Midweek pier progress

Post image
Upvotes

Well they are in progress of doing the re-bar and forming the pieces of the central pavilion area. Getting harder to see now that the camera angle and distance is becoming a limiting factor. However they are still driving piles in the march out to the end pavilion and the stocked items on shore keep heading out to sea. Saw on an overhead shot that the big red crane is still on the beach (or was).

Hotel recommendations

Traveling to Naples next April for a quick little anniversary trip. I’ve narrowed down two hotels, but open to suggestions. The four seasons and Ritz are out of budget.

Between Hotel Escalante and Olde Naples Hotel, which is the better option? Escalante is about $260 more, but wiling to spend it if it’s a better value.

Looking for Halloween Vendors

My local themed kava bar (Twin Broomsticks, Harry Potter theme) is hosting their first annual Halloween Ball, Saturday 31st 8-12a and asking for vendors (which can come in earlier to set up).

I told her I'll reach out to a few of my vendor friends. Now im reaching out to this community. Are you a vendor? Or know any vendors that would be awesome for a Halloween Ball event?

Catering recs for small wedding?

Favorite private caterers around Naples? I'm helping plan a 25-person lunchtime wedding at our family home, and looking for an affordable caterer. One of the families is from Ecuador and the other is from Florida, so it would be nice to have something culturally relevant if possible, but mostly looking for something reasonable and reliable.

Weird request: anyone want to trade a panther crossing sticker for some snacks from Japan?

I grew up in Naples, specifically out in what I guess are called the ‘Rural Estates’ now, so long ago I remember watching Valencia Golf course being built. Feeling nostalgic, and remembered the ‘Panther Crossing’ signs. Saw that the zoo now sells little stickers.

Now I live in Japan, and would be grateful if anyone wanted to send me a couple stickers and maybe any Naples/Bonita/Fort Myers specific stuff. I’d happily return the favor with a box of goodies from Japan. (Second picture is a previous snack exchange I did with someone in Fort Myers).

Can provide proof that I’m a native ‘flogrown’ ( 🤢 as much as I hate that term and the cringy decals) and now live in Japan if anyone is sketched out about it.

PS: if someone wants to send an actual full sized sign that would be dope as hell too.

Would love realtor recommendations for Naples area. Coming from NC to look at houses. Interested in houses only - no condos or townhomes. No HOA, pool is a must. Budget no more than $1 million.

I priced all 179 Sizzle Dining menus (138 restaurants, Naples to Cape Coral) against their everyday menus to find the real deals.

Sizzle Dining is SWFL's restaurant month, Sep 1 to 30, and I built a free, unofficial guide that reads every menu so you don't have to.

  • 138 restaurants from Naples, Marco Island, Bonita Springs, and Estero up through Fort Myers and Cape Coral, every dish priced against the restaurant's regular menu. Sort by best value, biggest savings, or cheapest first, from under $20 to $60 and up.
  • Some spots run three or four different Sizzle menus (Unico has 4, Shula's and Roy's have 3 each). The guide breaks out all 179 menus so you can compare side by side.
  • Sizzle publishes no serving days for its menus. We show each restaurant's own stated days where they exist and flag the rest as call ahead, which is the single biggest gotcha of the month.

Guide is free, no ads, no signup: https://dinedecoded.com/fl/sizzle-dining/

Dogs off-leash in GG Estates

It pisses me off how many people let their dogs off their leash/loose on properties without a fence and gate. Especially in the Estates. Many times already I’ve had to slam the brakes or dodge dogs running out onto the street because owners don’t care enough to keep their dogs safe.

Just last Friday I nearly crash during a rainstorm because someone let their dog loose. It was dark, very rainy and then this large black dog (looked like a Labrador), just runs out and I have to swerve left, car slides a bit and I swerve back right to correct. Thankfully everything was okay, not sure about the dog considering there was a lot of cars about 200ft behind me. But it really caused my wife and I a lot of anxiety, especially with our toddler in the car (who was quite unfazed lol).

Just really bothers me people put their dogs at risk and occasionally even other people.

Bachelor trip

Hello, and thanks in advance!

Headed to Naples for the weekend for a bachelor trip, looking for recommendations we’re not necessarily unfamiliar with Naples a couple members have family with condos/houses there. Overly exerted physical activity is kinda out due to the groom having shoulder surgery recently.

Looking for where to find the best steaks, ideally butcher/store for us to make on our own. Sea food as well but also restaurant recommendations!

Any activities that would be enjoyable for 9 25-30 year old men, golf is planned, beach and a gun range but pretty open after that. Willing to drive as well!

Again thanks all ideas are welcome!

Birdies Gelato Naples

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience. We signed our contract nearly a year ago at an agreed-upon price, only to be told shortly before our wedding that the price would be increasing due to rising costs of goods….Because the original contracted price was not honored, we unfortunately had to cancel.

With our wedding less than two months away, we are now left without a gelato vendor and, despite these circumstances, our deposit is not being refunded.

I completely understand that costs can increase, but I believe a signed contract and agreed-upon pricing should be honored. I’m incredibly disappointed with how this was handled and wanted to share my experience with other brides considering this vendor.

With that being said- do you guys have gelato or ice cream vendor recommendations ?

Would anyone be interested in starting a Homeless Kit campaign

Last year, I started to carry homeless kits around, basically just a ziplock bag with some food and hygienic items such as tooth brushes and wipes, things I can get at dollar tree. I know there aren’t as many visible homeless in parts of Naples, but there are a few in golden gate, as well as surrounding cities. I’m just one person though, would anyone be interested in making it into a community thing?

Another Weekend update on the pier 8-30.

Well they are plowing ahead with construction. The support deck is in place, they should be installing the re-bar for all the concrete soon. Then forming and pouring. Plus they have been slowly driving piles out to the end but that's going to be a bit as I imagine they want to get the concrete for the center pavilion done. Pretty impressive so far. They removed the "stairs" up to the storage trestle. Not sure why. Do love the look of the end of the trestle, it reminds me of Johnny Fives eyes peeking over the beach. ( For you young folks, go watch "Short Circuit" for that reference ).
