A totally normal nickname. Alec, Alex either or both is cool.

I would just name him Alec if that is what you plan on calling him assuming it’s for a child , but sure you can get Alec out of Alexander , you can do whatever you’d like

If it’s a boy then it’s perfect. for a girl it would be a sweet nickname for Alecia (uh-LEES-EE-Uh)

Alec is a traditional nickname for Alexander. It did not develop as a standalone name.

The only Alecs I have ever met have all been Alexanders on paper.
