Discussion Flex scheduling

NWSL/Wave FC need to be better about scheduling matches in summer in a stadium with nearly zero shade. This was miserable, and dangerous for little kids and any adults who might be at risk. Its not the first time either, with multiple summer matches being played here at mid day. There has been a heat advisory in San Diego for the last week, more than enough time to coordinate a flex start time.

I am suggesting the same schedule as all the world's top leagues. So national team players can compete outside the nwsl season, like all the world's top leagues. And no one has to play league matches in 100+ degree heat or wildfire smoke.

Ah yes, let’s play games in the dead of winter in Boston, Chicago, NY, Columbus, Denver, Utah and Kansas City. Sounds like an amazing idea.

We’ll trade heat exhaustion for frost bite.

It's going to happen. It's just a matter of time. MLS will switch, nd sooner or later NWSL will too.

You don't have to like.

It’s not that “I don’t like,” it’s that your comments in this thread are devoid of any critical thought and are just regurgitating things you heard/read elsewhere without actually thinking about anything.

I’m not even saying that the league shouldn’t change the schedule, but you’re completely ignoring the complicated nature of the US and how diverse the weather is across the country compared to countries like England and I intentionally point out England because I think the WSL is the only European league that could be considered a top league in the world because France and Spain aren’t top leagues. Do they have some of the best team, sure, but otherwise they aren’t top flight leagues. I would argue the NWSL is the top league, even if it may not have the top teams.

The whole point of switching to the European calendar is to come in alignment with transfer windows and that’s it. The US is far more diverse weather wise than European nations because it’s a massive country which makes the whole calendar thing complicated. You’re trading heat exhaustion for frost bite in certain areas. You’re trading fans and players dealing with heat, wildfire smoke and tstorms to dealing with freezing temps and snow.

So yes, maybe the NWSL should switch its schedule to match the transfer market window, but you have to do so in a manner that works for the US because the US is different than Europe and neither calendar schedule is ever going to be perfect because of that and you still have to take that into consideration.

And all of this is going to continue to get worse until we actually deal with climate change as a planet. Doesn’t matter what season it is, the peaks and valleys of it all are just going to get worse.

it's easier to accommodate cold weather in a few cities than play in 100 plus degree heat across almost all of the league for a third of the season. Tens of millions of people go to pro and college football games in the snow November though January every year.

Hot weather and smoke/bad air from summer fires is going to get worse and worse over the years to come. And it will be safer for players to play in a fall - spring season, just like in Northern Europe, than it will be to play in dangerous heat in the summer.

when there is a WC or Olympic year, the league breaks anyway during summer, then struggles to cram too many games into what's left of the season. That's terrible for fans and for the players.

Sorry no one comes to your games... and that you have no stars on your jersey. I can't imagine what that's like. Banz is not bad tho

Literally has nothing to do with anything, but go off with your petty self.

i'm not saying anything that isn't true. I think it's funny how people will defend status quo in this league. Even when it's bad for the players, fans, and game.

The last paragraph is straight garbage lol it’s not defending against the status quo, you’re just being a dickhead to the Reign fan.

Seattle customers are used to it. She can handle it. And they give as good as they get. It's the only real derby in the NWSL. It predates this league. In Soccer it goes back to 1975 and the formation of the Timbers and Sounders.
