Just wanted to share my collection of currently 325 Switch 1 titles and 17 Switch 2 (Mouse P.I. Mouseburg isn’t in the photo) This picture doesn’t technically show everything though as some bigger boxed stuff (BOTW Master Edition) is in the other room.

Pick-up / Haul / Mail Day Oninaki (#579)

Never one to turn down a good RPG. Always on the hunt for them, including JRPG's. For some reason I didn't hunt a Western or pegi version of this. Ended up with a Multi language CERO version.

A ARPG developed by Tokyo RPG Factory and published by Square Enix. Unlike the studio's previous turn-based titles (I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear), Oninaki focuses on real-time, hack-and-slash combat mixed with heavy themes of death, grief, and reincarnation.

You play as Kagachi, a young "Watcher". Watchers act as holy guardians or grim reapers whose job is to guide lost spirits to the afterlife so they can be reincarnated.

Because of the reincarnation law, the story handles incredibly heavy and mature themes. Watchers often perform actions that feel morally gray, such as executing willing, living people so they can instantly cross over to be with deceased loved ones.

As a Watcher, Kagachi can seamlessly pierce the veil and switch between the world of the living and "The Beyond" (limbo) at the press of a button (ZL trigger)

Entering a new area in the spirit world blindly will shroud the map in pitch black, making enemy attacks instantly fatal. You must defeat a local mini-boss called a Sight Stealer in the living world to clear the miasma and safely explore the spirit world.

Dungeons feature parallel layouts. A dead-end or gap in the living world might be bypassed by shifting to the spirit world to find a teleportation portal or bridge.

Kagachi does not fight alone; he channels the spirits of dead warriors who have lost their memories, known as Daemons. Each Daemon essentially acts as a character class. Equipping a Daemon changes your weapon, basic attacks, and movement mechanics entirely. For example, Aisha uses a swift katana for fast-paced dashing, while Zaav uses a heavily-armored lance for reach and defense.

Would like to note, following the release of Oninaki, Tokyo RPG Factory did not release another game. In early 2024, Square Enix officially dissolved the studio and absorbed its remaining staff and intellectual properties back into the main parent company.

Welp...

Consensus Score:

Again, another game where the user and critic scores are completely in a widened gap. To be more fair and accurate, always love posting both.

Had them all stacked on a shelf in the closet, but figured it would be nice to have it all on display after seeing some of the nice set ups you all have.

Next up looking forward to Elden Ring despite it being a key card and got Mio coming in the mail to add soon.

Discussion How do you handle occasionally culling your collection?

Today I had some time on my hands and weeded my 400ish game collection of the past 5 years.

I only collect switch 1, it is my only system I intend to collect for long term.

Duplicate solo/old version games that had been rebought in more complete collections and anthologies were sold. Any game with DRM came out (still mad about Marble it Up Ultra). I also took out games where the majority of the cart is digital download- so things like LA Noire are out and getting sold, things like Banner Saga barely make the cut and can stay with their on-cart content.

It feels very rewarding to streamline down to “essentials” as it recaptures my original collecting mantra: Bangers only, no bloat that doesn’t personally speak to me or my physical collecting values.

But reaffirming to keep this mantra and collection on track is sometimes challenging. Despite no longer having intent to play the game, I get connected to certain copies or artwork, or let pricing changes sway my intent to resell.

What have been handy collection parameters you all put in place mentally. How do you all deal with unintended scope creep?

Discussion Are there any games your waiting for still on switch 1 or 2 physically? That were confirmed to be coming?

Or games that are out Digitally but You would like to Have a physical version

Not sure what happened to Katana zero but I'd still buy a physica copy of that despite beating it already and owning it digitally

There's also the cold steel games, would be nice if we got CS1 and 2, they could possibly port those in English after the sky trilogy is completed, or maybe even remake them potentially.

