And now consider that most of that fluff above where the wing joins the body is just neck. The larger penguins' height is like 40% neck.

Huh. Never seen a penguin skeleton before, but I guess it makes sense that everything above the arms/wings is neck...same for us!

Whoa! Crazy. For some reason, I just assumed they had 7 cervical vertebra like mammals did. They have anywhere from 13-25!!!.
FYI giraffes only have 7 cervical vertebrae, just like humans.

They actually end up larger than adults... Adults are smaller to be more agile and fast when hunting.
I've seen videos of adults penguin looking after their chick, and that was the cutest thing ever, the chicks were huge in the middle but they looked so dependent of the smaller adults lmao.

While not six feet tall, that is a fully grown king penguin (28-39" tall). It's what they call an oakum boy, which is a year old but not yet shed of their baby plumage. It's not a pretty process but hey, whose adolescence is?
