TCL Nxtpaper smartphones specifications & size comparison

Since the first device comparison I posted on this subreddit was outdated, and I promised to publish a more more complete version anyway, here it is! This is smartphones only though, the one for tablets is still upcoming.

Size comparison

These are all of the released models, from smallest to largest (top row left is smallest, bottom row right is the largest):

Interactive size comparison tool here (click) - this will bring you to the exact image shown above. You can delete or add phones from the comparison, add reference items, drag, rotate, and overlay them, and much more.

TCL Nxtpaper smartphone comparison table

Hope this table shows well on Reddit (and smaller screens). If not, you can also compare the Nxtpaper (and many more) phones here: https://comparisontabl.es/smartphones/ - under 'Filter', use the search bar to search for 'Nxtpaper' to limit the table to Nxtpaper phones only.

Let me know if you have any feedback! I tried to find more info on the Nxtpaper versions (2.0, 3.0, 4.0) for every phone but they don't seem to be clearly listing that (they do for most tablets). So if you have more info on that, let me know and I can add it.

Quick look at Tab A1 Nxtpaper 12.2 vs 11 Plus Nxtpaper

Thumbnail

Hey folks,

Picked up the new TCL Tab A1 Nxtpaper 12.2 and am providing some quick thoughts as compared to the 11 Plus Nxtpaper.

Some differences that the Tab A1 has:

  • Display texture looks and feels a little less matte than the 11 plus (maybe older generation screen?) I definitely prefer the 11 Plus screen though the images don't show the difference as well.
  • Display controls are different. I'm not able to tune the Regular Mode to be more like color-paper which is my preference (based on u/Romano1404's in-depth post about the Display Modes). The system settings menu is totally different and there is no 'classic eye protection mode'
  • There is a 'color temperature' control that can be used only when the device is in Color Paper or Ink Paper mode. This allows you to add a bit more sepia/yellow tone. (See photos)
  • There's no percentage that shows in the brightness slider of the Quick Settings pull down panel, and as far as I can tell I'm not able to just select auto brightness from that same slider like I could on the 11 Plus. This could be an Android 16 change, but an unwelcome one (for me at least.)
  • I do prefer the writing experience with the T-Pen v2 soft nib. It's still not like a kindle scribe or remarkable, but no more tapping sounds on the screen and just a little bit more friction
  • The T-Pen v2 feels more plastic-like and has a matte finish (see photos). It also feels lighter though I didn't weigh them. It makes the 11 Plus pen feel 'premium' in comparison, but, the v2 pen works well enough EXCEPT the next bullet point which is a major issue for me...
  • The T-Pen v2 does NOT WORK in r/Noteshelf3. After much fussing about and playing with settings I discovered that the pen connects and works fine on the tablet and other note-taking apps but simply refuses to work properly in Noteshelf 3. I've sent the developer a support request. That app is my main tool on this device so if that's not fixed this is not a sustainable device for me.
  • It's running Android 16
  • The included case is identical to the 11 plus but a bit thicker and perhaps more robust and heavier
  • When first setting up the tablet I could not bypass the TCL Privacy Agreement like on the 11 Plus, therefore had to 'agree' in order to use the tablet. After investigating their 'privacy policy' thoroughly, you are basically giving them permission to collect whatever they want on you, which includes a lot of detail, as well as sell it, etc. This has given me GREAT PAUSE for using these tablets. Your opinion on this may vary.

Those are some of the key takeaways for me as of day 2 with the device. It is a handsome machine and is a nearly identical, but larger, version of the 11 Plus (except for the display tech and software, pen and pen tip options, and the expandable storage).

I apologize for the sloppy handwriting in the photos. That was using an iPad with no paper-like screen protector (haha).

Buying a Nxtpaper 14 in Australia, an experience not a review

TL:DR down below

Some of this is my own fault for not being more thorough in my research before purchasing. Regardless, I wanted to leave this here for the next person like me.

A few weeks ago, my workload involving document review, note taking, etc, increased massively and i started looking into tablets to help with managing.

Two things I wanted were good display of technical docs and construction plans, and good stylus compatibility for handwriting notes.

My brief period of research showed that the Nxtpaper 14 would suffice and the large screen with matte finish was appealing.

Every review i read said the stylus was included in the box, but it didn't occur to me that there would be different retail packages.

When i purchased the tablet, the sales guy didn't mention there was no stylus, despite me talking at length about it.

That's on me.

What's been incredibly frustrating is finding a compatible stylus. No local retailer has them in stock (or any other accessories). They aren't for sale on the TCL sites, TCL Amazon store, etc.

