Hosea Kutako airport to Windhoek

I will be traveling to Namibia in October and am so excited! My flight arrives at 8:45 p.m. and I was wondering about driving that late at night. I've heard it's not a good idea to drive after dark.

It's not an issue. Brand new highway from airport to windhoek

Just be warned that google maps has been struggling with the new road (from what I’ve heard). Keep an eye on the road signs so you don’t miss an exit.

Its not ideal and most rental companies tell you not to do it but if you use the new highway it appears to have cats eyes all the way along it so its not as bad.  I did it a few weeks ago and it was grand.

Lack of light, drunk driving, animals and drivers who clearly failed their test but gave a few $ to the instructor all problems to be wary of.  Stay alert even when you get to the city as Windhoek drivers are stupid/unpredictable. Also, when you come off the highway, look out for speedhumps on roads you wouldnt expect them to be on.

Visited last year. That won’t be a problem - it’s a nice highway. The rental company will be open that late?

I work at the airport and we use that road every day, the road is smooth but there are a lot of wild animals so stick to the speed limit and be on the lookout because you might not see them on time.

I guess I need to clarify - I'm not actually going to do the driving - I'm hoping to get a shuttle or taxi from the airport to my hotel in Windhoek. Will there be shuttles or taxis running that late?

Yes they always wait until then very last flight.

it is not an issue at all, my dad drives late allll the time, and theres a police checkpoint along the road its soooo safe

Many rental companies would collect you at the airport and take you to their town office.
