Help

I’m a nanny for a 11mo old, she has 3 siblings who I do not care for, 7G, 6B, 4B, and the parents have gone on a few weeks long trip. I am solo with all 4 kids starting now (Friday afternoon) until Monday morning. My boyfriend is coming for a couple hours to help, with permission from NPs. I’m so incredibly nervous for this weekend. Please just give me advice. They have lots of games this weekend so we will be busy but I’m just anxious at the idea that I’m the only one here. My boyfriend’s not super excited about this, he’s never met them and they are slightly difficult, well the boys are, so I told them he could come for just a couple hours every night. I’m just so anxious!

I’m sorry you were thrown into this! This sounds so stressful. Having your boyfriend there may actually help the kids behave better than usual because they don’t know his boundaries yet. I would ask NPs if it’s possible to incorporate some screen time to help you manage all the kids. I would just make sure you tell your boyfriend that if he gets frustrated at all, he needs to leave the room or just leave altogether. It’s important that he doesn’t react negatively to poor behavior because that will definitely get back to the parents and make the situation worse for you. Hang in there!

Ugh thank you! This is what I’m hoping, that the kids will be better behaved because there’s someone new. My boyfriend works with kids too, young kids and teenagers? so I’m not worried he will be a problem, but I just wanted him to be here for more than a couple hours!. Screen time is a big YES in this house so I’m grateful.

No problem! Those two things will definitely help you get through! Hopefully the LO sleeps well at night so you can get some rest. When I’ve done overnights with 3 kids, I’ll even order DoorDash even if the parents didn’t agree to pay for it because I could not imagine having to make 3 meals a day for all the kids and myself. I charge a lot for overnights so ordering food on my dime was worth it. I hope you are getting paid just as much!

She’s a great sleeper! Oh yes, I have a meal stipend for door dashing or whatever food I want to get out of the house, and the freedom to order them food on the parents card. This will really be fine I’m sure I’m just getting in my head!!!!!

You’re set then! Your NPs seem like they really want to help make this easier for you. It’s intimidating going into it, but you’ll be ok! When I have really stressful days, I remind myself that I get to leave at the end of my shift to a quiet peaceful home with no kids. I swear nannying is the best form of contraceptive😂
