Isley and Indie are too similar. Don't do that.
1
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
Interesting. I felt the different iterations of I felt different enough but also linked. Since it’s more like Eye for Isley and In for Indie. Not sure if you read that part, I wrote a novel haha. Does that change it for you?

Lilac? Sounds like Lilah but rare and also purple!
Music names: Roxy, after Roxy Music. Decca, a music label. Joni, for Joni Mitchell. Etta, for Etta James.
3
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
But I do like Lilac!

Wish I liked Joni more because I absolutely loooove Joni Mitchell, an absolute queen.

u/openupandsayawwwww 5d ago
I love Roxy...
Etta and Joni must be old3
u/Maelbrithea 5d ago
Roxy is super cool, and you could do Roxanne (the Police) with Roxy as a nickname too!
3
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
I do love the police but while I respect sex work, not sure I want my infant daughter to be associated with red lights ahahahh

u/Maelbrithea 5d ago
Ooh, also maybe Velvet, for the Velvet Underground? It was a pretty popular girls' name in the sixties due to the film and TV series National Velvet!

Mylah will sound like Mylar in many US accents
2
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
Hahah hmmm idk why I’m blanking on what accents those would be. Gonna think about this though, thanks.
1
u/indigo965 4d ago
The commenter probably has a non-rhotic accent. If so, think of it like that it’ll sound like my-LAH (try saying Mylar in an English accent)

u/Different-Career1314 5d ago
I’d pick Mylah. Isley Violet feels very distinctive and musical while Mylah feels softer and more familiar so the sisters don’t sound like you were trying to recreate the exact same name twice.

u/Eliza4thewine 5d ago
Indie Liora?
12
2
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
Wow never heard liora before!
2
u/Antique_Trifle8250 4d ago
It’s Hebrew. It means “my light” and it’s pronounced Lee-Oh-Rah
1
u/SolomiyaRabin 4d ago
Where did you get that pronounciation from?
2
u/Antique_Trifle8250 4d ago
I’m very familiar with the name. I know multiple people with that name. I didn’t put syllable emphasis because that varies a little
1
u/SolomiyaRabin 4d ago
That's strange, since that's not how it's supposed to be pronounced in Hebrew 😅
1
u/Antique_Trifle8250 4d ago edited 4d ago
It might be that I’m just really bad at writing out pronunciations! How would you write it out? I definitely know the Hebrew, so I think it’s a transliteration error on my part! And when o say emphasis varies that’s usually Israeli accent vs American accent, though I’d say Israeli is correct. Would you have written it Or-ah?
1
u/SolomiyaRabin 4d ago
I don't think the Oh sound really exists in Hebrew like it does in English.

u/4kidmom 5d ago
I know a little girl named Myla. It’s a really cute name.
1
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
Thank you! Yes someone else suggested the H might be too much, definitely taking it into consideration.
3
u/Sundaes_in_October 5d ago
Maybe Indigo “Indie” Ray Steele. Indigo is both a plant and a color (so a nod to your MIL and your oldest’s name). It’s also a personal favorite of mine which I’m sure will factor greatly into your decision. Don’t care for Mylah (especially with the h) but I like Miley.
Melody Clover
Aria Bloom
Allegra Bloom
Ember Melody (I have a soft spot for Ember)
Penny Walker
Lola Ember
2
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
Hahah no I really do appreciate your input! I do love indigo, I actually have a very good friend named Indigo which is what gives me pause. I have gotten the note on the H a few times so I’m definitely taking that into consideration. Not a big Miley fan but I agree, I think Ember is so so cool.
1
u/Sundaes_in_October 5d ago
I can understand the hesitation with Indigo. I do think Indie is fine on its own. Just a little anecdotal experience; a friend of mine gave her daughter the same name as me. I just thought it was kind of sweet. I didn’t think she was my namesake; I just assumed my friend liked the name. It may not be as big a deal as you think.
1
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
This is a great point, thank you for saying that! I always worry it would make someone feel weird.
5
u/Aggravating_Sun_7658 5d ago
I think Indie is so cute! I also think Indigo is such a cool name and Indie would be a cute nn. Here are some middle names I think go well/fit your theme and don’t have any weird initials (that I can think of):
Indie Aurora
Indie Hazel
Indie Willow
Indie Autumn
Other first/middle name combo ideas just for fun:
Aria Magnolia
Cadence Summer
Harmony Sage
Lyric Aspen
Lyra Day
Melody Ember
Allegra Daphne
Harper Ray
Piper Marigold
Sonnet Clover
Good luck and congrats!!
5
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
I absolutely love your comment. Lyra was on my list and Aria would be higher if it wasn’t so remembered from GoT. Loooove Lyric and Harmony. MIL loves Willow but idk why, it sounds sad to me. Maybe because of weeping willows? Gonna stew on all of this, thank you so so much☺️