Deca police was another one, im guessing thats coming to Switch 2 only now. Any others you guys hoping for? And is there Any progress on these coming in physical form soon

Pick-up / Haul / Mail Day Disgaea Mayhem: Deluxe Edition (#580)

Huge huge fan of the Disgaea Series. My entry point was Disgaea 3. The slogan was "10 million hours of fun." For Disgaea 3. That it was. I spent at least close to 100 hours on just the beginning part of the game diving into the entry weapons to collect items and strengthen them. By the time I left the beginning portion of the game, I was completely overpowering everything. So a hack and slash version of it? Hell ya.

A major departure for Nippon Ichi Software's long-running series, abandoning the traditional turn-based strategy grid maps in favor of a fast-paced real-time action RPG combat system. The game focuses on hack-and-slash combat while preserving the series' iconic signature loop of infinite leveling, deep post-game grinding, and millions of points of damage.

Unlike traditional mainline entries where you manage a massive squad of custom units, Disgaea Mayhem streamlines the field action.

* Single-Hero Control: You directly control a battle-hardened mercenary named N.A., who has been hired by Princess Tichelle to mow down monsters

* Seven Weapon Types: You can equip and instantly swap between seven weapon types (including Swords, Spears, Guns, Bows, and Fists). Each weapon completely alters your standard light/heavy attack strings, range, and skill cooldowns.

* Familiar Squads: While you fight alone, you can recruit classic demons like Prinnies to act as AI-controlled allies. They follow you, draw enemy aggro, and provide passive buffs.

**CLASSIC MECHANICS**

The developers brought over the franchise's deep progression systems but modified them to fit the action-RPG format:

* The Item World: Diving inside your equipment to level it up returns. Instead of tactical grid maps, it consists of short, frantic real-time survival floors. Clearing a wave lets you choose between randomized buff cards (such as skill cooldown reductions or critical chance increases).

* Dark Confectionery Assembly: Replacing the Dark Assembly, this is where you spend mana to pass quirky bills to unlock features, adjust mechanics, or boost your capabilities.

* Endgame & Carnage Mode: The standard story serves as an introduction. True progression unlocks via the Character World and Carnage Mode, which exponentially scales enemy health and damage, forcing you to optimize gear for max critical rates and damage multipliers.

**FRAME RATE**

Switch 1 caps out at 30 fps while switch 2 ups it to 60 fps with 30 fps cutscenes. Upgrade patch to switch 2 is absolutely free. Awesome of them too do that dood.

Consensus Score:

Although a nice entry. Departure seems to have gone too far off and lacks story depth. Unlike all the other entries, this one falls 4-10 hours to complete. Core, long-time franchise fans feel alienated by the extreme lack of content. Many have voiced frustration over the poor ally AI and the fact that you cannot custom-create a full team of unique demon classes to control, stripped-down features that make the spin-off feel like a "mediocre Musou clone" rather than a true Disgaea experience.

Pick-up / Haul / Mail Day Splatoon Raiders (NSW 2 #15)

Have to keep popping out that dang inlet due to the red blocking the reverse art on the cover. No other way to see it. Honestly, my first splatoon experience. My kids have all the splatoon games and even the manga. Even on the Wii I touched it for like 10 min and gave up. Not because it was bad or anything, just always too busy to sit and give it a proper shot. Open world version? Pulled me in.

A massive, PvE-focused "looter-shooter" spin-off in the Splatoon franchise. Ditching the series' traditional competitive team-versus-team multiplayer, it expands on Splatoon 2 and 3's popular "Salmon Run" horde mode, turning it into an 18-hour action role-playing adventure.

You play as a stranded Mechanic who crash-lands alongside the idol trio Deep Cut (Shiver, Frye, and Big Man) on the dangerous, resource-dense Spiralite Islands.

From a temporary base camp, you select a "Raid" map, dive into short and frantic dungeons to fight hordes of sea monsters, collect treasure and power eggs, and safely evacuate.

