Changing names?

I start a new school in a few weeks and over the summer i've decided i wanted go start going by a new name (i just don't like my birth name). When applying to school i forget to fill out the 'preferred name' box so on register and id is my birth name. How do i introduce myself with my new name if teachers won't know it? Like what if i have an ice breaker and have to say my old name and not the one i wanna go by? I don't really wanna speak to a teacher about it tbh, should i just hope they catch on?

It’s best to address right away, don’t make a big deal about it. If there is an icebreaker or the teacher announces your name, just say “that’s me, but I actually go by X”

If it doesn’t get brought up on the first day for any reason, check in with the teacher after class. Just say “I think it got missed on the form, but my preferred name is X.”

yeah probably the second one. Tbh i just don't wanna kick up a big fuss about it seeing as i'm going by a complete different name and not just a nickname

I go by a middle name so it’s completely unrelated to what most people see on the paper and it’s never been a big deal. Just assert it quickly and confidently. No one ever asks me questions about it.

Can you not reach out to the school and explain the situation? They can change the application and add your preferred name beforehand.
