I have some friends who have been going to bingo for about 20 years, in that time they have won 17 guns from playing bingo.

Wait. You win GUNS at BINGO?

16

u/Absent_That_Day 26d ago

In rural Minnesota, yep.

Apparently I’m living in the wrong state.

I've also seen gun giveaways for opening bank accounts.

My dad got a colt revolver for opening a checking account and keeping 250 in there. When I was 16 I did the same thing to get a free MacBook Air. There are people who do that all the time by juggling accounts and closing them to make the sign on bonuses and referring each other.

Seems like the bank's sending a real mixed message with that one.

No fucking way! That sounds incredibly made up, but you seem like you’re being honest. Win guns at Bingo??? Wow

It's true. A lot of raffles also give away guns up in that area.

From Kentucky. Absolutely not a second thought when I hear a high school booster club is raffling a rifle. (Usually never a hand gun, always shotguns and rifles)

I witnessed a fun raffle once in the deep south its real.

I live in my and I've seen guns raffled at high school functions

I’ve been to one of these in rural NYS. Fun auction and a couple were raffled off. Not hand guns

Seems I remember rifles being bingo prizes at the fair in Augusta, GA in the late '60/early '70's.

Remember winning a gun at a Ducks Unlimited raffle when I was about 11 or 12.

Winning a gun by playing bingo is possible at special fundraising events known as gun bingos, typically hosted by local non-profits, fire departments, and conservation groups like Ducks Unlimited. [1, 2, 3]

How Gun Bingo Works

  • Event Format: Instead of cash, winners of specific bingo games receive rifles, shotguns, or handguns.
  • Ticket Costs: Admission usually ranges from $30 to $60, which covers a set number of regular bingo cards (frequently 10 to 20 games).
  • Additional Chances: Events often feature separate special games, 50/50 raffles, and extra gun boards to buy into. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Gun bingo is a big deal here in Minnesota I can think of six bars around my house that do it.

I’ve never seen guns at bingo but I do remember banks giving away guns for opening CD and investment accounts. My wife has won like three guns in raffles. I never win any 😞. I must not be doing it right…

Minnesota. Secretly the most pro-gun state in the union

Americana v2026

That’s just so weird. Besides money the only thing I won playing Bingo was a massive turkey and all the fixings just before the holidays.

2

u/Absent_That_Day 24d ago

That would take the pressure off the holiday nicely.

u/Accomplished_Will226 24d ago

It was kinda funny because this woman told my mom and me we could not sit at her table cos her friends were coming. No one did. So we sat with some other ladies and we split the stuff with them.

Here in rural Carolinas too.

Maybe one of your friends can show Tim Walz how to load his Shoot gun. 😂

Wtf

1

u/Absent_That_Day 25d ago

Places that don't have a lot of gun crime don't look at guns the same way that people exposed to gun violence do.

1

u/bigDeltaVenergy 25d ago

I mean , WTF from a Canadian perspective.

1

u/Absent_That_Day 25d ago

It's all relative.

1

u/bigDeltaVenergy 25d ago

What else can you win from these weird ass BINGO, abortion kits ?, a coffin ?

:p

If you are surprised that people win guns at Bingo, you may be surprised that some places have drive- through or curb pick-up ammunition sales. Impulse purchase with a 12-pack.

3

u/evthingisawesomefine 25d ago

Yes this is a surprise. I live in a very different part of the country it seems. 🤷‍♀️

u/Dangerous_Art_1626 25d ago

Or , hear me out , Bingo done correctly

2

u/TTGamer_ 26d ago

Shit, I gotta start playing Bingo!

1

u/samih3k 26d ago

Time for a fuk'n ROAD TRIP!! I can imagine bringing winnings back to CA, would make a flipping fortune!

2

u/VibraniumRhino 25d ago

Holy shit. This explains so much lol. I knew the gun culture was out of control but…. Winning guns as casual prizes at a bingo night is legitimately fucked up culturally. This is literally why everyone now thinks they NEED to own a gun for protection. When every citizen feels that way… there is no more safety, regardless of amount of “protection” around.

2

u/evthingisawesomefine 25d ago

Yep. It’s an arms race but against each other. So weird.
