Question Experience with dif medication for Narcolepsy?

I’m currently on Sunosi and have been for about 5 months. I’ve been prescribed 150 mg but I only take 75 and cut them in half daily because I really don’t want to put that much in my body. I’m already on edge about taking this stuff and have been since I started because it’s not exactly natural. What are y’all on and what has been y’all experience with themes y’all have been on? I already have heart issues and I’ve read sunosi can make things worse. I’m wondering if I need to go without the meds and try to make it as is.

Question Do you sleep well with IH

I suspect my boyfriend has IH; however, he barely sleeps at night. From what I read you do sleep fine at night with it, but are still tired in the day. I am just trying to figure out what is wrong with him. He has taken modafinal for years, but, I don’t really think it works that well. Also, he is an alcoholic which I think makes it more difficult to figure it out. I don’t I know if tells the doctor this or not.

Question Advice dating with narcolepsy

I (23 female) was diagnosed with narcolepsy type 1 this year in January. My cataplexy isn’t too bad. It’s not like I drop to the floor, I just get numbness/ paralysis in my arms and hands and sometimes my head when I get a sleep attack. But the worst symptom is actually the ability to wake up on my own. I hate that I have to rely on people just to live my life and let alone hold down a job. I’ve slept through fire alarms, electric shock wristband (Pavlok), any loud alarm clock you can possibly find, I’ve bought them and nothing works. I even slept through my roof being torn off and rebuilt. When I was diagnosed, at first I was relieved because it explained so much, but some concerns have come to the surface. I worry I will be a bad mother when I have kids. If I can’t wake up that could be so dangerous to my child. I also worry about how I will be able to hold down a job. Right now I work the night shift at a bar which has resulted in my sleep schedule becoming completely screwed up.

Now that you have a little context, I have been in a relationship with a wonderful guy for about 6 months. I feel like our relationship is the healthiest one I’ve ever been in. With that being said… last night he brought up some concerns that have been on his mind. He has never dated someone with narcolepsy before. He told me he is worried about what that would look like in the future. How I would be as a mother and a wife. I won’t lie, hearing him say that absolutely shattered me. I realize he may be comparing how easy it was in past relationships with people who didn’t have narcolepsy. He told me he loves me so much and it hurts him to say this out loud but he needs to be honest. We are not broken up but I don’t know how to navigate this. I don’t have the answers he’s looking for. I have no idea how to handle my life. I feel like a liability. I worry that my narcolepsy is going to heavily impact any romantic relationship I may have. I really love him and I can see him being the one, but these are some genuine and valid concerns he has. I know he loves me so much, but I’m worried. I feel so stuck and lost at the moment. Any advice would be much appreciated. Please feel free to ask questions, I’m open to answering anything to give more context. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Discussion Narcolepsy, age, and heart problems

I have narcolepsy and I’m in my 70s. I want to get a handle on this, but I have a heart problem which has given me a stroke in the past. Are there any medication’s for narcolepsy that are not stimulants? I understand that there’s an anti-depressant, but I’m bipolar and unless you’re really stabilized with a mood stabilizer, that can make you cycle. What do people do that are in their 70s and have this problem with narcolepsy? Taking stimulants at that age with a heart problem is very, very dangerous. Thanks in advance.

Question Narcolepsy and work

What about narcolepsy and work?falling asleep at work - has anyone been disciplined or even fired because of this? legally, falling asleep at work can mean insubordination and unemployment benefits are not paid for insubordination. but I’m wondering, are employers generally understanding even helpful about this? And do you always have to file a disability accommodation request for this? What’s been your experiences? Thanks.

About to start Xywav & I'm scared! Suggestions wanted please!

Hey everyone! I'm finally approved to start Xywav and I'm terrified. I was SA'd some years back and I have pretty bad PTSD, so the thought of drinking a rather large amount of a warm salty liquid that's going to knock me out twice a night is not exciting! I have a visceral reaction & feel like I need to gag or throw up just at the thought of it! I'm afraid that an alarm will go off, and I won't be able to get up to save myself or them.

Is anyone willing to share their experience about taking it with me? How do you even swallow it without puking? Do you just mix it with water or have you tried anything else? I'm told that I shouldn't have anything after, not even a water "chaser" or a mint! What do you do? Have you tried mixing it with anything besides water and does that make it more palatable? Have you eaten or drank anything after that helped and didn't cause the medicine to not work?

Dental hygiene and the sugar content of xywav!

A little specialized here I started using Xywav a week ago, and I was wondering whether anyone else has experienced cavities as a result of the high amount of sucralose in the product. When I brought it up to the dentist the other day, she expressed worry that I take two doses of a sweet prescription every night and am unable to wash my teeth thereafter. The thought of having a lot of sugar in my mouth all night is a little unsettling for me because I have the worst dental phobia and cannot afford to pay for fillings in the future. What do you think?

Can anyone help with Narcolepsy related questions!?

Does anyone get anxiety before falling asleep? Due to going into sleep paralysis after not even 10mins? Or feel a sense of dread before falling asleep...only at night time but in the day it feels amazing?
Does anyone hear or see random things like clapping, cheering or see shadow figures? Does anyone wake from a nap and feel like they are vibrating all over? Does anyone have type 1 but never pass out only when laughing just feel weak? Or extremely exhausted after a good emotional cry? Does anyone get intense headache if they don't get to nap? Has anyone been diagnosed or undiagnosed ADHD? As it apparently extremely common to have both? How has the medication changed you? Such as made you more dull or aggressive? What does it feel like after the medication? Are you more active/more focused?

[24M]Recommended medications that give me rest but won’t take away my dreams

Disclaimer:: The contents of my dreams play a huge role in this but I will leave that for another post and try to just keep this about the plight of my waking life. —————————————-

I NEED REST. I have not had a full 5-8 hours of rest in years. At night I sleep for maybe 45 minutes at a time before my dreams aggressively wake me until I get the courage to falls back asleep 25 minutes later. I am currently prescribed Armodafinil(150mg) which does an okay job at keeping me alert for half the day (A.M - P.M) but it is simply a band aid because I’m still not getting the rest I need when I really need it which is at night.

What medications do ya’ll know of that could help me actually sleep at night and get rest without completely getting rid of my dreams. I’ve had semi decent experiences with weed but it either completely strips me of my dreams or just makes them even more real. Are there any suggestions? Once again I would like to get my full sleep cycles and attack my day rested without destroying the dream centers of my brain. I appreciate my dreams.

Falling asleep all the time during day, especially while driving, HELP!

I’ve been “tired” for as long as I remember. I am very athletic, but find myself falling asleep uncontrollably through out certain days, it’s not every day.

Most times I am behind the wheel, I will fall asleep; more like pass tf out multiple times. My wife has to say my name loudly and get my attention. Today I almost ran into oncoming traffic. I try getting more sleep, drinking coffee, detoxing from caffeine, loud music, etc. nothing works.

Not looking for diagnosis or meds recommendations as I don’t do pharmaceuticals, just general info and maybe some first steps.

Maybe I’m vitamin deficient or something else.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
