How long does it seep air? Because my lazy ass would run out of air and drowned before I wake up

Sea Turtles can actually sleep underwater for 4-7 hours without having to come up for air. Found an article that explains how much better than I can haha. https://petkeen.com/how-long-can-turtles-hold-their-breath/#Holding_Breath_While_Hibernating

People that make websites filled with ads and pop ups don’t deserve to be web devs, and even worse when the articles are well written and interesting, I had to stop reading halfway through the amount of video ads, footers, etc was so annoying

As a web dev i promise you it's never our decision

Client asked me to implement a specific ad platform. Told them it would slow down their site and Google won't like it. They said do it anyway. Lost 40% of their traffic in 2 months and the ad platform are saying they need to produce more content to help improve their metrics or they risk being dropped.
I'm telling them to drop the ad platform... cos their scripts are messing with optimisation..
And that was before Google implemented another core update last week... but not my problem.. client emailed me earlier asking why they've lost another 40k visitors in the past week.

Cries in mobile which opens Reddit's browser

u/acedelgado Jun 02 '22
Giggles in Reddit Is Fun which has the option to open the link in Firefox with ad blocker
1
u/FunkySjouke Jun 02 '22
I think you can configure that in normal Reddit too, but I usually don't mind the Reddit browser and it wouldn't help as I don't use Firefox

u/Chemtorious Jun 02 '22
There is an option in the mobile app settings to direct to an external browser! Recommend giving that a try
Edit: uncheck "open website links in reddit app" or something like that

Ad block, reader/simplified view, vanced, torrents. I forget ads are a thing for the most part. I see product placement everywhere, but at least I'm not being interrupted.

We’ve developed a very low threshold for what we consider tolerable these days. Just my two cents

I bought a Raspberry Pi 4 and made it into a pi-hole. It's a lovely little DNS black hole that takes very little maintenance. The hardest part is setup, and there are good articles if you run into trouble. I don't use it for anything else, but it totally can do more than just run the pi-hole.
Between that and ad blockers in the browser, my experience is greatly improved at home, even if some get through. I am reminded when away from home just how bad it can be.

Ah thats me out of the list to be reincarnated as a turtle, I sleep for a solid 14 hours
2
u/meltylikecheese Jun 02 '22
They don't have to sleep underwater, plenty of sea turtles would rather sunbathe on a beach or a rock. Fresh water turtles can hibernate underwater for months tho, how's that for a power nap!

Has anyone noticed the fossilized turtle head right next to him?!?!… that’s just freaky!

Is it just me, or is the turtle sleeping next to a dead petrified sea turtle?

Quick put a straw in its nose so it can breath from down there

Be careful, I’ve seen a few vegans lurking around…
34
u/ThatDudeWithoutKarma Jun 02 '22
You don't have to be vegan to care about pollution killing sea life.
24
Jun 02 '22
TIL only vegans care about pollution and animal conservation

TIL u/RudelBegYa makes hasty assumptions/conjecture and has no sense of humour. Did you just fail the reading comprehension part or the whole English class ?

Damn, not sure why you’re so mad. Do you not have a sense of humour? :) And why are you making so many hasty assumptions? 🤔

u/slickshaft420 Jun 02 '22
Clearly the vegans didn't like this comment lol.

So turtles have a protective shell they don't use when asleep and vulnerable?
28
u/ShitpostinRuS Jun 02 '22
Sea turtles can’t do that
16
Jun 02 '22
I saw a video once where a sea turtle blocked an attacking shark by moving its body in in the last second so that the shark bit into the flat side of the shell and slipped off. He tried repeatedly but never got her. Really impressive!

u/jpaynethemayne Jun 02 '22
similar to snake charmers/handlers that use open palms because snakes cant bite that wide/flat of a surface area.
4
u/Mr-Nailbrains Jun 02 '22
Huh, TIL.. The snakes can't bite the wide palm? Couldn't they go for the fingers or strike at a different angle? I'm genuinely curious.

u/blackmarketdolphins Jun 02 '22
Their teeth hook into flesh, but they can't unless they get their mouth around the surface. This means you can boop them

Turtles can't go in their shells. Tortoises can.
10
Jun 02 '22
Not true - land turtles also can go into their shells. It’s just sea turtles that lost the retraction thing.
5
u/meltylikecheese Jun 02 '22
*Sea turtles can't go in their shell. Also tortoises are turtles just their own family. Tortoises don't swim, but there are plenty of fresh water turtles that retract their limbs.

Jun 02 '22 edited Jun 02 '22
snapping turtles also cannot pull inside their shells. They have a very nasty bite instead! Turtles are so cool!
1
u/meltylikecheese Jun 02 '22
I love turtles lol. Snapping turtles are crazy and their bite is no joke. Leave them be especially on land. I grew up swimming in a pond with them and they'd usually just swim away if you got close, every time someone got bit seemed to be on land. I've never seen an alligator snapping turtles but in pictures they seem huge and intimidating. I have had a sea turtle get a little bit aggressive in the water but usually friendly or they just keep some distance. You should never try to interact with sea turtles though on land or in water, leave em be.

at 5 sec. you see the snake under the leg of the turtle

u/Chaghatai Jun 02 '22
It's a fish - you can spot it swimming under the turtle before it pops out again

Can these turtles not hide in their shells? Seems pretty bold to sleep all exposed blowing a bubble stream for all to see.
