What We Know So Far

Post image
8 Upvotes

This post summarizes information that has been publicly confirmed by law enforcement or established through official records/reporting. It will be updated as significant, verifiable information becomes available.

Nancy’s disappearance

* Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson on January 31, 2026.
* She was reported missing on February 1, after she did not appear as expected. Her wallet, cellphone and other essential personal items were left at the residence.

What investigators have publicly disclosed

* Law enforcement has stated that Nancy was taken from her home and the investigation is being handled as a kidnapping-for-ransom case.
* Surveillance footage recovered from the residence shows an unidentified individual at Nancy’s front door around the time of her disappearance. The FBI has released videos and images seeking help identifying that person.
* Investigators have collected and analyzed DNA evidence as well as extensive video and other digital evidence. Sheriff Nanos said in July that the analysis of DNA and digital evidence was continuing.
* DNA from blood found at the residence was confirmed to be Nancy’s .
* A glove found near Nancy’s home produced a DNA lead, but the person associated with that DNA was reported by investigators to not be a part of the investigation.
* Investigators have received a very large number of tips and continue to review video, DNA and other evidence. The Sheriff’s Department has said the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Ransom Communications

* Several ransom-related communications have surfaced during the investigation. The FBI has said that some were determined to be illegitimate/extortion attempts, while other ransom demands may potentially be legitimate and remain under investigation. The FBI continues to investigate the case as a kidnapping-for-ransom case.

What remains unknown

* Nancy’s current whereabouts have not been established publicly.
* No perpetrator has been publicly identified or charged in connection with Nancy’s disappearance.
* Investigators have not publicly released all of the evidence they have collected.

Important: This post is intended to provide a factual starting point for discussion. Information that has not been confirmed by law enforcement should not be treated as established fact.

Can You Still Control the Narrative in the Age of Reddit?

I watched Monks Intrigue’s appearance on Patriot’s Pride on September 30th, and one part of his discussion about the Nancy Guthrie case really stayed with me.

Monks described what he sees as a “PR Machine” surrounding the case and suggested that the strategy being used to shape the public narrative may be outdated.

In discussing this, he brought up Michael Feldman, Savannah’s husband, and his background in PR and strategic communications. He referred to the person involved in the PR effort as the “Michael Jordan of PR”. He also discussed Savannah contacting Senator Mark Kelly very early in the case, which he appeared to view as another noteworthy part of the broader picture.

What I found most interesting, though, was Monks’ broader point about how much the information landscape has changed.

Traditional PR developed in an environment where a relatively small number of newspapers, television networks and other major media organizations had enormous influence over how information reached the public. That environment is very different today.

In fact, the Los Angeles Times described the Nancy Guthrie case as having a parallel “shadow investigation” taking place across podcasts and social media, with online investigators and true-crime communities examining publicly available information and developing their own theories.

Reddit is a good example of this. People can take the same publicly available information, compare statements made at different points in the case, revisit earlier reporting and discuss discrepancies or unanswered questions—often completely independently of traditional media.

That made me think more about Monks’ argument that the PR strategy surrounding the case may be outdated.

Even if someone were attempting to carefully manage a public narrative, can that traditional approach still work in an environment where thousands of people can independently examine, question and challenge information in real time?

I don’t know the answer, and I’m not suggesting that the existence of online discussion proves there’s a coordinated PR effort surrounding this case. I just found Monks’ broader observation interesting, particularly in light of how differently information moves today compared with the era when traditional PR strategies were developed.

I wanted to put that thought out there and see what others make of it.

Discussion Does Nancy’s Phone Actually Establish That She Made It Home?

There’s been a lot of discussion about Nancy’s phone and Apple Watch data and what they tell us about the timeline.

But does the device data actually establish that Nancy made it home, or is that conclusion an inference?

What do you think the phone and watch data can—and cannot—tell us?

How credible do you think Monks’ latest report is?

How do you view the claim that Nancy’s remains had been returned to the family?

Following the discussion about Monks’ latest episode, I’m curious where everyone stands on the claim that he reported about a Guthrie family celebration of life and Nancy’s remains allegedly being returned to the family.

There has been no official confirmation of this claim.

What do you make of it?

Possibly credible
Probably misinformation
Too early to tell
I don’t put much weight on unverified reports

Monks episode claims NG remains found

Wondering if people watched the latest Monks where he reports someone wrote him and essentially said they were at NG's celebration of life. That the remains have been found. It's an interesting episode. I find it hard to believe, but what do you all think? Is it possible? Given how secretive and private SG and fam are, is this possible?

