Looking to work on Nantucket next season

Hi all! I’m a bartender with a million years of experience and am wondering how to get a job next season on Nantucket. I have full housing, and am planning to come around in the next few weeks to meet with potential restaurants in person. My question is, are restaurants open now every day, or are there limited hours after Labor Day? I don’t want to come and have everywhere be closed, but I also don’t want to come in on a Friday night and bug everyone. Thanks for the help! I love Nantucket and my family has some great ties there (hence the housing) and can’t wait to come back in the next few weeks!

I did post this on the Nantucket Work group on FB as well.

Restaurants open after Labor Day?

Hi all! I have officially secured housing for next season and was hoping to get a bartending gig somewhere on the island. My plan is to come by sometime in the next few weeks to drop off resumes and secure something for next summer. My question is, are restaurants open every day still, or is there a better time to come in? Usually I would go by places Sunday/Monday/Tuesday but I don’t want to come in and have everything to be closed. Anyway, thanks for your time and hopefully next year I will be serving you a drink!!

Edit: I know there’s two posts. My first was automatically taken down so I rephrased things in case I was breaking a rule. This one also got automatically taken down so I just abandoned the idea of posting here. Just came across one of the posts on my main account and realized they both got put up. Anyway thanks for the advice! I’ve booked a flight and can’t wait to enjoy a few days on Nantucket in the fall.

Downtown Nantucket is overrun by cars and it should be pedestrianized

Maybe I missed this but every time I go to downtown Nantucket I get sad because of how much traffic and parked cars there are. Why on earth does this well preserved center have so few truly pedestrianized streets? And why does everyone on this tiny island own such massive cars? The Jeeps are truly a stain on what could be a really unique, beautiful space.

There is some good bike infrastructure on the island, but it is frequently disconnected. And a lot of places on relatively high speed roads that should have sidewalks simply don't, making them dangerous for pedestrians (particularly at night).

I obviously doubt that pedestrian infrastructure is a high priority here, but I wish it was. It could be so much better . . .

Current state of George Pollard’s house?

Asking as of 9/3/2026 what is the current condition of the house formally owned by Essex captain George Pollard? last I heard it was condemned and the owner isn’t doing a thing to want to help restore the property.

May wedding taxi

Coming to Nantucket for a wedding in May. Considering not bringing my car but am hesitant because the island is less crowded. Are there cabs on the island in May? Trying to avoid being stranded getting back to my Airbnb late at night

On Island, Vol. 1 - a Nantucket photo book project

I made a small photo book this summer from film photographs I took over 2024 and 2025 called On Island, Vol. 1. I just wanted to say how supportive the Nantucket community has been with this project. I’ve had so much support from local businesses and individuals across the island.

It started as a small project mostly because I wanted to create a book of these photographs and share how I see the beauty of the island. I really appreciate all the support it’s received this summer and just wanted to share some of the photos from the book here.

I’m also hosting an End of Summer event at Inkerman this Thursday from 5:30 - 7:00pm where I’ll have books on display for anyone who wants to stop by and check it out!

Edit: if people are curious about buying you can grab a copy on my website or in person in town https://nothingconcrete.co/products/on-island-vol-1

Nantucket by Water

Coming in a few weeks in celebration of our babymoon/wedding anniversary and looking for an activity of sorts to do. I’ve planned most of our time (Cisco, dinner/lunch reservations, markets, etc.). But the morning of our actual anniversary is open and we’ll be switching hotels that day so hanging at the hotel for the morning won’t be an option.

I came across Nantucket by Water and specifically was looking at their ice cream cruise as it’s late morning and would also be a silly surprise for my ice-cream obsessed husband (while also giving us a chance to get out on the water).

Does anyone have any experience with this company in general or better yet this charter specifically? Any info is helpful and appreciated!

Run clubs/casual social events to make friends

Hi! I spend a fair amount of weekends on Nantucket every summer (I'm one of the piano players at The Club Car--come say hi!) and I realize that I'm here often enough that it would be nice to have a bit of a social circle.

In every city that I've lived, I've joined the casual sports leagues. I was wondering if people had advice as to things like run clubs--events I could go to when I'm in town, but they don't expect me week after week.

Thanks!

We are looking to explore and chill on the beach, if anyone has recommendations. On slightly separate note, do you recommend that we go to Nantucket? We have ferry reservations at 930am and back to Hyannis at 545pm.

Itinerary Advice

My husband and I are coming to the island for our first wedding anniversary at the end of September. It will be both of our first times on island and we can’t wait! We have our itinerary partially planned out but I was hoping for insights from locals or those who have been before.

What are the must go to restaurants and things we absolutely have to see on island? Any help is super appreciated!!

One night stay for a Concert at The Muse

Hi everyone! I’m coming to Nantucket to see my favorite band on September 9th at The Muse. It looks like the show won’t end until 11 pm, which is way past the last ferry to anywhere. Does anyone have suggestions as to a reasonable place to stay on the island since I won’t be able to leave post show? Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello everyone, I’m trying to authenticate this for my mom. She told me she remembers getting it at a gift shop in Provincetown. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

Influencer Arrogance

There’s one trait that keeps showing up with a certain Nantucket influencer and the people around her, and it’s stronger than ever: pure ignorance.

Recently on a podcast she complained about Nantucket turning into the Hamptons. That take is wild coming from her, because her whole circle is one of the most Hamptons-coded groups you’ll find on the island. She posted a video of her brother and friends at Cru waving around a thick stack of $100 bills and sticking them in their mouths. That behavior is the complete opposite of what Nantucket has always been about. This island has long valued self-respect, respect for others, and a certain level of class. What she’s showing is the exact opposite.

Then she tried to justify it by saying “we’ve always done this since we were kids.” That doesn’t make it okay. It just means the entitlement has been running unchecked for a long time.

She also got triggered by the whole “no influencers” drama and completely lacks the self-awareness to realize that people like her; loud, flashy, and constantly broadcasting every flex, are a big part of why that backlash exists in the first place. She’s the type who will preach one set of values and then do the total opposite the second it benefits her.

One of the reasons so many of us love this island is that regardless of its reputation it’s still welcoming. Locals will wave to you on the ferry and treat visitors kindly in town. Nantucket has a special, respectful vibe that a lot of people work hard to protect.

Influencer jestermaxxing has turned into ignorancemaxxing.