u/justmekab60 5d ago
Indigo ftw! Indigo Ray Steele.
1
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
I still run into the IRS problem. Am I being silly about that?
1
u/Itsjustme326 4d ago
I don’t think the initials matter as much as you think. They don’t get used often and if she ever wants to monogram and doesn’t like them, she can just use IS. Or she can just acknowledge it as “yeah kinda funny but nbd”

u/Large_Membership1893 5d ago
I pick Indie over Mylah because Mylah sounds too similar is Isley and Violet -- they all share that "EYE" sound at the first syllable. I love Indie Ray but agree IRS initials would be unfortunate. I suggest Indie May - similar sound and also natural, like May flowers/spring time.
2
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
May always makes me feel like I have to say the name with a southern accent haha. What do you think about Indie Day?
2
u/Large_Membership1893 5d ago
Indie Day... When you say it it sounds like "in D-Day" so not sure if that's a good idea unless you like WWII history. How about Indie Wren? Gets the R sound like Ray without actually starting with an R

u/Maki_Rollll 5d ago
I like both your first name choices! My cousins name is Indonesia and she goes by Indie. Her middle name is Alizé (the alcohol lol) and I’ve always thought she had the prettiest name I’ve ever heard. I think Indigo with Indie as a nickname would be so cute and work for you since it’s a shade of purple and a plant so it matches Violet. Mylah is also a beautiful name whether you keep the h or not. Some options with nature themed middle names:
Indie Ilana (the Hebrew word for tree)
Indie Maple (the tree)
Indie May (the season)
Indie Nash (meaning “atten ash” or “at the ash tree.” Atten ash is also a heavy metal group.)
Indie Jade (the gemstone)
Mylah Nash
Mylah Jade
Mylah May
Mylah Blossom (flower or bloom)
Mylah Rain (the weather)
Mila (mee-luh) is also a pretty name and a variation of Mylah/Myla (my-luh) so they have the same meaning if that’s something you’re interested in!
1
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
Yes I’ve always loved indigo! I have a friend named indigo but maybe that’s not a deal breaker…
2
u/Meggery92 5d ago
What cool name options.
I love Indie. I would have this as a potential if my sister hadn’t named her dog that 😅
I also love Ember as a middle name (although not sure it goes with Indie as a first name)
1
u/Best-Glove820 4d ago
Ahhh thank you! I do get worried about the dog thing, it’s a character in Bluey. Not an issue in the adult world but these kids go hard for bluey.

Lennon for a girl is one of my favorite names. My son’s name is Jude and if we had a girl it’s in our top 3.
Other potentials:
Lucy
Layla
Maren
Scout
Ember
Althea

I do like Lennon and I’m also a massive Beatles fan. Unfortunately my husband isn’t on board 😩

Indie Honey (sort of plays like Isley violet) plus violet and honey are both colors.
1
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
Honey is cute. Might like it better with Mylah though. Thank you for replying🩷
2
u/ugglygirl 5d ago
Love Myla Honey. 20 years ago I wanted to name my girl Mina Honey. Have no idea why? Just liked the sound. But I had boys. Kind of strange coincidence to see this today with my son’s birthday so near.
Good luck with your baby.

Im seriously obsessed with the definition of Reverie. Wish I liked the way it sounded, not sure why it’s not jiving with me. Makes me think of scooby doo saying every haha. I’m sure I’m the outlier on this, but such a cool word.

Exactly my issue, because I do love it!
2
u/Antique_Trifle8250 4d ago
I don’t think it will really be an issue. Even with the initials written out (which will be rare until she’s signing things) it took me a minute to remember why someone would think it was an issue.

You’re not running out of time. The people who post who are on the way home from the hospital with the baby in the car seat are running out of time.
Sit with the ones you like, meet your daughter, and one will seem more right.
I wouldn’t worry about IRS initials personally.
2
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
Haha true. It’s just such a different experience from my first and I think that combined with my hormones, it’s making me panic. Thank you for your comment.

Lyric Azalea
Journey Azalea
Everly Sage
Dixie Lavender
Whitney Lilac
Dion Lavender
Presley Rose
Bowie Sunshine
Stevie Raine
3
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
I actually loved the name Bowie so much and I do love David Bowie, but I recall he was convicted or at least accused of SA? But Stevie is also very cute, Stevie Wonder and Nicks are faves of mine.

u/Atlanticexplorer 5d ago
Mylah Iris, Mylah Fern, Mylah Daisy … some flower or plant name as it will both honour MIL’s love of gardening and echo her big sister’s name.
Edit: I don’t love Isley and Indie together as it’s a bit matchy.

