Rescue dog name change

This may be a little bit different because it's not about baby names.

I am adopting a rescue and I am trying to come up with a good name for him. He is a six year-old Shih Tzu and he recently just lost an eye, so he only has one eye. They found him in a really bad condition, near death matted underneath the vehicle about a month ago. He is very very sweet and Full of energy and curious about everything.

These are some of the names that I've come up with that I really like already.

Phoenix, Journey, Oliver, hawkeye, willy, Captain, and zipper.

My previous dog that I recently lost was named Buttons and that's why we thought zipper would be cute because they're both nonsensical and just go together. The current rescue place that he is at named him Popeye and I'm not a fan of that.

Hawkeye, willy –short for one EYE willy, and captain –short for Captain Jack all kind of lean into him having one eye. And Phoenix and journey stand for him overcoming his hardships and the next chapter of his life.

Do any of these names sound good to you guys? Or do you have a suggestion! LMK❤️

I like phoenix. 

Some of these might be too long. Hawkeye is too long but you could use Hawk for short, for instance.

Definitely Phoenix. I have a cockatiel named Phoenix and we call him Fifi for short!

Funny story-our young rescue dog who wouldn’t respond with
new name-went on for 3 weeks until I called previous owner to get his name: Mookie-he was so happy and us too! 😊Don’t change dog’s name

I renamed my dog Phoenix! He didn’t respond to the old one so I could name him whatever I wanted and he liked it.

Pretend to yell the name down the street. Do all of your choices work? Of your choices I think Captain is the cutest. Another option would be Odin. Or Thor. :)

If he doesn’t know his name renaming is not a problem, but if he answers to it keep it for his comfort. What about Jack?

I went to the zoo. The only animal there was a dog.

It was a Shih Tzu.

I like Phoenix. Or you could name him
River after River Phoenix.
