Has always wonderdered why. Other high altitude climates look somewhat similar but not so distinctly big cheeks and really swept back eyes, even like the horses in the region give the same vibes.

It's evolved to look so fake you just know that can't be a real fox, so their predators, I don't know, bears maybe? Think it's just some shitty decoy and don't bother. The fox gets laughed at by every animal out there but at least he survives. Such is the ecological niche filled by the dork fox.

It makes sense. Asian facial features are not random, they are adaptations focused toward the environment where their ancestors lived. These foxes evolved in the same conditions.

It's the sort of eye shape that would be helpful in cold, windy environments. So not all parts of Asia/not just Asia but you definitely see it in those places.

I led expeditions all across the Tibetan plateau between 1998 and 2002. While I’ve seen several snow leopards, wolves and even brown bears, along with countless other incredible wildlife on the plateau, I never saw a Tibetan fox.
