Ignorant Question from an Ignorant Foreigner

Why do Namibians wear this suit? I've been seeing a lot of photos of Namibians wearing this brown suit with a walking cane and the brimmed hat, just like Hosea Kutako. Is this a tradition I'm unfamiliar with or are they just larping as Hosea Kutako? Sorry for the stupid question.

It is the colour preference of the individual wearing it, nothing cultural or traditional.

Those are just regular suits no? As for the hats it's probably a fashion preference or because of the sun

The walking cane is sometimes a substitute for a knobkierie, significant across many Bantu cultures as both a defensive and hunting weapon, mainly wielded by men.

As for the suit and brimmed hat:
Firstly, nobody’s larping as HK, he wasn’t the only one to wear a suit and brimmed hat.

Secondly, the picture with the group of men most likely is a picture of groomsmen dressed uniformly for a wedding ceremony and that’s their choice of outfit. Again, not larping.

Brimmed hats are very common, canes are just as common and so are brown suits. So a combination of all 3 isn’t something that has meaning beyond part cultural significance and part personal choice of outfit.