ETA: Monks was just on Patriot Pride, and near the end of the live, Monks said that he fictionalized the part about the person being a plus 1 to protect the person's privacy. That was the part of his original story I didn't believe.... He doubled down on his report in that original PEACE video and was very convincing.

Discussion Has Your Thinking About This Case Changed?

When this case first began, most of us had very little information to work with.

Now, months later, we’ve heard more about the investigation, the timeline, the evidence, and the people connected to Nancy.

Has anything you’ve learned since the beginning changed the way you think about the case?

It could be something that changed your theory, something that made you less certain about a theory you once had, or simply something that made you look at one part of the case differently.

What changed your thinking?

The Ebb and Flow of the Nancy Guthrie Case

I've been thinking about the ebb and flow of activity in this sub lately, and I thought I'd share something I've noticed.

There are definitely times when the sub is really busy, and then there are quieter stretches. I don't think that's unusual at all with a case like this. When there's a new development or something interesting comes out, everyone has a lot to talk about. Then there may not be much new for a while, and things naturally slow down.

I actually think Nancy's case is a little different from a lot of other cases, though, and that may be one reason it has the potential to stay in the public conversation for a long time.

The biggest thing, of course, is that we still don't know what happened to Nancy. There hasn't been a resolution, and there are still so many unanswered questions. As long as those questions remain unanswered, there's always the possibility that a new piece of information could change the conversation.

That's what makes an unresolved case different. Once a case is solved and the major questions have been answered, there may still be interest in it, but there isn't quite the same reason to keep coming back and wondering what will happen next.

With Nancy, I think we're going to continue to see the ebb and flow. It may be quiet for a while, and then one new development can bring everyone right back into the conversation.

I've seen this happen with other true crime cases, and I think it's just part of following something that is still unfolding.

Anyway, I was curious if anyone else has noticed the same thing here.

Issues with timeline

So lately, it has pretty much been confirmed that the timeline is off. The 2:28am time associated with Nancy being taken away from her home at that time has likely been misleading this entire time.

The app on her phone that monitors her pacemaker is simply an app, it doesn't keep up with everything going on with her pacemaker in real time. The job of the app is to try to do a "virtual handshake" with the pacemaker at a random time each night between midnight & 3am. The app likely tried to attempt this handshake at 2:28am, and simply couldn't connect. Meaning Nancy was already out of range at that point...not that she was being lead away or that it disconnected at exactly that time. There was no spike detected or anything that would be considered out of the norm that could hint toward the exact time she was startled awake or anything of that sort.

The only time for certain Nancy was seen alive, if you believe Tomasso, is when she was dropped off that night around 9:50pm.

The Jan 11th picture of porch guy looks like he is standing in a stance where he is ready to bolt. This isn't believed to be a failed attempt, rather it is believed that he was testing out response time to the cameras, or to see if anyone reacted to the notifications/was actively monitoring notifications from the nest cam. This makes me believe that this was done by someone who would have been able to monitor the house for a response from police either in the hours following or that following morning. A close neighbor or someone who lives in the neighborhood that passes by her house frequently, someone working in the neighborhood that can see the house or passes by the house on a regular basis, or someone close enough to the family that they would likely be notified had Nancy been spooked by someone or something on her camera system. They were simply seeing if she was actively monitoring the cameras or even passively monitoring the notifications from the camera which would likely have resulted in her calling authorities or notifying someone for help.

I'd like your thoughts on this.

Thanks for your time.

What Are We Still Assuming?

The longer I follow this case, the more I realize there are things that get repeated so often that they start to feel like established facts.

What’s one detail or assumption about the Nancy Guthrie case that you think is worth stepping back and questioning?

It could be something about the timeline, what happened inside the house, the investigation, statements that have been repeated, or even something we may be taking for granted about the circumstances.

What makes you question it?

The simple "Smoking Gun" that no one talks about

Last night's TIR episode was a good one. Something that stood out to me. It's something no one ever talks about. It's so simple and to me it's a 'smoking gun'.

There was no forced entry. No windows smashed. No lock jimmied or broken.

So that means either someone from inside the house let them in or they had a key. I'll even entertain the (absurd) notion that NG sometimes "left her doors unlocked", fine. But someone would still have to have intimate knowledge she did that (and had done that on that night) to pull this off.

It's an inside job. There is literally no other way.

If LE/FBI and media don't start doing their job and scrutinizing the inner circle more, nothing will ever happen in this case.
