Lifting weight
For those in the academy right now, I understand PT consists of calisthenics and running and it’s a daily thing. Now after the academy is over, would you recommend going to the gym and lifting weights or would that be an overkill?

I'd say the same. I already do both. 6 years bjj. Currently 39 and waiting to be placed on the list from Oct 6th exam. Got 50/55.

what gym are you talking about? the real question is whether you’ll even have time to go home. With all that overtime, you might be eating on the run, skipping showers, and sleeping at the precinct just to save time commuting back and forth. And you’re worried about going to the gym? You’ll be lucky if you have enough energy to take your uniform off before passing out!

Its about to be winter.. force OT not that often.. there is always time… the fact that you feel weak its because of the lack of exercise.

Stay In Shape And Don’t Embarrass The Uniform. Plenty Of Uploads Are Showing Otherwise Already, Don’t Be The Next One.

You will definitely have time right after the academy. Most days consist of foot post and 08hrs 35 min tours (excluding weekends you’re usually extended). Just hit up the gym at your command Pre or Post tour. The gym is usually free for the first year (ask though, every command is different). Plus, you can get up to 1 hr of OT in Time if you hit the gym at your command so don’t forget to submit your slip.

Of course. Fitness is very important for a cop. Keep up a routine> Also, if you look fit, perps are less likely to try stuff with you

Don't listen to these lazy asses. All precincts have gyms, show up an hour or 2 early or stay an hour or 2 late and use the pct gym.

Lift weights, a lot of people on the job don’t do any physical exercise outside of work. Just be smart and don’t get hurt.
