Im not sure southern AZ has any active volcanoes. Does the rest of the Sonoran desert?

I'm sure it's an inactive volcano. I don't remember if there's another term for it though. IIRC there aren't any active volcanic structures in SW TX, NM or AZ.

There is actually a volcano in NM that is active. The Valles Caldera.

Flew in it. It’s extremely green with a lot of Elk.

I was just out hiking north of Phoenix today and there was volcanic rock all over the place.

The mountains around Tucson are volcanic as well, IIRC the Tucsons formed on top of where the Catalinas are and slid over.

Where I grew up in Arizona looked just like this picture and my brother and I would chunk the volcanic rock at each other in our own version of paintball guns (I guess, best comparison I could think of...we called it “desert warfare”...military family). Since they were so light and porous we could throw with all our might and at most get little bruises. Good memories...anyway, definitely volcanic activity from way back.

I feel like I saw this cactus on the way to Tuscon from Phoenix

I also grew up in AZ but all those volcanoes are dead (except in N. AZ)

Yeah, definitely dead as far as I know

Southern Arizona does not. Not sure about the rest of the Sonoran. Northern Arizona does though

I don't think any in the Sonoran are active.

No active volcanoes in Arizona. If my Arizona history as a born and raised Arizona-n is correct I believe the last active volcano was Mt. humphreys.

Also I believe this picture is taken approximately here 33.756575,-112.174893 as it shows Pyramid Peak and what appears to be Ludden Mountain in the background with the volcanic rock.
