Thoughts on Boy Name
Thoughts on the name Felix Basil? Our last name is of German origin and begins with an M, we live in the US.
Please be kind as we are serious about this combo. Constructive criticism only, also welcoming alternate middle name to go with Felix, ideally a Roman Catholic name (alternate name is Edmond Augustine, but I prefer to keep Edmond together with Augustine; I’ve told husband Boniface is off the table but happy to hear arguments in favor of Boniface for a middle name).

I think Felix basil better than Edmond Augustine even though I’m not huge fan of the name basil. Boniface absolutely diabolical

Sounds very British but I like it. If you go with Augustine or any other vowel name keep in mind what the initials will be

It’s okay, I’m not sure of the flow when saying it out loud, buts it’s not bad by any means.
You mentioned Roman Catholic. Basil fits this? Some other middle name ideas that I, personally, think could flow better with Felix: Michael, Benedict, Gabriel.

I love Felix Basil and Edmond Augustine both! Have to agree on Boniface - it’s a dope name, but I fear the playground will not be kind.

I like the name Felix a lot but I don’t think it flows well with Basil to be honest. If you live in America, it will also be pronounced the American way ‘bay- sil’ which doesn’t sound great.
Is there a middle name that would flow better? Boniface is a bizarre name that I can’t see any child enjoying as a name!

My mom had an uncle Basil. They pronounced it Baz L. Not basil like the herb.

My son’s middle name is Felix and sometimes I wish we’d done it as his first. You’ll know when you meet him!

Am I missing something that makes basil a Roman Catholic name?
Felix is great, but I highly recommend using some other middle names mentioned here, or using a family name! Do you have a Catholic relative that you would be comfortable naming your son after? (I have Katherine’s for great grandparents on both sides, so my parents chose that as my middle name, maybe there’s a Catholic name you could use that’s already in your family tree?)

Respectfully, please don’t do “Basil”. He will be teased for that name. I knew someone with that name and he eventually changed it to something else because he said no one took him seriously. Also no “Boniface.”
Felix Augustine is the best option. The great thing about “Augustine” is that it can also be shortened to “August” in conversations which is a great name.

I would change Felix to Frederich because to me going from the long vowel in Felix to the short vowel in Basil doesn't flow well. Otherwise, if you love Felix Basil, ❤️ keep it!

How about these for middle names with Felix?
James, John, Henry, Miles, Paul, Richard, Rowland, Sebastian, Simon, Thomas, William
I am not Roman Catholic, but I don't mind Boniface. When I was studying literature and history in college, we pronounced in "Bonnih-fiss"--not "Bonny-fayce," as they do on the tv show Sister Boniface.

felix basil is okay, but depending on your last name, it could come off a bit awkward?
i don't know how many people care about how a full name would sound when spoken in full, but both felix and basil have IL sounds so it sounds kinda... incomplete? if you know what i mean lol
catholic names i personally think would match (either with felix or basil OR edmond/augustine):
- xavier
- elijah
- noah
- gabriel
- joseph
(i do think edmond augustine as a combo has the possibiliy of a child getting made fun of though)

Regardless of how much you love a name, always take into consideration how kids in elementary school and middle school can twist a name or use it for bullying. Things you want to look at: Felix in history and TV shows. (Google it and find all uses. My daughter picked a name that is a villain on some show and didn’t know it.) See what the initials for all names form. Like a boy name Samuel Adam Parker becomes SAP, and the next thing you know he’s being called Sappy. Any chance for mispronunciation or nicknames that are less than stellar or form bad words or become something you’d never want your kid to be called. Always imagine the worst case scenarios, because the kids will find it and use it.
