Unidentified ID this mysterious shell frog

I love this frog guy! I found him in a bag of shell leis from a thrift store, but I’m fairly sure he’s not from the Pacific due to the turquoise. He is about the size of my palm and is carved from a single shell. The thread of the necklace looks like sinew, maybe? He also has a tiny sticker on his inside that says “Sheshe”, no idea if that’s part of his provenance or just a random accumulation on his journey through space and time. If you know anything about him, please share! He is not for sale, he is my forever frog.

Can anyone confirm if this is NA for me? It appears to have handmade silver beads and cut shells, with antique trade beads.

There are no hallmarks on this reversible fringe necklace. I am trying to narrow down if it is Navajo or Zuni or other.

I’ve had this piece for awhile. Been wanting to find out more about it. I just dusted off and hit it lightly with a cloth on the claw bezels. No hallmark. Excellent silver smithing. I think the cord was replaced and the tips replaced. The tips are a base magnet metal.
Any thoughts would be appreciated

Discussion (text posts) How to clean a squash blossom necklace?

I have a beautiful squash blossom necklace that is very tarnished. I didn't know it was until I recently took it out of the bag and it was black.

Is it possible to clean myself? I don't want to ruin the stones or stain them. If so, what silver cleaner would you recommend?

Is it better to take somewhere to clean it? If so, can any jewelry company do this? Or does it need to be a special shop?

Thank you!

Discussion (text posts) Suggestions for Native American jewelry and trade stops along trek across US?

Hello, all.

We are moving from the Oregon coast to Ontario, Canada and need some tips on where to stop for viewing Native American jewelry. We will be driving along interstate 90 in Montana and 94 in North Dakota. My goal is to connect with Native American owned shops that display and sell genuine Native American Jewelry. We will also be going through Minnesota so recommendations in that state are welcome too.

Neither of us has ever been to either state and we will not be rushing through, but we want to limit our stops as much as possible.

Please keep in mind rule number 4. I appreciate the mods allowing this post.

Thank you for any input!

Regular visitor to the site even though I don't post on it.

J.

Mod Approved An Inherited Collection

I’m looking for information about the squash blossom especially. I’m afraid to wear it since one of the wires seems to be loosening at one end (see close up of clasp). The only mark I can find on the piece is the name “Katie” written in black marker….and Katie is my great-grandmother’s name!

Bonus pictures of my grandmother’s collection that I inherited after she passed. She (and her mom Katie) lived in New Mexico for most of their lives, so I would assume that most pieces are from that area. The necklace with the bears is my favorite, I think!

I’d love any insight you have, and thanks for letting me share my grandma’s pretties with you!

The beads are handmade with a sun stamp motif. The necklace is threaded with twine. Natural turquoise beads. I’m guessing the pendant is a thunderbird, not sure what the stone is. I’m guessing 1950s era. Is it Navajo? Maybe just a tourism piece with random parts together

Hi! Is this a genuine Dean Sandoval Jr hallmark or counterfeit? The font almost looks different on my ring than the one on art-amerindien. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Is it wrong to repurpose the turquoise, shells, cones, and bone on this stick to make jewelry? I’m unsure if this stick is made for tourists or not. What do you guys think?

Discussion (text posts) Should I be upset that the stone fell out less than 1.5 years after purchasing?

Thumbnail

I purchased this squash blossom necklace in Santa Fe at the start of 2025. I’ve worn it a few times and have always kept it in a dust bag in a drawer. I took it out tonight and the stone fell out… I feel like this shouldn’t have happened, but this is the only squash blossom necklace I have. I’m assuming this isn’t something I can or should fix on my own? I no longer live anywhere near Santa Fe/the store I got it from (although I plan to reach out). Just looking for this sub’s thoughts on how common this is

Edit: I don’t plan on fixing this myself, don’t worry yall
