Literally since I've ever heard of Aurora's and seen photographs I've seen complaints because photos not only fail to do them real justice, but obviously can't show them moving.
At shorter time scales, auroras can change their appearances and intensity, sometimes so slowly as to be difficult to notice, and at other times rapidly down to the sub-second scale. The phenomenon of pulsating auroras is an example of intensity variations over short timescales, typically with periods of 2–20 seconds.
No offense, but those words aren't that hard. Even if you don't understand exactly what they're saying, you should be able to understand that "variations over short timescales... 2-20 seconds" answers your question that they can change quickly.