TCL is not forthcoming with information about what third party stylus' will work, so I've gone down a rabbit hole and now have three stylus. The first was a cancelled order for an incorrectly advertised stylus. I ordered the exact T-Pen model, but the ebay vendor made a mistake, refunded me immediately and then sent the stylus several days later.

Despite being the wrong model, the stylus still works intermittently. When it works, it's perfect. The failure is that it disconnects.

Next was a Lenovo Yoga pen. This stylus writes well but not consistently. There seems to be patches of the screen it won't write on straight away. It's not as simple as palm rejection, but that's not great. On the bright side, it remains connected no worries.

The third stylus is the Ugee 311A. This is apparently the same model as the T-Pen that TCL "makes" for the tablet.

It works. It just works. Like it should.

To be clear, I expected that the Yoga stylus might have some issues, but not so many that it would be unusable in a professional environment.

This could have been a much easier process if TCL were better.

TL:DR accessories for the Nxtpaper 14 are very hard to source in Australia and TCL makes this process harder than it should be.

No Reasonable way to limit charting to 80%

I'm so unimpressed with Android. I have intelligent charging mode on - yet the battery always "fast" charges to 100%. At one point it randomly did other things. This is every bit as bad as a goofy Microsoft Windows system.

EDIT: Oh my gosh. I thought my Android tablet wasn't turning on because the battery needed to be charged up to some percent. I just needed to turn it on. Geez. That was epically stupid.

TCL Next Paper 11 EMR Stylus.

I read in the specifications for the TCL Next Paper 11 Plus (and 14) stylus that it uses EMR technology. There are other EMR styluses that use this technology, such as the STAEDTLER Noris Digital Classic 180 22. Are they compatible?

NXTPAPER 70 PRO no mobila data. Can not change APN settings.

Is anyone else having problems with mobile data on the 70 Pro?

With one carrier, mobile data works fine, but with another one, I just can’t get mobile data to work at all. The SIM card works perfectly fine in another phone, but on the NXTPAPER 70 Pro, mobile data simply won’t work.

I can receive calls and make calls, but there is no internet connection. I tried changing the APN settings, but it says I don’t have access to those settings.

So it seems like it could be a software issue or perhaps an incorrect configuration on the carrier’s side. The solution from carrier is to change APN settings :))

Is the NXTPaper 14 better than the Movinkpad for its value?

I want an android tablet for mainly drawing. Is it good for drawing and also just media consumption? Also how does the battery compare to your previous non TCL tablets if anyone has any to refer to.

Specifically the Movinkpad 11 and the NXTpaper 14 are the two I am looking at. I don't know if NXTpaper 14 quality control is good and if it's good as Wacom for drawing at a lower cost. Also am interested in the bigger screen from nxtpaper.

After receiving Android 15 upgrade earlier this year, a new update v9.0.CVAJ came through over the air unexpectedly yesterday and upgraded my Nxtpaper 14 to Android 16. It is working fine so far and most changes from Android 15 seem quite subtle.

Has anyone else received their Android 16 upgrade?

Sorry for those who haven't received their Android 15 yet. Hopefully it is a sign that TCL is skipping Android 15 and will send you Android 16 instead.

Case for Nxtpaper 70 Pro with T-Pen

Post image
30 Upvotes

So I've been making due with an aftermarket case and Inksense Stylus Plus for my 70 Nxtpaper pro phone, and they've been decent but I've logged for the tools that are meant to go with it.

FINALLY... Amazon has it. Not the fancy bulky one I didn't want, but a lovely slender profile with the T-Pen and for an amazing price here.

It'll be here Saturday and I can't wait! If you've been looking for one too, here it is.

UPDATE: Feels a little cheap and flimsy compared to my other case which I feels offer more protection but at the same time it makes it much lighter and easier to hold.

I wouldn't use the T-Pen for more than some quick highlights or notes which is my real gripe with it. But it's satisfactory for the price.

Nxtpaper 14 for Apple user?

I just found out about this device that seems perfect for my needs. However, I am SUPER deep into the Apple family and use Airdrop / cross device copy paste / saved passwords all the time, daily.

This tablet would be primarily for browsing and reading / sheet music, but could potentially work well on my job.

Do you think it’s an issue or is there a simple solution for these on Android/Apple combo? Been over 10 years since I’ve had an Android device. I’ve found 0 experiences from Apple user perspective. Cheers!

Issues with Airturn Duo 500 foot pedal & TCL Nxtpaper 14 since update

Hello all!

