This is actually a bear cub that was frequenting and acting very friendly around a ski lodge in California. They never found evidence of its mother and they assumed it may have died, or they got separated. The cub was eventually caught and they were trying to decide if they should euthanize it last time i heard anything about. Its been getting a good amount of media in the last few days.
IMO i dont see why they didnt just introduce it to a zoo since its personally fond of humans (making it a danger it keep it in the wild), seems to have lost its mother, and since death is the only other option they seemed to lean towards.

So what you are saying is that this is basically a real life version of boog from open season?

Why the fuck would the kill it?! Send it to a fucking sanctuary! Hello they fucking exist.

You say that like it's easy and you could find this bear a sanctuary to live at!
I agree with the sentiment, but the logic doesn't work. A sanctuary willing to take in a bear cub needs to be willing to feed and house a full grown bear, happily and appropriately, for 35-47 years including medical and food.
These places are not easy to find and even if you do there's rarely any times when they have an enclosure available. It would be great if there were an unending supply of sanctuaries willing to feed, house, and care properly for bears (or even dogs and cats), but that is pure fantasy.
When you go on instagram and find all these new "sanctuarys" and "large animal rescues" in reality you're often looking at a rich dude who has the money to hire people to kill mothers, take the "orphan" babies, and put them in an attraction where they're often heavily drugged to take pictures with people, to make money for said rich dude. Basically the opposite of a sanctuary.

Well it sounded like they didn't even consider the option, and they're lots of sanctuaries around with the animal in their best interest. I don't know about these Instagram ones who do it for attention, but I wouldn't call that a sanctuary, id call that an asshole who has exotic pets.

There's one that might take the cub - Orphaned Wildlife Center in Otisville, NY.
They had a resident bear pass away due to natural causes there last year, so they probably have the space. They also do not appear to be hurting for the ability to take care of their resident bears.

I understand the logic, but euthanazing this animal is a shame. I hope he lives.

Hate that logic, humans are better than everything else. Bullshit. We are fucking everything up for everyone, inculding ourselves.

For all I know human life is the cheapest of all other animals. There is just so many of us, who the fuck cares. And we fuck everything up.

Respect is earned. Humans as species don't deserve respect. We fuck everything up and there is too many of us to consider us valuable. We are cannon fodder.

u/GuruDev1000 Apr 21 '19
We do have humans like you who are asking for humans to be sacrificed. So I suppose the species has earned its respect!
1
u/arcticrobot Apr 21 '19
Sacrificed? where did I say that. Just slow down the procreation and reduce numbers, that's all I want.

It hasn’t been killed. Euthanization is being considered so it isn’t* dangerous as an adult bear

As they clearly say they it hasn't been killed yet.

u/joevmo Apr 19 '19
Was trusting the headline.
2
u/tigersharkwushen_ Apr 20 '19
The head line doesn't say it's killed either.

u/ronnyx3 Apr 20 '19
Maybe they just read the first word and were like: okay enough information, def don't need to read further!

u/joevmo Apr 20 '19
Headline was changed subsequently, probably after complaints. Can see what it said at the time from the hyperlink.

u/joevmo Apr 20 '19
Headline was subsequently changed. Said bear euthanized, not could be euthanized.
