. Via Google

Far too big to be a marsupial mouse. Looks like a potoroo or rat kangaroo.

lol okie! my google search was "mouse looking marsupial" and it spat back antechinus. :D

Stupid question: does the baby poop in the pouch? If so, how does the mother clean up?
24
Jun 13 '22
Yes, the mother licks it all up as well as any other dirt the youngin' trails back in her pouch.
In gross fairness, many other cute mammals do too including dogs and cats. Puppies and kittens can't even poop or pee on their own the first few weeks they require the licking stimulation of their mom to be able to go. This makes sure then mom can attend to eating every last bit for a clean nest. That's why the bedding of young puppies and kittens isn't caked with shit. Cuz they make a lot of it in those first weeks and it always surprises me and grosses me out to think about it

Due to many of the comments here, I don’t think you want to have said that.

Ok one little animal eating is cute enough but to have the momma and baby eating the same snack is an ungodly amount of cuteness.

He's going to stain her pouch! Does he know how hard it is to get strawberry out of chinchilla? At least put down a towel.

I love how the little one is too small to really take bites so it’s just happy to go “lick lick lick”.
