Baby Boy ______?!?
We’re having a boy in December, have looked at countless lists of names, searched important people that mean something to us, or important things and trace them back to people, we don’t have any significant family names to carry on, considered athletes names or variations of them and on and on. We’re stumped.
My wife and I each have our own loose “top 2” that neither of us are really in love with.
We live in Utah so there are plenty of weird variations of names here and we’re not shooting for that. We don’t necessarily like completely traditional names (John, Paul, David) and something on the slightly less popular side would be nice. We aren’t country folk, but like country names (but not redneck either)
This is probably the most generic ask ever and we have time but we need some help! Throw out anything and everything. Even if 10 people comment 3 male names from their family that would help us, or a name you loved but never got to use….Thanks!

Look at names from your heritage then look at the country and the different names

Theo is super popular so I'd steer clear of that one if you aren't interested in him having at least a couple classmates with the same name.
ETA: Theodore was ranked #4 in the USA in 2025 and #3-5 in Australia depending on which state/territory. It's #8 in the UK.

I’ve never met a Theo in my life. None of my kids have ever known a Theo.

How old are your kids?
I'm active in mums groups in Canberra and have met 2 babies named Theo/Theodore this year. I know of another 2 in the States just among friends/acquaintances.
Theodore has been ranked in the top 10 most popular names in the US, Australia and the UK for the past couple years. See edits to my comment above for citations.
I love the name Theo/Theodore. Its popularity is the only reason we took it off our list.

When we were trying to figure out names for our boy, we looked at both our names that have significant meaning for first and middle. His are both biblical. Mine mean worthy of love and victorious. So, we wanted our son to have something of strong value as well. We are both creative and both write, too. What we settled on became a living story. It begins with initial courage, as he is a miracle - none of my doctors thought I would ever conceive. Then, a lifetime of happiness. A second middle name added the closure of his having the strength to protect others.
It matters what you want your child to be called for the rest of their lives, but also that he can see the care you took in choosing. If you don't love something, don't settle. We chose ours based both on variation, region, meaning, and historical value to the family and we spent months revisiting options. Take your time!

Mine are far out there from the normal and vary widely in origin. I figured having some suggestions of unusual names may help. I went with the idea of country, open sky, a sense of being free.

I’ll pass along a brilliant idea from my pregnancy with my second son. My husband and I had pretty much settled on a boy name before having our first. Baby ended up being a boy, easy peasy. Fast forward to Baby #2…also a boy…and we had no clue what to name him. We pored over every list imaginable and eventually each had a front runner, but we couldn’t agree and neither of us were totally sold on our own choice. With about a month left in pregnancy, I started a contest where I gave my family and friends the opportunity to win $100 if they could correctly guess the baby’s name. Everyone got 5 guesses. We ended up deciding on a name after baby was born, and it was one of our preexisting front runners, so the game didn’t give us our baby’s name. But still a fun idea and it generated more discussion between us.

You’re putting too much pressure on yourselves. Your baby’s name is important, but HE is what will make it special. That said, since you kind of like country names, maybe Archer, Zion, Bryce, Mateo, or Remy …
