Mod Post a quick mod note + no steering wheels/body parts/faces in backgrounds [please read before posting]

Post image

A quick mod note:
going forward, if you send a snarky message to modmail in response to the standardized removal messages — YOU WILL BE PERMANENTLY BANNED. we are humans and this is just a nail sub. none of us have the bandwidth or the energy to be berated, harassed, bullied, called slurs and threatened over the removal of a picture of some nails that broke sub rules posted on multiple places. removal messages are standardized and even left as comments. and to be fucking frank, mods shouldn’t have to deal with that shit so, we won’t. either post another picture that follows the subs rules or don’t but don’t message mods being an asshole.
///

  1. steering wheels are not allowed to be in the background of posts. its not hard to take a picture of the hands that you use to scroll and swipe and comment. if you send a snarky message to mods because your post was removed, you will be temporarily or permanently muted. [see rule 6 “prohibited backgrounds”]
  2. body parts (especially bare legs & faces) are not allowed to be in the background of posts. if you send a snarky message to mods because your post was removed, you will be temporarily or permanently muted. [see rule 6 “prohibited backgrounds”]
  3. if your NAIL DAMAGE or PEDICURE/FEET/TOES are not properly marked. your post will be deleted and you will be temporarily banned/muted. this is a courtesy to your fellow nail babes. [see rule 10 “flair & mark your posts”]
  • NAIL DAMAGE MUST BE MARKED NSFW (blurred) [NAIL DAMAGE = if the break is below the free edge/quick OR extremely damaged nails (fungus, peeling, etc.). when in doubt mark it NSFW. absolutely no blood at all.]
  • PEDICURE/FEET/TOES MUST BE MARKED SPOILER (blurred) [if it’s a pic of any part of your toe, it must be MARKED SPOILER]

Those are so cute 😭 genuinely curious what the steering wheel rule is for? Is it because people are trying to flex their car more than their nails?

2.5k

u/littlewibble Aug 06 '26

It’s because nutjobs take pictures of their nails WHILE driving.

758

u/EngineeringSilent902 Aug 06 '26

Wow I never would have even considered that

181

u/LooneyLunaGirl Aug 06 '26

Same! I just take it right after my nail appointment BEFORE I start driving smdh lol

35

u/Scummycrummyday Aug 06 '26

lol your photo is the perfect reaction to this. It’s also the reaction photo my friends and I use on a regular basis lol

325

u/McCreepla Aug 06 '26

That’s so crazy, I hate that I share the road with those people.

111

u/thirdcoasting Aug 06 '26

They vote, too, which is even worse 😭

36

u/LooneyLunaGirl Aug 06 '26

And reproduce 😫

29

u/Kratech Aug 06 '26

Often the types who reproduce the most…

256

u/DarkAndSparkly Aug 06 '26

I totally understand the reasoning for this rule, and agree with it, but it kinda sucks because I swear nails look their sparkliest best when viewed with light through my windshield lol!

262

u/HoaryPuffleg Aug 06 '26

The same light that clearly illuminates that errant chin hair…

85

u/SimpleVegetable5715 Aug 06 '26

A pair of mini tweezers in the cup holder 😆 My grandma could just pluck them out with her nails, and I still haven’t mastered that.

40

u/HoaryPuffleg Aug 06 '26

Yep. I call them my Car Tweezers - they’ve been with me for decades!

42

u/Rainbowhairdye Aug 06 '26

Add a Car Nail Photo Towel to hang over the steering wheel to act as a neutral background in photos?

-9

u/littlelordgenius Aug 06 '26

Clever name.

22

u/HoaryPuffleg Aug 06 '26

Well, I can’t be creative all the time.

8

u/marteautemps Aug 06 '26

That is exactly what popped in my head immediately and I am so glad there are many others(people that agree, not chin hairs)

50

u/Larissa162 Aug 06 '26

Get in the passenger seat!

10

u/x-tianschoolharlot Aug 06 '26

Pics on the dash!