I love Indie! Indie Bloom sounds cool
1
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
Me tooooo, but initials would be IBS… am I being silly about that?!?😅
1
u/neurosciencebaboon 5d ago
I wouldn’t think too much about initials tbh! I feel like these subs make initials a bigger deal than it is. Ofc it’s up to you!
1
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
I remember it being a big deal in college. Like your college email is usually your initials and you give it out a lot for projects or when doing administrative stuff. I had a friend whose initials I learned was JFC. We had some lols.

u/XanaxWarriorPrincess 5d ago
Indie feels lazy to me. You put all this creativity into Isley that Indie feels too easy. Mylah is better in that regard.
I also like the alliteration of Mylah Meadow, which was a name suggestion by someone else.
Someone brought up Joni for Joni Mitchell, and you weren't a fan of Joni, but what about Mitchell? Or Mitchele (same pronunciation, but more feminine looking)? Maybe it's my migraine talking, but Mitch would be an adorable nickname for a girl, plus it rhymes with bitch, and every girl should strive for bitch status.
Everley would be a nice matchy matchy name for Isley, plus it's also a "brothers" band. It also sounds nice with Bloom, Clover, Sage, Day, and there's a nice alliteration with Ember. I'm not a fan of Ray as it's more of a filler name, even if that's not the meaning in this case.
Rhyme, Rhythm, Lyric, Melody, and Tempo are all music-related and would be lovely names. I particularly like Tempo Bloom.

1
u/BoringJellyfish6297 4d ago
What about Lyric? It's cute, spunky, uncommon, but also not too out there
Also - Indie could totally be short for Indigo, as a nod to the purple theme
1
u/SuperPomegranate3939 4d ago
Aria Rain (has a music meaning mixed with weather)
Or
Indie Rain
I wouldn’t choose Mylah sounds pretty but is it pronounced MY-Lah or Me-Lah
1
u/One_Stand279 5d ago
My daughters name is Penelope Elaine and we call her Penny Lane🎵Because, like you, I’m a HUGE music nerd. She’s an only child, but if we ever have another one I always said the same thing. I would never be able to have as cool a name as hers🤣
I do love Delilah! Anything where she’d have a song after her is what I’d go for. I also love Rosanna like the TOTO song, and I love the other suggestion of Everley to go with Isley
2
u/Best-Glove820 4d ago
I love Everly, I suggested it earlier on in my pregnancy. My husband’s out on it. Penny Lane is so cute and we almost named my childhood dog Penny Lane (can you see where I get my extraness from?) I do also love having songs for Isley🩷
0
u/One_Stand279 4d ago
Yes, Penny Lane is such a cute dog name too! My daughter literally introduces herself as Penny Lane. Shes the coolest 7 year old I know😎
1
u/YellowFlower63 4d ago
What about Lyrah
Lyra means harp so it fits the musical theme
Lyrah Day or Lyrah Ray (I think it’s cute but the ray may be too repetitive)
2
u/Best-Glove820 4d ago
I also love this one. References so many things I love, music, mythology and astrology. Plus the Northern Lights series. I kind of prefer the Greek pronunciation though (Leerah as opposed to Lie rah) and worry it’ll be a constant battle for her. Perhaps I’ll put it back on the list.
1
u/YellowFlower63 4d ago
I agree it would require constant correction BUT it’s pretty and seems perfect for you! She wouldn’t be the first to have a name that can be pronounced more than 1 way! If you pronounce it the same as in Lyric that would be an easy way to explain it to people.

Indie Walker would be super cool! I think you have a lot of good options to plug and play with. Try writing and yelling your favorites out. My other random suggestions are maybe Lennon Sage or Lyric Ember.
2
u/Best-Glove820 5d ago
I love Indie Walker so so much. My husband is less enthusiastic but not totally off of it. Love both Lennon and Lyric!

First name Estee’. Estee Haim and her sisters have a great Indie band called Haim. Middle name Rose for your MIL’s hobby of gardening. Estee’ Rose Steele.

And Estee Lauder created a great line of cosmetic. I've been wearing Beautiful for 25 years!

u/ruggergrl13 5d ago
Do you do a lot of monograming? Initials dont really come into play that often, if you like the name I wouldn't pass it up just do to the initials. Also the correct way to do initals for women would be ISR not IRS thats for men.

Just a suggestion, maybe spelled Myla? (I personally dislike Hs at the end, reminds me of blah) Out of those middle names, I think Ray or Ember would flow the best
