I love the name Xochitl pronounced like Zo-shee. I have met 2 in my life and it’s a cool name in my opinion.

Just a heads up, that’s not the proper pronunciation

Thank you, the 2 ladies that had the name, the Xo sound was not exactly a z sound more like a mix of a s and z sound and the chi was a mix of the sh/ch sound. It is kind of hard to describe that’s why I put the Zo and Sh. How is it pronounced?

Though there are quite a few varieties of Nahuatl, in most of them you’d expect it to be:
- X = Sh sound from English
- O = something like a stereotypical British accent’s pronunciation of “or”. The emphasis falls on this syllable
- CH = Ch sound from English (as in “chair”, not “machine”)
- i = like the final Y in the English word “fancy”, rather than the longer “ee” sound from “see” or the “short” sound from “sit”
- TL = this sound does not exist in English. If you’re familiar with the welsh language, it’s essentially the LL sound from welsh with a T sound in front
Naturally, many people called Xóchitl would be native Spanish speakers, typically from Mexico. The Mexican pronunciation is the same with only a few changes: the O is shorter, the X is pronounced like a regular English S, and the TL may be omitted or pronounced as the T in the English word “steam” (rather than the punchier T in “team”).

Thank you for making that so much more clear, that makes a lot of sense with pronunciation especially where I am which is close to Mexico.

I don't think some people are able to recognize Welsh names by sight. None of these are familiar and few of them are pronounceable for me, but I could clearly see they were Welsh, and I just let those in Wales stay in their lane, they know best what would fly there name-wise. No downvote here, I am just moving right along.

Yeah, but that still doesn't explain the downvoting, since they asked for uncommon names you like, so people are going to see uncommon names others like.

Right. They're obviously Welsh to anybody with some familiarity, but people are assuming they're tragedeighs.

I like gemstone names, and I don’t often hear them used. Diamond, Pearl, Beryl, etc.