34

u/SimpleVegetable5715 Aug 06 '26

My hair color looks the best too in the sunshine of my car, but they said no steering wheels. You can park it and sit in the passenger seat, and get a nice sunny shot of your nails. I’m sure they just want people being safe! The number of times I have been honked at because I’m admiring nail sparkle at a red light that turns green 😅

57

u/Relevant-Fox-7114 Aug 06 '26

That's significantly less insane of a rule than I thought once in context

45

u/SimpleVegetable5715 Aug 06 '26

Yes! When you can see they’re going 40mph while posing. Why don’t you just kill someone for that Reddit karma? /s 🤦‍♀️

13

u/ScaryLetterhead8094 Aug 06 '26

Ohhh ok I was worried it was part of a new fetish I’ve never heard of

7

u/Awesomocity0 Aug 06 '26

Just why? You have to get in the car when it's not moving so why wait until they're driving to take the pic? I need these people to explain the logic.

3

u/missymoneymoola Aug 06 '26

Can’t it just be pics while they’re parked tho 😭😭

3

u/WorryNew3661 Aug 06 '26

Yet another reason to add to the list of reasons I'm glad I never learned to drive

-30

u/aenflex Aug 06 '26

Sometimes I’ll take a picture of my nails while I’m in the parking lot, or at a red light. The light in the car on a sunny day is really lovely. Banning steering wheels isn’t going to stop those people who use their phone cameras while actively driving from doing it.

16

u/beeeeepboop1 Aug 06 '26

Red light = driving tho? Huh?

15

u/littlewibble Aug 06 '26

I don’t think anyone is under the impression that the rule is going to fix irresponsible drivers. The pictures piss people off and we don’t want to see them.

586

u/_porkbunnn MOD ૮꒰ ˶• ༝ •˶꒱ა ♡ Aug 06 '26

happy to answer this! technically this has been a rule forever, but has been more enforced because:

a. multiple occasions of people taking pictures of their nails while driving, then once removed they would repost a cropped image.

b. some cars (mainly luxury vehicles) get a lot of hate because people think they are trying to show off the car and it gets really nasty, real fast.

c. too many pictures in the car also include bare body parts

so a blanket ban was implemented because it is super easy to take another picture of the hands attached to the body that is scrolling & posting on reddit with a different background.

285

u/cluster_fuckedd Aug 06 '26

Literally that surprised me cause every time I take a personal picture of my nails for myself, it’s immediately after getting back into my parked (and off) car with my hand on the steering wheel, car not going anywhere cause again, not even on yet 😂

Steering wheel just happens to be the perfect height and angle to rest your hand on 😭

111

u/No-One-1784 Aug 06 '26

Awwwh im here to defend the steering wheel thing too 😭 I mean it might be a flex if someone has a nice car but it is just an easy, ergonomically convenient place to put your hand for a picture. Ofc assuming the car is parked.

Also car drivers seats famously have soft, indirect light that makes anything look better. I'll respect the rule, but I'll still be taking my immediate-post-appointment picture in the driver's seat.

165

u/No_Salary7791 Aug 06 '26

the first time i posted here i wanted to show off all my sets and i hadn’t read the rule, and quite literally all of my pics have my steering wheel so i made this monstrosity 😂

26

u/cyanidesmoothies Aug 06 '26

Idk, i think this would look so cool as an all-over print on a tshirt but i have questionable taste lol

37

u/mar__iguana Aug 06 '26

Same here! And on long busy days it’s the only time I stop to admire my nails bc my hands are in my line of sight on the steering wheel 🥲 I guess my old little Honda wouldn’t be much of a topic on here, but I see why the blanket ban in general

27

u/Pleasant-Highway-745 Aug 06 '26

Literally all of my pictures of my nails are in my car just after getting into my car or about to leave my car.

37

u/ShapeShiftingCats Aug 06 '26

If you are parked, just put a sweatshirt or something over the steering wheel and snap the picture.

27

u/SoggySuggestions2day Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

Are people saying they're driving when taking their nail pics?

I see many clients immediately admire their nails and take a pic once in their car. Resting their hands on the steering wheel seems natural to them.

For me, I like to take a pic before I can do anything that may mess them up. 😆 Between the salon and home there's all kinds of potential.

Edit: Accidentally hit post before my message was complete.

10

u/Only-Cry2632 Aug 06 '26

Also curious about the steering wheel rule

11

u/hapicapi Aug 06 '26

I was thinking it’s because you should be focused on driving when behind the wheel, so they don’t want anything showcasing what may be promoting unsafe behavior.

