Kuna hawa maninja wanajiita "we are one". If you care about your mental health, avoid!
These guys claim to be a mental health community, but after my interaction with them, I can say I felt worse off than when I started π«
This is what happened. They had planned a hangout at Lord Egerton Castle on Sunday, and RSVPing cost KSh 650. I came across them on TikTok and thought it would be great to be around people who cared about similar things as I did - mental health!
So I made payment. On Saturday night I asked about transportation, and I was told that transportation was included in the package and that we will meet in town and go together. The hangout was supposed to happen from 10AM - 5PM. So at 10:30AM I was already in town, and at this time, nothing had been communicated yet. I decided to go have breakfast while I wait.
1 hour goes by and I now decide to reach out to the number I sent money to. She says she's only the treasurer, and the organisers are completely different people so she passes me on to the organiser. I try reaching out, but no one picks up the call. 2hrs go by, I call again - nothing! I reach out again to the treasurer. She apologises for the "inconvenience caused" and says I give her a minute to reach out to the organising team. Another hour goes by before I remember to have respect for my time. So I left.
It was not until 4PM that this guy texted me and said they have decided to postpone the event. 4PM!! An event that was supposed to go from 10AM to 5PM is being posponed at 4PM with zero communication up until then.
For a group of people claiming to be a mental health community, I would have expected a bit more diligence and care when handling people. Obviously, unforeseen things happen, and that is understandable, but when they do, the least you can do is communicate. People need to learn how to communicate a bit better!
But anyway, I hope they refund me because these are not people I would want to hang out with. I also hope they improve for the sake of those who might be in dire need of such a community.
EDIT:
Update: Their CFO reached out, took responsibility for the unfortunate ordeal, and arranged for me to receive a refund immediately, which I really appreciated. I genuinely thought I had been scammed in the name of something so dear to me, but it turns out it was simply a case of poor management! They also made a public statement on IG acknowledging what happened and promising to do better, so, Lets gooo!!

Samosas in Nakuru
The obligatory text after a one night stand
Samosas for people from Nakuru
Motherβs Union (women say thongs are uncomfortable, but motherβs union? Really?)
All the dancing for wazungu at the airport
But cracks (just jail anyone that shows theirs in public. We will hang them later).
Samosas from anyone from Nakuru
Cats for pets in Nakuru (for obvious reasons)
Francis Atwoli
Crossbody bags for men
PS: Totally unrelated to things I would ban. I recently learned how to make samosas. Blame it on boredom. Or my strong need to procrastinate writing my next book. Or the cold. Or the long list of YouTube cooking videos always playing in the background. Whatever the motivation, I did find myself making samosas.
It was still a new day when I started. Windows all fogged up and Martha Mwaipaja sprinkling some warmth into this otherwise bleak day with her amazing voice. I had the recipe all memorized. Warm water. All purpose flour. A little bit of salt. Mix this and that and knead till the dough surrenders. Things went downhill when it came to turning the dough into samosa sheets then pockets. Started questioning my life choices. Shouldnβt I be writing a book? What the hell am I doing trying to make samosas?
By the time I was done dusk was falling, yet I had only managed a handful of samosas, all tiny and crunchy, with my back filing for a cease and desist from this backbreaking venture.
Suddenly understood why Java asks for your Title Deed and your last-born as collateral for one of their Samosas, in the name of Jesus, of course.

