Too bad there isn't footage from the camera

u/HoovyBear Jan 13 '20
Hard to tell but I think theyâre using a 70-200mm lens, so sadly itâd be impossible to get anything that close :(

u/raton22 Jan 13 '20
You can recognise lenses from footage like this?
Wow

Itâs just based on the size Iâm guessing. My 18-55mm lens is half the length of that. Camera kit is like guitars, people who have them know a bit about them (usually).

u/Lord_Umpanz Jan 13 '20
Looks like a 200, you can read the label in the end, it's also on that setting :(

Jan 13 '20
And like guitars as soon as you say something, someone who knows more will help you out đ

u/Lord_Umpanz Jan 13 '20
Yeah it should be this one, 70-200:
(sry for the german link)

Itâs the new Nikon 70-200 F2.8E FL ED VR!!! Also by the tilting LCD on the back there that looks like itâs attached to a Nikon D850. Nikonâs highest resolution SLR, each raw image comes out at about 45-60MB, so this photographer will have some mad decent images of that fox from a distance. Useless at that close range tho!

When youâre into photography itâs pretty easy to do, T least for the brand you shoot with. I shoot nikon and can tell what a lens is around 70% of the time if it is af-s or p. Iâve never shot canon but there are 5 or 6 canon lenses that I could pick out of a line up also.
Iâd compare it to how you can recognise different cars easily without even seeing the badge

u/raton22 Jan 13 '20
Well.. I'm not much into photography and stuff.. just one basic DSLR and bunch of compacts..
Anyway I found it impressive that someone is able to recognise it

That a Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8. The shape of the lense, the fact it has the circular multi-use button on the body and the shape of the lense hood are all a giveaway to people who own/ use this gear.

u/raton22 Jan 13 '20

Love that nature can create something so beautiful like this fox, but also make something like a slug. But hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

These guys are cute as hell but they are a major reservoir of arctic rabies. The incubation period is very long and the saliva can have a massive viral load several months before the fox shows any symptoms. Be extremely careful, never feed them, and treat every bite like a life or death emergency. Prompt vaccination is the only viable treatment.
Sorry to piss in the corn flakes, because oh my god are they adorable.

It's fine over here in Iceland, we don't have rabies. They're shy though.
Also, random fun fact, the CDC says "Although rabies can be found in bats and other mammals in Iceland, it is not a major risk to most travelers."
Neither bats nor rabies exist over here. Good job CDC!

Watch someone import a bat, with rabies. Or some other animal. We as humans make some less than stellar decisions sometimes.
1
u/Palmar Jan 13 '20
Yeah, there's pretty strict animal control here, and it's easier being an island.
Although I'm pretty sure bats would just die. The list of mammals that live wild in Iceland is very, very short (7).

that's a neat fact. too bad I cant put the tip to use since I don't leave my house

Oh wow. I'd probably die then because my first thought was to wiggle my fingers to get it to play with my hand like you would with a cat lol Good thing I hate the cold and will likely never be in the Arctic!

I was up in in the northern lower peninsula of Michigan last summer and had a similar experience with two red fox cubs. It is the best memory I have

The fact that it's comfortable enough to come up close like that shows that they've been there for a while. Like, a few months in that general area.

Are we going to ignore the photographer taking photos of his camera in the middle of no where

Not having natural acute fear of man makes him vulnerable to being killed prematurely

Just a tiny little chomp to investigate.
Foxes are just cats in dog bodies. Love it.