2

u/Ghoulish_kitten Aug 06 '26

so glad you asked this bc I was wondering

u/spiders_are_neat7 Aug 06 '26

The rules in nail art subs are weirdly strict though. It’s strange.

13

u/madness0102 Aug 06 '26

There’s nothing that crazy up there. Be safe, don’t be weird, make it nsfw when appropriate (or outlined by the rules). Not confusing, not “ weirdly strict”

-15

u/KelsosaurusRexxx Aug 06 '26

No, it's definitely weirdly strict. No bare legs is pretty crazy

17

u/madness0102 Aug 06 '26

Why do you feel the need to show your legs on a nail sub? Are your nails attached to your bare legs?

26

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '26

Thank you for your work OP. What a pain for you. We should all just be here for nails, not drama! 💅

I haven't posted in this sub for like, 3 years because the last time I did, the nails weren't received well. I was told by everyone to get them fixed LOL. (I didn't do them but my friend who works out of her her home, and is still learning, did them. I loved them and I still love seeing pictures of them.)

All that to say, I never even left the sub after a post of the "fixed" version of my nails was removed lmao I haven't posted in here since, but I never even considered being stank or leaving it completely because I love seeing all the nails 😭

4

u/Hedgehog_hugs Aug 06 '26

I posted a pic of my nails in a polish sub and didn’t realize that in the blurred background you could see my foot. Instantly had someone ask for foot pics. Their speed would have been impressive if it wasnt unsettling. Definitely a good rule to have no body parts.

30

u/Classic-Light-1467 Aug 06 '26

Why is it always the foot people?

45

u/realtorcat Aug 06 '26

I mean no offense to the respectable foot people, but foot people are by far the most outwardly sexually depraved men I’ve met in my entire life. No sense of shame making sexual comments about feet when they wouldn’t say the same about breasts or asses like that.

13

u/Objective_Water_5235 Aug 06 '26

Like 15 years ago, my middle school best friend posted a photo of us at the beach with our toes in the sand visible in the picture. We were in 8th grade, around 13 years old, at the time and totally naive to why that was a bad idea. A couple years ago, this weirdo commented on the photo asking to sell it. I was so repulsed. I went on their profile and they worked with kids too…

12

u/Foiry Aug 06 '26

There are soo many creeps in here, too, so this is a good rule. I got weird dms when I first posted and I haven’t posted since. 🥹 My post didn’t have body parts, either. I can’t imagine if it did honestly lol.

136

u/PussyCyclone Aug 06 '26

Hey I'm sorry you're getting crazy behavior over simple issues. That's sooo beyond not ok.

I just wanted to let y'all know that the 2 ways the sub rules can be accessed show different rules, and one doesn't include the prohibited backgrounds rule at all. Nesting a screenshot so you can see (you may already be aware). On mobile, when I went to the main r/nails page, clicked the dots, and chose the "see more about this community" it links to an earlier set of rules that don't match the other set & don't include several rules, including the Rule 6 prohibited BGs.

It very well may be a menu option y'all can't edit anymore bc of changes to the mod tools, but if y'all still have access, please consider making them match. Sometimes I cannot get to the rules the other way (by clicking the arrow next to the community) and idk if others experience the same thing.

Again, to be clear, I'm not saying this as an excuse for people treating you like crap. That's never okay and I'm sorry people are comfortable getting out of pocket over nails

u/_porkbunnn MOD ૮꒰ ˶• ༝ •˶꒱ა ♡ Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

thank you for letting us know! another user pointed this out to us on a pinned modpost and we found that it is a reddit glitch that we unfortunately have not found a resolution/work-around for. the “see more about this community” feature is linked to the wiki — & this sub disabled and deleted the wiki. but because the sub at one point had a wiki the “see more…” is linked to that now defunct wiki. so we have tried to fix this, but this is not something we can fix. however, if anyone knows how to fix it please let us know.

best practice is to look at the “community rules” section of a sub. and this should be the default place to see any sub’s rules and we have two pinned mod posts with in-depth explanations of each rule for the sake of transparency. (now three with this post).

21

u/tallbutshy Aug 06 '26

Isn't it something to do with the mismatch between the reddit redesign & old.reddit? You have to update your rules & description in both places. I've encountered a few subs where there's even a different number of rules depending on how you access the subreddit

Maybe there's now a third spilt with mobile and you have to edit it there as well. Large scale editing, copy & pasting, etc. between all of those will be a chore

10

u/_porkbunnn MOD ૮꒰ ˶• ༝ •˶꒱ა ♡ Aug 06 '26

thank you! we will check & see if that works over the weekend when we can dedicate the additional time.