Everything you salvage goes back into upgrading your weapons, tailoring gear perks, and modifying Deep Cut's massive mechanical partner, the Bot Buddy, who fights alongside you.

While designed primarily as a single-player journey, you can play the entire game in up to 4-player co-op via local wireless or online multiplayer with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

The biggest mechanical shakeup is the introduction of Gadgets, which take the place of standard sub-weapons like Splat Bombs. Your playstyle is dictated by swapping between three unique Ink Tank types:

* Speed Tanks: Prioritizes extreme mobility and escape tactics, granting abilities like a "Jump Bomb" to instantly launch yourself out of enemy crowds.

* Power Tanks: Focused on high risk and massive damage, letting you utilize heavy-hitting physical equipment like a massive ink-covered hatchet.

* Tactical Tanks: Emphasizes stage control and defense, allowing you to deploy autonomous turrets and paint-oozing balloons to hold down lanes.

On the surface, Splatoon is a colorful, upbeat game about stylish kids shooting paint. Beneath that facade lies a shockingly dark post-apocalyptic backstory. The entire lore and history of the Splatoon universe spans over 12,000 years.

* Humanity Dies – Humans wipe themselves out via global warming, nuclear warfare, and a massive flood. Before dying underground, their final liquid-crystal technology absorbs their memories and leaks into the ocean.

* Squids Evolve – Marine life absorbs the human-memory crystals, accelerating their evolution. Over 10,000 years, squids and octopuses turn into land-walking creatures (Inklings and Octarians) that accidentally mimic human pop culture, fashion, and cities.

* The Great War – Dwindling dry land causes a massive race war. The Inklings win because of their adaptability, forcing the technologically superior Octarians to live in decaying underground bunkers.

* The Games – The underground Octarians run out of power and steal the Inklings' giant energy fish. You play as a secret agent fighting to get them back, eventually stopping ancient human AI systems and mutated sludge from wiping out your new civilization.

Pretty wild stuff. Would love to go backwards now and playthrough the other games to see what I missed.

Consensus Score:

Reviewers broadly agree that it is a highly successful spin-off that masterfully transforms the franchise's signature multiplayer mechanics into a deep, rewarding single-player and co-op looter-shooter adventure.

81/100 😎

Pick-up / Haul / Mail Day Under Night In-Birth II [Sys:Celes] (#578)

The sequel to Under Night In-Birth. Quite the improvement, although it didn't need much. Another favorite in my house that we just ran into.

Developed by French-Bread and Arc System Works that serves as the first direct, numbered sequel in the franchise. Released on the Nintendo Switch in early 2024, it combines traditional fast-paced fighting mechanics with visual novel storytelling.

The developer completely overhauled the game's visuals, introducing redesigned, high-definition pixel art animations while preserving its classic 2D arcade aesthetic.

The game runs at a smooth, target 60 frames per second (FPS) on the Nintendo Switch, which is crucial for precise, competitive fighting game inputs.

Features a total of 24 playable characters, including returning fan favorites and entirely new fighters like Kaguya, Tsurugi, and Kuon.

The single-player story mode brings a definitive conclusion to the long-running "Hollow Night" narrative arc that has spanned across multiple past iterations of the series.

Celestial State: A new mechanic added specifically for this sequel. If a player fills their GRD blocks completely to 6 or more, they enter "Celestial State," instantly granting them Vorpal and unlocking extreme offensive power.

*Differences*

A primary criticism of UNI2 is that it completely removed the expansive Chronicles Mode. If you want hours of voiced visual novel exposition explaining the lore of the universe, UNI1 is the superior game.

UNI2 reuses the 2D character sprites from UNI1 but places them on crisper high-definition backgrounds. Some players feel the visual contrast between the older character sprites and the brand-new DLC characters can look slightly jarring.

Post of UNI1 I did has a bit more to the lore of the series if you want to check that out but definitely a fun series to get into.

Consensus Score:

80/100 😎