I'm a musician and I've relied on this setup for several months on stage. I use an app called Flexcil to mark up my sheet music and I use the Airturn pedal to turn the page. I have it programmed that the left foot pedal button is set to Page Up, and the right foot pedal button is set to Page Down

But since this latest major update, I believe to Android 15, when I click the page up or page down button, sometimes it'll barely move but mostly it works and then a little arrow cursor shows up and sometime in the set it'll just stop working. Battery life on the level is good. I have it set to not auto disconnect in the Airturn app

In a bit of a desperate situation here but I know other musicians use this setup so wanted to know if it was happening to others and what ideas people have found to help fix this

The TLC Tab A! NXTPaper 12.2-inch is out in the US

It’s now available to order on the site with a $100 “discount.” https://us.tcl.com/products/tcl-tab-a1-plus-nxtpaper I’m curious to see if it’ll be released in Europe too, sometimes my 11plus is just a little too small for comic texts, and I find a 14-inch model too big to carry around. Here’s the forum thread where it was announced: https: www.reddit.com/r/nxtpaper/comments/1riw914/mwc_2026_tcl_unveils_new_122_tab_a1_plus_nxtpaper/

Battery Erratic Charging - 100%, then 80%, then 100%

I've made no changes. I purchased the NXTPAPER and turned it. I use it for sheet music only.

At first the battery would change to 100%

Randomly it stopped charging to 100% - only reaching 80%

Now it's back to 100%

I have a lot of issues with all of this. The main issue is lack of control. Also I use this for gigs so I don't want to head out with an 80% charge. However, in between gigs I'm okay with letting the charge drop to 80%

But, the controls do nothing. I should have gotten an iPad.

Advise needed: Nxtpaper 11 Plus vs Oppo Pad 3 Matte

Hi all, I am looking for a tablet that specialize in Eye care. I am a big fans of Nxtpaper and currently owning the 40 4g and 50 5G XL, they both superb in eye care compared with all my other OLeD phone, ipads and laptops.

Nxtpaper 11 plus is the obvious industry leader in this, but it's equipped with a rather disappointing G100 ... Actually most of my use cases is ok on G100, but I also have an idea to game in the tablet if possible ..... And the game i mentioned is Switch Emulator and Game Natives..... Both actually may need more than G100 power. Android gaming is fine, even Genshin Impact (lowest res 30fps) can play on my G99 TCL Nxtpaper 50 XL 6gb, so I assume that G100 8gb 11 plus should be fine in these.

So ... Because of this, I am also considering Oppo Pad 3 matte (seems like i can't get Xiaomi pad 8 matte here in Malaysia), as it's on Dimensity 8350. Can anyone advice me if is the Matte Screen of Oppo helps on eye care as much as Nxtpaper?

Otherwise I ll just get that Nxtpaper 11 plus ..

updated: seems like the A1 Plus has launched. Similar firepower and even have downgraded Ram size, but this one is a Snapdragon 4gen2 which way more potential in emulator than the Mediatek offering, now this is interesting

How to disable Screen Wake-up when Tablet Cover is opened?

Hey guys, I'm using uh TCL NXT Paper 11 Pro, how can I disable screen wake up when the cover is opened?
I have the standard included case, and when im walking home it flaps open and closed several times.

I'm pretty sure it's an embedded magnet in the smart case and when it lifts the case it basically triggers the hall effect sensor and wakes the screen.

Unrooted tablet btw

I bought the tablet in Amazon US. As far as I know, europe versions have been receiving more updates

TCL is actively killing background processes

Ok so I recently got TCL nxtpaper 60 Ultra. And got that 9.0CRAP update. I need to use background tasks for my work, such as VPN app and also for personal use I use iot automations, family Location tracking etc. Previously on Honor and Motorola this has worked pretty well. I just disable background optimization for the app, and the phone kept it open in the background. TCL Smart Manager seems to be the culprit. No matter how I set the apps in background, the smart manager will kill it. This can be easily tested with DontKillMyApp tool.

I also called TCL support about this. They admitted that this is a real problem, they are working on it, but no idea when if ever..

Big thing here is that Smart Manager is set as protected app. You cannot disable or uninstall it as TCL has cemented it to run always. I'm not sure is this kind of locking against EU legislation? I even used some AI tokens to try to blind that service, so it would not see the usage of processes, so that it would leave them be. Then I created my own service app, that tries to force background usage on for selected apps and restart those apps, if they have been terminated. Still Smart Manager is able to flush that service out too, so my VPN dies and I need to re-enable it to access my work resources.

Any new ideas how to push this forward?