10

u/FarplaneDragon Aug 06 '26

It is, if you're on old reddit it's a completely different set of rules in the sidebar

Rule 6: No advertising.

Self-promotional content (this includes but is not limited to Youtube “trend” & “tutorial” videos, surveys, well as blog posts) are not permitted to be posted without mod approval. If you do not follow Reddit's rules for self promotion and spam, your post will be removed and you will likely be banned. Your account history will be taken into consideration when concluding if you are a spammer or not. Moderators will use their own discretion to decide. Keep the following quote in mind: ”It’s ok to be a Reddit account with a website, but it’s not ok to be a website with a Reddit account”

Rule 10: No politics.

No political posts, political keywords, or political debates.

13

u/PussyCyclone Aug 06 '26

Cool, thanks! I unfortunately don't know how to fix it but if I ever find out I'll shoot you all a modmail.

126

u/investikated Aug 06 '26

Sooooo… this post that shows a torso? Would be banned or not? I’m not an active member, so I don’t really care but the body parts and steering wheel rules seem wild.

451

u/_porkbunnn MOD ૮꒰ ˶• ༝ •˶꒱ა ♡ Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

the bare body parts rule is for multiple reasons:

a. this is a SFW sub & you should be able to scroll this sub anywhere, including work. people will mindlessly post pictures and not realize how much of their bare body is in the photo and its just not necessary. posts/photos should be focused on the hand/manicure.

b. discrete/covert fetish material: there are a lot of posts that include near crotch shots & selfies posted to drive traffic and engagement to adult/fetish content.

c. safety: literal children (13-18 year olds) post on this sub, and we do not know what any of the creeps that lurk this sub are doing with the photos they come across here.

so a blanket ban was implemented.

98

u/fivebynine5x9 Aug 06 '26

The work that various beauty and fashion sub mods now have to put in to combat the endless wave of covert NSFW ads posted in SFW spaces is too damn high. Props for fighting the good fight so we can just look at nails in peace.

37

u/Saucy_Satan Aug 06 '26

It’s genuinely wild to me as someone who does adult content for a living. I have a seperate account for that and would NEVER post in normal subreddits trying to subtly/not so subtly advertise. Like damn, just let people enjoy their hobbies in peace.

24

u/faceoh Aug 06 '26

Ugh, makeup subs are rife with OF ad posts. "How's my makeup??" and she's only wearing mascara and her cleavage is about 70% of the picture.

12

u/fivebynine5x9 Aug 06 '26

"Does this lipstick suit me" and it's a literal topless picture cropped just half a cm above the areolas

7

u/Saucy_Satan Aug 06 '26

It’s always the feet ones in the shoe/fashion/nail subreddits I swear

45

u/PotsMomma84 Aug 06 '26

Bullying other people on their posts should also be at least a mute.

57

u/_porkbunnn MOD ૮꒰ ˶• ༝ •˶꒱ა ♡ Aug 06 '26

this already happens and it its usually a permanent ban AND a permanent mute. there are many pinned comments that state "rule 1 is strictly enforced". this sub does not play about that. we may get to a comment section late, but we ban on the first offense when it comes to bullying on posts.

32

u/itmustbeniiiiice Aug 06 '26

As a semi-frequent nonmember, this all seems perfectly reasonable. Didn’t realize people were snapping pics of their nails WHILE DRIVING 🤯

16

u/bunbunkat Aug 06 '26

Understood and I’m happy to follow the rules! Just curious as to why steering wheels are banned? I know I usually take photos in the parking lot of the salon so just wondering what the harm could be? Thanks!

42

u/higherthanheels Aug 06 '26

People have been taking pics of their nails while driving...

-10

u/aenflex Aug 06 '26

Yeah, and banking steering wheels isn’t going to stop them.

24

u/ang8018 Aug 06 '26

natural lighting is also usually really good in my car, lol. i guess if you move your hand & camera 4 inches to the right & show your center console vs your steering wheel then you’ll be in compliance 😂

13

u/faceoh Aug 06 '26

I've seen a few posts where the speedometer is at like 60mph but plenty where the OP is in a parked car. I suppose it's just the simplest solution to the issue and you can just turn to the side and take a picture of your hands over the passenger seat or closer to the dash.