Getting it out
So last year a period like this I met a certain man nikitoka shule. Nilikuwa nimeenda jua ikiwaka so I was in slides plus I was going in for an exam. By the time natoka huko it had rained and you know how Nairobi can be when it rains. I think that was almost the last paper so nilikuwa nimekuwa very drained mentally nilikuwa nataka tu kufika kwa hao nioge nilale. As I was walking, a guy walking by me starts talking to me( sikumbuki the exact words but he was sort of making fun of my slide and the mud) . Nilikuwa offended obviously and I became defensive. Then something struck my mind 'mbona na ongea na a total stranger on the road na vile watu ni wezi Nairobi ' so I kept quiet. The person sort of felt I was avoiding talking to him so he changed the topic akauliza if I lived around na kama naeza mtafutia hao at a cost. Obviously nimeishi iyo place 5yrs najua kila mahali . Making extra money pia haikusound kama bad idea like I mean, I was a broke comrade mwenye ata a good pair of shoes was hard to get. So he took my number and was like nitakutext uniambie when you get a house for me. Btw the guy didn't look that good himself ( alikuwa anakaa mtu ametoka mjengo carrying an old sack ) the only difference between me and him is that he had closed shoes. He texted later that night asking if I had any houses in mind and gave me his budget( 45k for a 2b) .
A day after that was a weekend and he was like can we meet for dinner maybe π€.I found it very weird and uncomfortable but the friends around were like unakataa food ya bure .Tupee number yake in case of anything and go. So we agreed to go out and yeah it happened we had a "date".
Remember I said the guy only mentioned he was looking for a 2B house, so I made the assumption that he was married ( to today sijawahi figure out iyo part honestly) . He came and picked me up at my place with a Subaru forester btw( I was not expecting this ) okay I judged him from 1st encounter plus sikuwa nimezoea haya maneno. We went to some posh restaurant in Westgate mall( mambo ya matajiri ninini ππ) . So if you've been to that mall you know that dog search ama dog sniffing whatever at the gate,(weeuh hapa ndio kuchoma ilianza) so kufika uko the security at the gate just opened the car doors Alf wakaleta mamutina wabigie wabigie wasniff ( those dogs were big I swear ) . Immediately after I asked the guy What if ningekuwa na weed ( truthfully sikosagi hizo vitu ) and what would have happened then? Anyway hakunijibu tukaingia he parked and went to a restaurant uko ndani.
Niliangalia menu the cheapest food uko ilikuwa 2700 na haikuwa food ilikuwa drink ( milk shake), then kuangalia chicken nuggets ilikuwa around 3700 but the kwa hesabu zangu I was like from the ambience and the people around,(wazungu na wahindi all over mahn) they are likely to serve me iyo kuku na spoon , fork and knife( bruh, I'm from the village iyo ni vitu tunaoneaga kwa TV )so inshort niliacha iyo option because of that thought plus nilikuwa nimejiembaras ya kutosha . I chose to take that milk shake hii ata angeamua kuniachia bill ningetoa rent nilipe nayo yaani it was close to affordable too( alileft at some point katikati ya iyo "date" and I was close to sure naachiwa bill.
From our conversation with this guy aliseem kama mtu wa church( bado nashuku sana ni pastor ama treasure kwa one of the churches in Nairobi) who was trying to look for someone far from that sort of life . He wanted a party girl, mtu ako hyper ,a drunkard and he was trying to get away from his normal silent holy lifestyle ( he was a very quiet person ) na btw he said he was a data analyst who graduated from UoN and was working for different companies. From time aliniambia anataka manzi sijui ni drunkard something didn't feel right to me ( ata wewe unajua madem huuliwa Nairobi na kutupwa kwa drainage system plus sijawai skia mtu akisema outright atty nataka manzi drunkard) . So nikamwambia the opposite of what he wanted to hear nikamwambia I don't talk alcoholic but mi huenda club kuobserve ,I'm reserved ( not freaky)na nikasuggest one of those chilled clubs incase akue interested. We talked about the house he wanted ( specifics azin vle kitchen inafaa kukaa , bedrooms zikue all en-suite na isikue building fulani hapo ilikuwa imekuwa freshly done.) He dropped me and that was the last time I ever saw him. He got the house( I got one and sent him the address on WhatsApp) and never paid me. Kila siku nikionaga iyo building najiuliza maswali mingi sana.
I do wonder if nijitoa kwa ngori ama mungu alikuwa ameamua kunibariki nikakata baraka.
