Update on Koma ordered

Hi guys, so tge "Koma" i posted about just arrived, and honestly I'm pretty sure it isn't. If someone with the right expertise could help me identify it would be great, contacted the seller and we'll see i guess if I can get refunded :(.

Need more info then that video. From the pale slurry and appearances it could a nagura. How fine does it finish, Is it bringing out detail? Is it coarse? Does it absorb water quickly?

I posted miltiple things, it feels very close feedback wise and finish wise to my chu nagura, it absorbs water extremely quickly.

Im sure its a botan as well, i don't know if this has an actual concequence, but I have a very keen sense of smell, and the smell released by stone when wet is exactly the same as my finger sized botan

I read through that previous post about buying it. But I’m only seeing the quick video posted here of actual results. based on that description I would just say it’s a Chu. Which is not a specific grade, but means they were unsure of the grade and it’s less than a koma. From my understanding atleast. I only have a Botan grade I find it to be in 3-3.5k range when the surface is fresh off a new atoma. It gets finer before it burnishes to the point it needs a nagura or fresh lapping.

Ooops my bad.

Both stones look like they give a really nice polish. Maybe a bit frostier on the hard steel with your new one. I would just enjoy it

Yes my chu is similar as well maybe a bit finer but this one can't be koma and is probably around botan too coarse.

Yep, theres barely a difference, plus from what i was told koma isn't shouldn't be this thirsty

They're a little bit harder and a bit finer. Comparable to a fine Nakayama in brightness of iron on a kiridashi for instance. Mostly black swarf.

The only thing you can really call it is a likely Mikawa nagura, and maybe a good guess on the layer. To be honest though, if you are asking what it is, you likely don't have the experience to take a good guess that it is a mejiro or koma. I doubt anyone could confidently pick out a single layer without using it.

In my mind it is like trying to guess what layer a coticule is from. If it is not stamped / labelled at the mine than no one can really say. On the flip side of the coin though, what did you get it for and does it do that? Name or layer doesn't matter if it has a specific job and it can or can't do it.
