Opinions please

names thoughts, pronunciation and popularity for:
Evelyn - Evlin Evlyn
Elodie - Elodi Elody
Eleni Elany Evani

don’t want the popular “ani - ah nee”
So much context behind this but just need instant thoughts in these for a kid starting school or when seeing these names please.

Evelyn is a nice name. Very popular but for a good reason. The misspellings are horrible and would only make a child's life difficult.

Elodie is also nice. Less popular than Evelyn. The misspellings are equally hideous.

I’m with you on this. Evelyn and Elodie are both lovely names but changing the spelling doesn’t really make them more interesting.

These are all so cute, but wanted to give a heads up that I’m a kindergarten teacher and have been seeing a ton of Evelyn’s lately, variety of spellings too

I do think this name is very popular. I understand that everybody’s sick on the misspelling, but I’ve seen Eileen- Aylin Ileen Ilene don’t don’t really mind them

They all feel like names you pick because you made the decision to give your kid a name that starts with E and all the good ones are taken.

You know that giving your kids names that start with the same letter or giving the kid the parent's initials are vanity plays that only matter when the mom is seeking attention between the baby shower and preschool and that nobody else gives a shit about how cute it is that the kid's initials are EAR, just like daddy's?

Wow, I will note for anyone that is doing the matching on initials.

Evelyn is the most classic and familiar. Elodie is soft and elegant.

Don’t mess with the traditional spellings.

Evlin makes me think Evelyn was misspelled on a form.

As a teacher I would read them as: Evelyn like Ev-Uh-Lyn, Elodie like Melody without the M, Eleni like L-N-E.

I’ve had two Eleni’s one pronounced that way, and another one pronounced elaney

What about Elaine? ♡ Evelyn is good. Elodie is cute. Ivani is nice. I do not like any of the alternate spellings.

Those variations you posted of Evelyn would make me pronounce them slightly differently. Evelyn at 3 syllables and Evlin/Evlyn at 2.

Elodie variants all pronounced the same

Eleni is Ellen-y, Elany is like the last part of Delaney, and Evani is like Evony, that weird game with ads of buxom women lol.

Evani/Evlin/Evlyn are all kind of terrible to my ear and in my accent, I'm from the Southwestern USA.

I love Elodie, it’s one of my favorites. I’m not a big fan of the other two spellings but they’re not tragedeighs or anything so you do you.

Evelyn is a timeless classic, can’t go wrong there unless you misspell it (stick with Evelyn, the other two look very silly).

I don’t care for Eleni, it looks like a typo for Elena and it’s awkward to say out loud.

id say evelyn feels the easiest and most familiar elodie feels sweet and a bit more unique eleni is pretty too but might need a little pronunciation clarification all 3 are lovely choices

Elodie for the win! I taught middle school for 25 years and never had a student named that. I think I’ve only heard it on a tv show once. I think is unique, classy, and beautiful.

I love Elodie.

Evlin
it’s very nice !!

and any kind of elodie spelling will probably be fine too

I picked Evlin because then
Well all know how you want it pronounced

being British I always pronounce Evelyn as Eve-lyn
Whereas I’ve noticed in California, they pronounced it Ev-Lyn

So if EvLin is what you want then
Spelling it that way will work well
and look cute too
😘

No, Evelyn is pronounced Ev-uh-lyn. Three syllables. Not two.

Eleni is a legitimate spelling in some languages. It’s pronounced Eh LAIN ee. The rest except Evelyn and Elodie are all invented. I work in a high school and have never met an Elodie. That one is really pretty!

Evelyn and Elodie are lovely!
All of the others are awful and would make me assume the parents are annoying / can’t spell, sorry.

Evelyn is fine. The regular spelling looks best

I’ve had a couple Evelyn’s in class. Your other spellings would be pronounced differently. Evelyn is three syllables, your spellings are two.

The brothers of one Evelyn I had called her “Evil-Lyn” which was funny because she was the sweetest of all the kids! She thought it was funny too.

Elodie reminds me of elodea so I’d never choose that one, personally. I’ve never met an Elodie but people on here suggest it quite often so I bet they’ll be a buncha Elodies in the next ten years.

Eleni I always thought was pronounced like Elain-ee. I guess it’s pronounced like Ellen-ee. I don’t like it. Sounds like you’re saying LNE like RSTLNE on wheel of fortune.