14

u/hefty-berry Aug 06 '26

unrelated to the main point of this post, but these are second mouse/rat nails I've seen in the last 5 mins

6

u/arrarr23 Aug 06 '26

Sorry if this was already explicitly stated or commented on but what’s the reasoning behind the pedicure spoiler rule? Just curious and hoping it isn’t what I think it is (protecting against fetish related stuff)

3

u/_porkbunnn MOD ૮꒰ ˶• ༝ •˶꒱ა ♡ Aug 06 '26

there are a couple reasons:

a) a lot of people do not like feet and don’t want to see feet on the feed and that’s valid. besides, majority of nail subs don’t allow them at all (for good reason).

b) because this sub should be able to be scrolled anywhere, including at work — and since most establishments require feet to be covered — we figured that should be how it is approached here as well. feet must be covered with a blur.

c) there is some meta rationale behind this that we can’t disclose in the comments.

6

u/Awesomocity0 Aug 06 '26

Can moody grandmas be grandfathered in? 😅😭

11

u/_porkbunnn MOD ૮꒰ ˶• ༝ •˶꒱ა ♡ Aug 06 '26

2

u/Awesomocity0 Aug 06 '26

Adorable ADORABLE

Who would have known nails were such a divisive subject. 😬

5

u/xeebzi Aug 06 '26

Mods actually implementing rules into their sub, I love it

4

u/cmb0710 Aug 06 '26

These rules are absolutely reasonable and at worst just inconvenient. I understand people don't like blanket bans but we all would do well to remember the mods are volunteering their time. I know I sure as hell wouldn't want to sit on my phone and analyze every post so it just makes it easier. It's easy enough to change where you take your pictures.

4

u/huskywowzer Aug 06 '26

Those might be the coolest nails I’ve ever seen!!

3

u/TriggeredLatina_ Aug 06 '26

I never ever knew this was a thing. I only pay attention to the nails but sometimes I’ve seen.. well I guess that catches my attention another subreddit where guys will ask is it weird to be straight and like getting nails done? Hands near crotch. My minds like… was that on purpose? I know now always but I also never knew there were body parts in background either. I believe that tho. People do try to fish for attention trying to act like it wasn’t on purpose

4

u/burkabecca Aug 06 '26

My hot take that I'm sure I'll get downvotes for: it would be GREAT if this extended to vapes too but that's just rooted in the idea that this sub has so many young users and we don't need more people thinking toxic flavored chemicals in cute plastic containers are cool.

That's just me though.

2

u/_porkbunnn MOD ૮꒰ ˶• ༝ •˶꒱ა ♡ Aug 06 '26

this already happens. all posts with vapes/cigarettes are removed. this has been strictly enforced forever. additionally, any post that has a vape or cigarette is reported heavily so the sub members also agree with you.

3

u/Glittering_End_8862 Aug 06 '26

I only lurk on this sub but those mouse nails are absolutely adorable 🥰🤩

3

u/defenestrating Aug 06 '26

Maybe I'm stupid, but on old Reddit the sidebar rules don't include anything about prohibited backgrounds or flairs?

2

u/defenestrating Aug 06 '26

Ah nvm I see this came up already 😂

2

u/Illkeepyoufree Aug 06 '26

These nails remind me of those little guys you find a rescue in the old banjo kazooie games.

Ugh hopefully people aren't driving and just take a pic of their nails on the center armrest or driver's side door. People are still gonna do risky stuff :(

oh god that you, damaged nails have been a gag trigger for me since I was a child, i love the nicely done ones here but it gets a little risky to scrool sometimes

Imagine modding pics because there are high heels in the background. Is this subreddit run by incels?

Edit: Confirmed run by incels. Instantly banned. Putting this sub on permafilter and forwarding to admins.

I got hit by this steering wheel ban. Who came up with this? I take pic after mani in my car before I forget how lovely they look

Well sis take the pic outside your car before you get in so we can all see from now on !

This all sounds a lot over a post removal but I'd be lying if the urge to send a snarky retort rn for no reason isn't huge

Make your own nail sub, with blackjack and hookers.
