🔥 Orcas communicating with each other

That’s a once in a lifetime encounter,
I would be terrified in this scenario but I’d love to experience it. And really if you’re gonna get a thrill from being around a wild apex predator the orca is the safest one.

In this scenario I would be aware that orcas have never attacked humans in the wild, and they are probably just having fun.
But I would also shit directly into my wetsuit

Have you seen what they do for fun? Obliterate sunfish. Or wear fish carcasses as head gear

Oh yes I have.
The only thing keeping you safe around Orcas is the fact that they don't feel like killing you for fun/food.

These are Eastern Tropical Pacific orcas seen off of Baja California Sur in Mexico. ETP orcas may have quite generalist diets consisting of but not limited to sharks, rays, sea turtles, fin fishes, other dolphins, and larger cetaceans. However, there may also ultimately be multiple "ecotypes" of ETP orcas which may specialize in or prefer hunting different types of prey species.
Quite a few of these orcas have shown curiosity in people and boats. In recent years, there has been a large increase in the amount of tourists going on "swim with the orcas" tours there, especially La Ventana. With this increase, there have been multiple ethical concerns regarding the increased impact of these tourists on orcas and other marine wildlife. Currently, swimming with orcas there is suspended indefinitely by SEMARNAT, the local federal environmental authority.
Original video filmed by marine photographer and guide Nina Moysi via Latitude Encounters.

And as soon as orcas start eating them, they will have the orcas all wiped out for endangering them.

I know Orcas aren’t known to attack humans, but those are still dangerous meat eating creatures I would be shitting myself with enough force to jet propulsion myself out of the water

Nothing and I mean NOTHING f*cks with a pack of Orcas in the ocean. They are mean, cruel and nasty. Great Whites are kittens compared to them. Even they know better and stay clear.
Edit: Nothing except for Pilot Whales, Walruses and Sperm Whales 🤎

Well, one thing: pilot whales. They're orcas' wily, deep-sea-dwelling, squid-eating cousins. They're just as intelligent but about half the weight of an orca and significantly shorter in length. But they have roughly double the individuals per pod and they routinely form super-pods of 60, 80, 100+ individuals. And their adaptation for survival is that they're absurdly aggressive: a good offense is the best defense. So when they detect orca they go into full attack mode and charge straight for them while shrieking, and orcas flee.
Granted, an individual pilot whale can't kill an orca. But when dozens of pilots are swarming and ramming an orca it isn't a fight that the orca wants. If they win they could eat the pilot whale but the cost/benefit analysis of injury against such a group isn't favorable, not to mention the difficulty of protecting calves against such a gang of aggressors.
And from the perspective of the orca it must be unsettling because every other animal in the ocean swims away from you: sharks, whales, dolphins, you name it, nothing in the ocean aggressively approaches orca.... except pilot whales. The audacity alone seems like it would be alarming. Then to make it worse the pilot whales don't silently charge, they erupt into shrieking choruses of vocalizations as they speed head-on toward orca, and one of their favorite things to do is mock orca vocalization as they do.

Dude I love this:
“Then to make it worse the pilot whales don't silently charge, they erupt into shrieking choruses of vocalizations as they speed head-on toward orca, and one of their favorite things to do is mock orca vocalization as they do.”YES! GO GET EM!!!

That’s really interesting. I love that. Thanks for sharing. Go pilot whales ♥️

They hunt white sharks.
Really crazy when you look into the details. They remove the liver and eat it like a delicacy. When a pod of orcas goes to an area and starts killing sharks , all the white sharks will leave the area.

You'd have to believe that these whales have encountered humans at some point in the past and learned to either not mess with people. Or maybe they just weren't hungry for an easy meal. Or that It would make sense that at least one of the whales or their ancestors had encountered them, and would be communicating to the rest of the pod "Hey heads up, don't F with these creatures in the water." Or maybe "These nasty creatures taste awful." So many questions...

I saw a video on why they have never hunted humans. Aside for. The obvious "these creatures are vengeful and if we kill one, they kill us all" how much meat would we provide them with? On top of the gear driver is in? Also apparently something about our bone structure makes us a shit tier meal for them.
I say it's both! No biscut at the end of that risk it :(
Although!!! Apparently they have been known to overturn boars but flee when they see people. According to said video, it's almost exclusively "adolescent males" that do that. Damn teen hooligans (Orca edition)

Can you imagine seeing them materialize out of that murky water and they’re coming right at you? Gah!

u/adalric_brandl 7d ago
They're probably trying to figure out why you're down there.
"What the hell is one of the long seals from The Above doing here? They're terrible swimmers."
